I've had this problem for two days now, where I'll click on a link or a bookmark and get this error message that says "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" and "Server Error". Similar to the image above which I copied from another website.

However, if I hit refresh the page will generally then load. Or it will open up if I close the window and re-open it. I'm not sure why this is happening.

I ran spybot, and adaware, did virus checks and everything seems to be okay.

The only thing I could think of that could have caused it was that I temporarily installed a program called Sonic for my dvd burner. Though I've since removed that program. The problem is still here.

Just a little background on this system. I added a wireless/wired router about three weeks ago to the system and it has been working flawlessly. I'm not sure if it's related to this or not. I did a little research on this error and one of the sites said it's possible something in Internet Explorer has been corrupted, and is causing the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this or how to fix it? One of the websites I went to said to clear the cache and delete all cookies which I did, yet the problem is still there. It's not a big deal since I can eventually load the problem, but I do want to fix it. If I have to reinstall IE, should I reinstall it right over the version of IE that is on it?

Any help is appreciated.

I have this happen sometimes. You need to flush the cache. Try going to Tools - Internet Options

In there, clear all cookies, files and history. This may help, but it will log you out of certain things like ronfez.net. Next time you log in you will have to enter your username and password.

Also, have you done all the necessary windows updates?

Yes. There's nothing new to download.

As for clearing the cache and cookies, I did that already though the problem is still occuring.

Is this at work or home. I have this problem with msnbc.com at work. The reason (i think) is that the server cache is not allowing the newest page to load.

The news has been filled with reports of dedicated attacks on big sites; I noticed the slowdown the day before; on which post I tagged it on I have no idea. 5 Extra Credits points for anyone who finds it.

My guess is several factors; mostly the sites have increased the strength of firewalls and other things that cause many many pages to time out.

That is if youre having what I'm having, and thats having things like Google Time out from loading so slow.

I do know this; big sites have been getting hit hard by the hackers [aka ex-employees of MicroSoft].

It's happening at home.

At the job everything works fine.

> right mouse click on MY NETWORK PLACES
> right mouse click on LOCAL AREA CONNECTIONS
> click on REPAIR

just a quick thing to do, no idea if it will help but it can't hurt (i think?)

you can always go to the DOS command prompt and type (in windows XP)

ipconfig /release

then wait a few seconds and type

ipconfig /renew

This will usually help. Also, in my network places, disable whatever connection you are not using. If you are on the wireless, disable the LAN. This will help resolve conflicts, which I am now thinking is the problem. You can then enable them when you need them.

Here's my home network setup.

My main pc is connected to a wireless/wired router. I also have a laptop which is connected via the wireless connection to the router.

If I disable to LAN won't that cut off my connection that the laptop has to the internet?

I'm still getting used to networking so I just want to make sure that I'm doing the right things and not creating problems.

No. Disabling the lan means that if you ever plugged the laptop in to the router, you would not be able to get a connection until you re-enabled the connection. You do not need to remove it, just right click and disable. You will still have full use of the wireless as long as it is enabled. This will cut down on conflicts. I have a feeling this may solve the problem. After you do this, either do the IPCONFIG thing I mentioned above, or restart.
