The ringtone is the modern version of the person who put music on their answering machine. That was funny... maybe the first time you heard one, probably in college when kids get their first parents-free phone. But they got annoying real fast, didn't they? Like when you had to hear 3 minutes of Pearl Jam's Jeremey just to get to the chorus and hear some idiot say "Jooooohnnnnyy's not at... hooooooooooooome todaaaaaaayyyyy..."

geez...its a ring...everyone has one...and if anyone actually does it in order to get a laugh thats just dumb. Unlike one of those stupid messages you don't have to wait for the beep. it only becomes annoying if you don't answer for awhile.

and, IMO, rings are much more annoying than a quirky song every now and again. But, I will say that the volume doesn't have to be all the way up unless you are in a noisy place.

In the thread where FMJeff give a slight hint of his possible displeasure with T-Mobile; I mentioned I switched from ATT Wireless to Verizon on a whim. The Whim was going to a Radio Shack that had a phone with a normal ringtone. By normal, I mean I wanted tones, not songs, little samples that the rings are now.

The real need was a flip phone coz the old fucker would dial people if it got squished wrong, but the ATT Phones I was shown, the Model of the Month; did not have any ringtones at all; just samples of songs and sounds. There were two guys at the ATT kiosk, and I said, if you can get me a noraml ringtone out of this, I will buy it, and the plan. Four minutes later I was walking away, as they kept trying. Yes, weird story, the phone, I am betting has a normal ringtone somewhere, if not downloadable, but Every tone on the Menu, was a song sample, and go figure why I loathe that, but there ya go. Im weird.

Parents ring is the theme to Poltergeist.

When my best friend and fellow Pats fan calls I have the "Fox Sports" theme.

And I also have the Brazilian National Anthem.

But if I'm anywhere that isn't home, I usually have the phone on silent. Not even on Vibrate. I don't like taking calls in public.
