Do you think the Westside Stadium
should be built?

JohnnyCash

No. Im all for a NY stadium but not in Manhattan. There wont be any parking and the construction is going to be a bitch for any driving or working in that area. TTraffic on the West Side Hgwy. and 10th ave. is really bad now. Building a Football Stadium right there will make it so much worse.

I have many feelings on this even though I am a Giant fan...but anyway...the Jets are the only team in sports to never have had an actual home game....I mean they started out at Shea and now with the Giants...I mean Jets fans see Giants stadium and have to dream....However, I feel that the Jets are being used for no perfect reason...I think that New York is using the Jets as an excuse to try to get the Olympics because that is what the stadium would be used for at first..and cmon let's be serious NYC is no way in hell getting the Olympics...and where the hell are they getting 600 million dollars from when the city says it's bleeding money...they have much better things to use that money for....and manhattan needs a new stadium like a hole in the head....and they go and say that a majority of their fan base is in that area...no it's not..it's in Queens and out on Long Island.....

How is a NASCAR track more important than a domed NFL stadium that'll brink, amoung other things, the SuperBowl to NY?

That would be better, but the traffic would be horrendous. What I like about the stadium in Manhattan is that traffic wouldn't be a concern. Mass transit could bring people to the games. As long as the Jets get a stadium in either the 5 boroughs or LI, I'll be happy enough to soil myself.

new york needs spectacles, larger than life buildings that serve as true gotham icons ...

the greatest sin was knocking down the original penn station ... in ten years - with downtown re-done and the new westside (newer penn station, the stadium and museum) will make new york become even more the capital of the world ...

manhattan will always be a tourist trap with traffic from hell, and there are alternatives to driving around the city ... any nit silly enough to drive through manhattan deserves to sit in endless traffic, that's why the good lord invented the subway ...

the new westside stadium would have no space or facilities for tailgating ... there would be very little space allocated for parking in general

the concept is to have the bars/pubs in the area serve the pre-game facilities ... i also heard that they'll try to have facilities at the stadium for those that want to pseudo-tailgate inside ...

that's the big trade-off, but idon't think the owners or corporate box holders care too much ...

So on Sundays when there is a one o'clock start you get a whole hour at the bar since they can't open until 12 on Sundays. And you figure you'll have to leave at 12:45 to get to your seat on time. You won't have enough time to get food.

Who do you think is bankrolling these anti-Jets commercials? Concerned teachers? Firemen? Citizens? No, it's Cablevision. They know that a Manhattan football stadium would cut into their business. The truth is that $500 million is an investment that will make back all the costs in less that 5 years. Cablevision has always been about retaining their monopoly over the NY metro area. They think they own Long Island. Fucking hate them. Go Islanders. Rangers suck. End of angry rant.

I like the idea.

Question: would the stadium be close to a subway stop? This seemed to work when the Redskins played at RFK. The Stadium/Armory stop was right at RFK and traffic seemed to be less awful than it is at FedEx field.

Besides, almost all their games would be on a Sunday when there is less traffic anyway. What are the plans for parking though? That could curtail tailgating I suppose.

I want the Jets out of Giants Stadium more than anything. But the traffic and shit, i would never go to manhattan again. fuck, i think this is kinda funny actually, just buy the land so they cant. dolan will probably build a stadium on the land so he makes money.

the funniest thing would be, the Giants want a new stadium. the state is considering it, they should give the Giants a new stadium, and just let the Jets have Giants stadium and call it whatever the fuck they want

The idea of the stadium is absurd. Traffic in Manhattan is unbearable as it is. If it were to be in Queens I'd be 100 percent behind this idea, but Woody Johnson refuses to put any money into making a stadium in Queens. He has come out and openly said he is only willing to build in Manhattan.

This whole idea is NOT about a stadium for the Jets, it's about Woody Johnson wanting to look like the Mr. Monopoly to his cronies. A stadium in Queens simply isn't as attractive as one in Manhattan, but the fact that it is virtually impossible to build anything on the West Side at this point is something Woody isn't interested in. He doesn't have to worry about traffic or anything else, other than looking like a big man to his pals.

and as for queens, do you know how fucked up the traffic gets on the GCP when there's a Mets game or even tennis? Tennis!
It's NY, there will always be traffic. No one's going to be driving to the WSS, but most will drive to a queens stadium.

who drives to a knicks or rangers(when there was hockey) game? no one.

who drives to a yankee or mets game? most.

what point, you cant compare football to other sports, its not nearly the same thing.

football games are once a week, its like an event. you dont go to a 1 oclock giants game at 12:30, you go at 9:30, cook some food, throw a football around and drink. i dont wanna go to a football game and walk around manhattan for an hour

knicks and rangers games are different, people dont tailgate near as much, and there are so many games. plus, its a different crowd. basketball games are mainly bigshots who pay insane amounts for good seats.

