View Full Version : Michael Moore Hates America

This looks like it could be really interesting. They call Michael Moore out on a lot of his selective editing and other BS he spews. Unfortunately, since it presents a view opposite of Michael Moore's and this kid doesn't have the millions of dollars that Moore has to push his film, it will receive ZERO publicity or coverage by the mainstream film industry.

Check out the trailers. My favorite part is when Moore says he's not in any movies that aren't his, and then it lists like 8 movies he's been in that weren't his films.

That actually sounds like it could be pretty funny.
If Moore can't take it, he shouldn't dish it out.

I'd like to see if there's anything they can really call Moore on. The guy called the president and the administration on things they've done that has for lack of better terms, fucked up the American people. Yet those who consider themselves conservative, would rather ignore the fact that the Bush administration is harmful to our country, and they'll bash Moore for what he's doing. So then, what does the movie show? He's been in other movies, wow. And they claim he hates America because he'll tell the truth huh? Typical...

I took the title as more of a joke.
It is, isn't it?
If it is, it's hilarious.
If it's not, it's just sad.

I hope so.
I like what I saw in the trailers, and if it is along those lines, it should stand to be pretty amusing.
That said, people who either bash or love Moore take him and his work WAY too seriously.
this kid doesn't have the millions of dollars that Moore has to push his film, it will receive ZERO publicity or coverage by the mainstream film industry.
And? Moore had to struggle to get his early work financed and picked up by big studios, and finally shown to a lot of people. Why should this guy get a free ride and start right in the big leagues just because he's slapped Moore's name on his work when pretty much every other documentarian has had to pay their dues and work their way out of the filmmaking trenches? You're implying that somebody is obligated to give this guy equal exposure just because he's latching his work onto Michael Moore's status as a media entity.

Yeah, it's a fact because he's a nobody, it's a tiny film, and he's just starting out as a filmmaker. Bringing it up in the first place implies that this is somehow unusual in this case, and that it's "unfair" when compared to the exposure Moore gets.
Of course a film this small isn't going to get equal attention, money or viewers as something Moore makes. It's a completely unecessary point to make because it's a given.

It's actually not a given. I showed this to a couple people in person and they were like "Oh! When's this hitting theaters?!"
It's not gonna hit theaters, it's not gonna compete with Farenheit 9/11. Some people might've thought that, so I was simply getting that issue out of the way. Did you ever hear of the guy from "Supersize Me" before that movie? I didn't, but he still got pretty mainstream coverage. I was simply making it clear that you're not gonna see much from this film outside of this website.

Fair enough.
Perception is a weird thing on the internet. It simply struck me as a very specific way of putting it, as opposed to, "it's a small film, so it probably won't be released around most of you." I'm probably just being more paranoid than usual.
Out of curisoity, have you seen any of Moore's films or TV shows, or read any of his books?
Did you ever hear of the guy from "Supersize Me" before that movie? I didn't, but he still got pretty mainstream coverage.
Very true. But you gotta call a fluke for what it is. How many hundreds of documentaries are made each year that none of us even HEAR about?
Exactly.
Personally, I think "Supersize Me" got attention because it's an "easy" film. It's gimmicky, doesn't really have much to say, and really isn't all that good.

Honestly, I'd suggest watching his first two films "Roger & Me" and "The Big One," his first TV series, "TV Nation," and his first book, "Downsize THIS!"
I'll stand by all of that stuff, because it's from the period when Moore didn't have to "twist" things to get his message across. He also hadn't mutated into the aggressive pundit he is now. Back then, all the guy had to do was turn on his camera and his "targets" incriminated themselves. Now he has to push, prod and attack to get what he wants. Then, he was going after "universal" issues like big companies sending jobs overseas, sweatshops, or joblessness here at home (Not as a result of any specific politicians or political ideaology, but plain ol' coporate greed).
Something happened when he decided to make "Bowling," and you can see it happen during his second TV series, "The Awful Truth." He went from being kind of an "everyguy" to very clearly picking his political "sides" and effectively shedding that about him which made him such an appealing filmmaker. He became a pundit, and there's never been such a thing as a good, or even useful, pundit.
I have high hopes for his next film, "Sicko," which is going to be about the health care industry. It sounds like he's getting back to his roots, and personally, it's not a moment too soon.

The way the guy starts interviewing people about what they think is great about America makes me think that the title isn't a joke. And if you are going to make a movie called "________ hates America" you really shouldn't be surprised or make a big deal about ________ not being in your movie. Who would appear in a movie where the title states that you hate America? Joke or not.
And this guy isn't the first one to pull this stuff on Moore. I've read at least a couple of stories over the last few years about people making movies trying to ambush Moore the way he does to others in his documentaries. None of them apparently went anywhere as these stories were the last I heard of them.

I always thought he "twisted" things a little... My only frame of reference is "Roger and Me" and while I understand that The Factories closing ruined Detroit, There was no evidence the people being evicted were plant workers, and that seemed to be his assertion.
Having said that, everyone wants to call Moore "changed," while from what I've seen he's always tried to paint himself as "champion of the little guy" he addresses how the rich can manipulate the poor, and I think that's still the central underlying theme of F9/11

The biggest change is what I talked about above...how before he just almost had to "point and shoot" and he'd have the footage he needed against whoever he was going after.
Now he very visibily "attacks" people to get what he wants, as opposed to just "ambushing" them and letting them dig their own holes.

It looks hilarious just on the premise that it's one big rib on Moore - it's using his same style of filmmaking only using him as the target.
The only thing is, I'm not sure if this film is even going to be distibuted. Anyone have any clue as to if it's going to be released?

Dude can try and sell it himself. Most documentary filmmakers try and sell their films at festival after festival until they get funding or distribution. Is there anything on the site about donations?

As you all know by now, the last month or so has been absolutely nuts. We found an investor, who financed the completion of the film. We've been shooting and editing like mad, building a new trailer and the film itself. An article ran in Variety that brought us to the attention of a slew of awesome distributors.
He makes a good point:
Q: Hey @$$hole, who the F&!% are you to take on Michael Moore?
A: I'm a passionate guy with a camera who has a different perspective. Who the F&!% was Michael Moore to take on GM? I mean, really people, let's be a little more tolerant of others' opinions. Just because I disagree with Moore doesn't mean my opinion isn't valid, does it? Of course, I've noticed that Moore's fans may be some of the least tolerant people in the world. I've actually received death threats from people who claim that it's important to be heard, but demand that I shut up. I guess the 1st Amendment only applies when we're at a protest or are demanding redistribution of wealth.

No it won't get any publicity because it goes against the views of the ultra liberals that are trying to destroy this country from withing

Somehow, I doubt that Michael Moore is spending much of his own money to push the film. That's why we have movie studios. Also, you say that this kid's movie won't get distributed because his views are "opposite of Michael Moore's". If a studio thought it would make money, it would get distributed. There are numerous other factors involved in getting any movie made, but I doubt that this movie is being supressed in any way.

Uhh... precisely. That's exactly what I'm saying. I didn't say the media is supressing it. I was saying that it's not gonna get exposure because it opposes Michael Moore's view, and LIKE YOU SAID, that particular view isn't gonna make money.

Half of America is conservative. Are you saying that only liberals want to see this movie? Clearly, an audience can be found for conservatively biased movies (just as an audience can be found for a liberally biased movie such as Michael Moore's). If this movie isn't being made, it's not the media's fault. I would tend to blame a lack of interest.

No, what I'm saying is that it's not controversial. It doesn't go against the current authority. It's not hip. Controversy sells. Thus, this film does not promise to draw enough interest for a distributer to invest in it.
