i really don't see anything wrong with it, it's not like he's looking at it and laughing. he gets pissed when he sees it. i gues it's like a train wreck..can't help but watch even though you know it ends up bad.

however, i refuse to watch any bit of it. i don't even want to listen to it

honestly, i would want people to see the horror of it and to get mad and if it would get someone involved with what was going on, if it got someone educated yes i would. because i've seen my boyfriend research and actually educate himself on who these people are and not just make generlizations about all muslims or middle eastern people. i've seen him get involved in the world news when before he just passed over it all.

do i want someone to look at it and laugh and to use it as entertainment, no. would my family want to everyone to see it, i don't know. i would hope they would want people to see what's going on.

i believe in showing americans, and the rest of the world the truth. yes it may be horrible to look at, but i'd rather people know what's going on in the world (not just war mind you, anything that has been covered up in the past)

so i don't feel what i am doing is wrong. people make their own choices on what they watch and don't watch. i won't watch it, i have a weak stomach, not because i don't WANT to watch it, i do. curiousity killed the cat. but i won't for fear of getting sick. if someone else wants to watch it who am i to tell them what they can and cannot watch. it's their own decision....free will...their mind, their decision.

I haven't viewed these images or videos other than the Nick Berg video. I happened to know the address of a site that I knew would have those videos so I posted it.

I also agree that we shouldn't shun our eyes from what it out there. Though I am respectful of others who wish to not see it.

Well, I gather death by beheading is a pretty fucking horrible way to die, and anyone willing to do it pretty much shed their humanity a long time ago.

What the fuck am I missing in not seeing these? How the fuck do I "need" to see them? Yeah, I gather terrorists are murderous scumholes. I knew that well before the beheadings, and I still know it now.

I saw about 3,000 or so a few years back.

Sorry if I'm coming off like a dick, but it kinda pisses me off when it's implied I don't "get this" just because the idea of seeing another human being getting his head chopped off revolts and disgusts me to my very soul.

howveer i have seen one of the beheadings- the berg one (hes from an area by me).... i wish i hadnt seen it or heard it- i was hanging with my friend's bro and her boyfriend

it was so horrid i had nightmares that night...

its disgusting how stuff like that americans find intriguing- i wanted to barf ( i tasted that taste you get in your mouth when you are about to vomit)

i respect you decision not to see the video but i do believe it is important to watch. these individuals are a detriment to society and humanity at large and need to be removed.

It's just simple curiosity (for me, and I'm assuming, alot of others like myself). I am the most curious person you will ever meet, if someone knows something that I don't, I don't care if it involved me or anyone around me, I HAVE to know. I knew I could gain access to the Nick Berg video, and I was curious, I like learning about politics, and I felt that had I wanted to form an opinion on these beheadings, viewing one would help that. Needless to say I was disgusted, I could watch the rest of them, but I can't imagine it being any different or any worse.

You see one you see 'em all. Not that I could even watch Berg. I watched them read the paper then he started screaming and I had to turn it off. Out of utter curiosity, I went back later and watched through the beheading. It was horrible.

My personal opinion (and not meaning to be a slam against people who watched the videos - I have good friends who I like and respect who went looking for them too) is that no one really needs to see these videos or images - they simply want to.

There is something about having the control of watching someone else's life end - of having the power to turn it off. One second they are alive, and the next they are gone. It can be rewound, and they are alive again. It can be turned off right before the moment of death, and they were still alive the last we saw them.

Some of the most compelling images and heartbreaking images from 9-11 were the people suspended in air, some holding hands, as they plummeted to their deaths. The closest we came to seeing the impact of these people was in the documentary that recorded the crashing sounds the bodies had on the pavement, and the reaction shots we've seen of people there. In Latin American countries, however, where violence and bloodlust isn't shied away from, they did show some of the more gruesome impact images on their nightly newscasts.

Do we need to see kiddy porn to know that it's evil? Do we see the bodies of people dying of AIDS in Africa to know that it's a plague? Are blind Americans less likely to be for war simply because they can't see it?

I'm not saying that we take everything at face value - maybe it really was important for some to see what those beheading looked like, and then reported back to the rest. Where are the lines we draw about what needs to be seen to be believed, with what we can accept and trust?

A case could be made that the prison abuse images were needed to be seen, if (for no other reason) than it was important to see what the rest of the world was seeing and reporting. For a few moments there, before the spin and the overkill played out in the media, Americans were able to see what it was like to be from somewhere else, and I felt that that was important.

I don't know - I suppose I've argued for the other side of this issue just as much. We do need people to see this and verify these horrors, but do all of us need to? And those that choose to - at what point does it go from being a curious duty to being simply voyeuristic?
