When my kiddies are in trouble, I tend to call them by their last name. The good news is they now respond to both their first and lasts name in the classroom. :)

I usually am pretty bad with names, and have to meet someone a few times before it "clicks", but with my male friends its mostly first name when Im talking to them, but when Im talking to someone and referring to them, its last name. But with my female friends, its always first name. I do have this one girl that has a very cool name and I refer to her by first AND last name.

my first name is unusual, so i'm only referred to as that.

the sentences usually starts or ends with "that piece of shit"

I am referred to by my first name, which despite my board name is Nick and not JP. We do have a friend Anthony whom we call by his last name because it is an awesome last name. And there was already another anthony in the group.

I did it for a while after basic training, but I've since dropped the habit. ADF would never call himself by his own nickname.

Some people call me Dudley. That's because I was touched inappropriately in the back of a bicycle shop.

I only do it when I'm hanging out with 2 people with the same first name, I personally have never been called "Hasegawa", most likely because no one can pronounce it correctly.

Who is Karim Garcia?? I no respect heem.

I generally call people and refer to them by their first name only. Though my brother always refers to people in the firstname lastname way.

Like "I was in the store the other day with Chris Cruise" or "I got an email from Samantha Pathagoras" or "...so there we were out about Nine Mile with Bill Parker and there's this spherical object just lying on the road..."

When I'm spreaking to a person, I usually address them by their first name or nickname.
When I'm speaking about a person to someone else, I usually refer to them by their last name.
Most people refer to me by my last name or nickname.
Some people refer to me by both 1st & last (as they have a nice ring together).
On the rare occasions that someone refers to me by 1st name only, it's weird. I get taken aback because I'm not used to it at all. How weird is it to not be used to being called your own name?

We called guys by their last names out of necessity on my Cross Country team in high school. We had like 5 Brians, so most of them became known by their last names to avoid confusion. The names pretty much just stuck after that. I think it happens a lot in sports, and i'm not completely sure why.

My message board nicknames are the only nicknames i've given myself.

I think it happens in sports because your last name is on the back of your jersey. Oddly enough, my nickname in highschool when I played footbal was not my first or last name. It was four-seven (my number obviously)

I am generally referred to by last name but I rarely call someone else by last name.

in my circle of friends, there are three of us with the first name ... it just makes it easier to have a conversation ...

giving yourself a nickname is just asinine, especially if it's yer initials ...

a nickname needs to be earned through affectionate or pejorative methods or instances ...

i dont normally call people by their last name but at work its kinda normal to call the drivers by their last names, especially when there are 5 mikes and 4 franks and a few joes, and all that jazz. someitmes theyre even called by their route numbers, next thing ya know we'll be tattooing the numbers on their arms.