football is real fans, and most of the real jets fans dont live in manhattan. they live in long island, queens and new jersey now.

like i said, im not against a stadium, but the westside, thats just not smart at all. and remember, now they will be in manhattan, say hello to 10 dollar beers and what little parking that is there is about to triple in price when most people will need it.

its more than just gettin there, its the price of goin, the ability to get there. not all fans with season tickets can take a train, its takes about 2 hours from here to get to the city by train. 20 minutes west of here, in an area about 30 min from giants stadium, you cant even get there without driving about 25 minutes to a train station that goes to secaucus.

i know 5 people who own jets season tickets, and i know 5 people who said they wont if they go to manhattan. thats a pretty bad ratio

ok, that's you. But I know 3 people with season tickets, all say they will go. And I have defacto season tickets because i buy them from a guy who never goes. I'll go, and a trip into the city is 40 minutes for me.

Queens is further than manhatten from jersey, travelling costs much higher, more tolls and the theaving LIRR to deal with.
Beer's going to cost $10 anyway, the Jets have to recoup $800 million and the city $600 million.

yea cause of where they are building. it wouldnt cost that much in queens, and yea its farther from jersey, but the heart of the fans it makes it so much cheaper and closer too.

ill even say this, i occasinally get jets tickets, and since i dont take a train to the city, i would go to a game in queens before the west side, and i live in fuckin mahwah.

for the most part, trains are impractical. to get to MSG for me by car, on a sunday, about 30 minutes. to get to MSG on a sunday by train, being how long you have to wait for connections by me on a sunday, about 2 and a half hours. 2 and a half hours by train for whats 30 minutes by car. shit i got to stony brook from mahwah in 1:50 when there was a yankee game starting an hour after i left. thats stony brook, faster than a train to manhattan

I have season tickets for the Jets since 1977, who the hell cares what the name of the Stadium is. Just play good football and you will win.
I don't think the westside stadium will ever be built. People who go to football games want to tailgate...period. We get to the games at 9:00AM and stay 2 hours or more after the game. Who the hell wants to sit in traffic. Right now the Jets play in a great stadium with plenty of parking and yes , you can tailgate.
Too much congestion in NYC, I can't see this stadium ever being built.

I agree that putting this stadium on the westside of manhattan is just a stupid idea. I actually heard one of these guy say that instead of tailgating people could just go to a bar. Besides the fact of how much more exspensive that would be and how much less fun that would be, bars can't open on Sunday until noon.

And they keep saying that they need the stadium to keep our chances of getting the Olympics alive. Who the fuck wants the Olympics in NYC? Do you know what a cluster fuck that would be? It would cost a billion dollars just for the security. And for what, 12 days? Look how much money Greece lost this year on the Olympics and imagine how much that will be in 2012.

Traffic is the DUMBEST argument against the Stadium. For those who need to be reminded, the Jets play on SUNDAY. When traffic is the lightest.
Also, you can build traffic circles in/around the building which will get those cars off the road. Throw in a few traffic cops (Like the Yanks have) and things will be fine.
Also, when people know there's a game, they're likely to avoid the area entirely. So cars that would be there now, wont be with a stadium.

Those other events will be (mostly) conventions, which are mostly out of towners who will stay at the adjoining hotels. How many 50,000 seat stadium concerts does anyone do anymore? When was the last time you saw a concert like that at Shea/Meadowlands? You're lucky if you get a few a year. Again, traffic is the DUMBEST arguement.

I could see not wanting the City/State to spend the $. I could see not wanting it in your nieghborhood. I could see wanting more housing, which the City needs.

2nd dumbest argument is "build it in Queens". You want a stadium in Queens? Build one with your money. Dont tell someone else how to spend theirs. If it was MY $, I'd want it in Manhattan.

2nd dumbest argument is "build it in Queens". You want a stadium in Queens? Build one with your money. Dont tell someone else how to spend theirs. If it was MY $, I'd want it in Manhattan.

They are using city and state tax money so it is my money.

exactly what, i didnt agree with you. you acted like giants stadium never has concerts, and asked how often i see one there. i see one there as often as i see one at PNC arts center, which is only for concerts.

and conventions do still make things a pain in the ass. they dont all stay in hotels, they arent all from far away. it would clog the area with cars and taxis and clog the sidewalks near it with tons of people. thats a pain in the ass. you dont build stadiums in the busiest spot around. its just stupid, especially when your fans arent even really concentrated in that area

Whatever gets built on that site will require a platform, which is half the 600 mil. The other half is the dome, which the City, not the Jets want. Without the dome, the City cant use it for conventions, which is why they want it. The city is getting the Jets to pay for the building, which they will use.

