Why are we off on Monday?

i just found out today that i am off of work on monday. How come, 4th of july is sunday, so why the fuck are we off the next day.
4th was saturday last year and i wasnt off on monday

someone jsut told me its only when the holiday is on sunday, so are they tryin to tell me they built in a day just cause they know everyone is gonna get sloshed on sunday, and so they just give us monday off cause we would prob call out anyway?

i think federal holidays that fall on a sunday = the following monday = off. The federal banks do that, at least; sayeth Google.

Most people were off the 3rd of July last year. Typically when a Federal Holiday falls on the weekend, the weekday closest to the actual date is used to observe it.

It's tied to benefits packages. If you are given X number of observed holidays at your company (or by the government), then the company may have to give you a different actual day off to maintain the appropriate number within the calendar year.

In addition to the "fixed" holiday observation on Monday, my office is actually giving us two "floating" holidays. One this year to make up for December 25th being on a Saturday, and one next year to make up for January 1 falling on a Saturday.

Take a look at your company's holiday observance policy. I worked for a company that did not "guarantee" the 4th of July off, but often granted it.

It's just like some companies don't automatically give you Christmas Eve but will either close early or if it turns it into a 4 day weekend, go ahead and give it to you.

Then again, maybe they're just playing with your head. :)

fine satcam, if this is a leap year, i think it is, i forgot, then the reason we were off friday last year was it WAS the 4th. im still right, i still had to work the day after my birthday.

even still, this is bullshit, and my company holiday package are you kidding, i work off the books in a warehouse fool

I think you're circumstances are a little different that a lot of people on the board (and most posting in this thread). Most of us work M-F and not on the weekends. Therefore last year we got off Friday because otherwise we would a holiday short (as was mentioned earlier).

we have determined that 4th was actually friday last year freakshow, so that part i fucked up
and i work monday through friday with no weekends too

if a holiday falls on a weekend, you're supposed to get screwed. i dont ever remember getting off January 2nd cause the 1st was a sunday
