View Full Version : Have you ever had a corneal abrasion?

I got a corneal abrasion in a bar scuffle nine months ago. It healed in a couple of days, so I thought it was over with. Then almost 2 months later it started bothering me again - this feeling like there is something in my eye and I need to rub it. But after awhile I figured out that it's not such a good idea to rub this eye, it just makes it worse. When I last saw my doctor in January, he told me not to worry, this sort of thing is common, and I won't lose any vision, it's just a nuisance. I asked him if I could expect this to go away, and he said "yes, if we live long enough."

So the question is this: is this going to be a chronic problem that I'm going to have to deal with for the rest of my life? It was just a stupid scratch, it went away, and I thought it was over and done with. Did you ever have this? Do you know anyone who had this? When does it go away?

I'm not a doctor or anything, but usually corneal abrasions take maybe a few weeks to heal. If you still have one after this long, maybe you're doing something to keep it agitated (like rubbing your eye). You sure its that? Could be something else too.

Corneal abrasions aren't much to worry about though. It won't be perminent or anything. It should go away soon.

Have you gone to a different doctor for a second opinion?

Most importantly, you've got to go with what the pro has told you.
The rest of us, no matter what we have looked up on the net or what personal experience we have, are STILL rank amateurs.
That said, I have had several of them.
I am a carpenter and I get sawdust and other crap in my eyes rather often.
I do not know how the ones I have had would compare with yours.
One critical aspect seems to be where on your eyerball the scratch is located.
I was given some greasy shit to squirt in there, and it was fine in a week, sometimes a couple of days.
Bright sunlight is a motherfucker .
One time I had to wear an eye patch, pirate style.
Just to be sure, and because I liked the look, I kept it on a couple of days extra.
It's been several years since the last one, and all systems are go with me.

Hope it all works out for you.

Go to another doctor. Maybe you have something on the inside of your eyelid or something. Have a professional look at it, we is just a posting board!

I got rust in my eye once and my eye got scratched up real bad. It hurt like a bitch. The eye doctor flushed my eye and gave me some eye drops. It healed a few days later. 9 months seems like a long time for it to still hurt you.

You were in a bar fight? Did you get the corneal abrasion from the obligatory chair smashed on your back?