If they put it in Queens, say Bye bye to most of the convention business. No payoff for the city.

Plus, The Jets dont WANT IT in Queens. Been there done that. What makes you think he'll still pony up the $ to put it there? He may decide to stay in Jersey, then NOTHING gets built

People from Queens cant figure out how to get to the city?
Tailgate? If I'm spending 800 million on a building I dont give a fuck where you cook sausages

I drive down 11th ave past the Javits center numerous times a day, every day. IT'S ONE OF THE QUIETEST AREAS OF THE CITY, even when they have conventions. Minimal traffic. You really dont know what you're talking about.

And the PNC arts center is about 20,000 seats, if that. This is a 50,000 seat stadium. YOU should read the posts, Son. Compare apples to apples. How many shows at GIANT STADIUM? Very few.

and also BDC if you bother to think.

Giants stdium doesnt have that many concerts because of CAA. most of the concerts are held there, which makes no difference cause the same people get the money.

its not gonna be that way with this, even though MSG holds most of the concerts, woody johnson wouldnt make money of that. so he is gonna wanna have the circus there and more concerts, so HE can make money. its not like he is building an arena somewhere else to have concerts.

this is his SOLE building, he would book it as much as he can, where as giants stadium is 1 of 3 buildings, so they dont have to whore it out

I am just selfish for wanting it since it would be easier for me to see my team, I could care less about the traffic or parking, NY traffic is a clusterfuck now anyway. I'm takin the PATH baby!!!! I don't think the taxes even affect me since I'm in Jersey.

Going to a game is a nice option but I like watching ALL the Sunday NFL games at home on DirectTV. Maybe a Monday night game though...

honestly, if i was spending my money, and ONLY my money, which he ISNT, i would put it in the place i thought i had the biggest fan base. i dont care about queens, thats just where the fans are. if the majority of Manhattan was jet fans, id still have a problem, but id understand alot more.

since manhattan is mainly giants fans, it doesnt make sense, no matter whose money it is

and BDC, before thios gets ugly, what i said makes sense. you asked me, thats ME, how many concerts ive seen recently at giants stadium. all i did was answer "as many as ive seen anywhere else"

that was all my point was, answering your question to me. not how many they have.

and once again you forget, giatns stadium doesnt book alot of concerts cause they make money off the arena. the jets wouldnt have an arena to make money off of too, so they would have to schedule more stadium acts then they do at the meadowlands, to make as much money

thats just a fact

And Snogg, you missed my point about the Stadium concerts. Only the BIGGEST bands can FILL a 50,000 seat stadium. And there's so few of those bands, and how often do they even tour. They use the Brendon byrne and PNC because most Bands CANT FILL 50,000 seats. Plus the music biz has been struugling for years anyway. Its just not a big enough factor as to whether you should or shouldn't build a stadium.

BTW This is getting ugly? I dont think so.

Christie wasnt that bad. Sure he couldnt kick off, but he still hit the few 50+ yarders we had him kick. A hell of alot better than its been the past few years.
I do agree we should get Nugent, that kid could bomb 65 yarders, but we have alot of holes, and without a first round, we cant be drafting kickers.

Just go to Latvia and hold a try out. Gotta find someone

Don't fall for that dirty old trick. That group ABCNYC or whatever it's called Association for a Better Choice in NYC, the one that runs all those commercials, is backed by Cablevision. They don't care about better schools or hospitals or anything like that. They just don't want anyone to steal their concert and sport thunder.

I'm not talking about the commericals... which I don't think I've ever seen. I just this any money the city spends on building the stadium complex would be put to better use in paying our teachers, policemen and firemen a little more.

I think it is a good idea, with that said I work for a NYS politician who pays me to think that, however these sort of capital improvement projects are always scrutinized, i.e. why can't the money go to education, affordable housing, NYPD/FDNY salaries etc.. I used to think the same way, but working on the inside makes you realize the sad truth, it doesn't work that way, I wish it did. Now given that epiphant, under the current climate I think this is a good plan. It should create revenue, and jobs. And I did receive a autographed Joe Namath mini-helmet and John Abraham football in the past month, so I am bought easily :)

I hate it though when pols get up and talk about fair bidding and such, as is going on in Brooklyn w/ the Nets arena. Both the Atlantic Yards (Nets) and Hudson Yards have been dumps for years, now that someone wants to improve and build upon them, it becomes an issue. Politicians should find the myriad of other empty lots in NYC and propose improvement. Why block these potential money-making plans? Okay lemme get back to kissing my boss's ass.

put it this way, regardless of who does what, cops, firemen and women, teachers, shit even bums need money before WOODY FUCKIN JOHNSON.
