I've seen listing of "chickenhawks" and some of them include Rumsfeld, such as this one (http://www.nhgazette.com/cgi-bin/NHGstore.cgi?user_action=list&category=%20NEWS%3B%20Chickenhawks%3B%20Chickenhaw k%20Headquarters), refer to Donald Rumsfeld as a chickenhawk because he was in ROTC during the Korean War. As someone who is currently in ROTC, I would hate to have my service tainted because I may not have been commissioned in time for a war. I think his contribution as an officer was greater than it would have been as an enlisted troop. Rumsfeld's policies aside, what do you think?

How often do you have to walk around school in your uniform, and how much crap do you take for it?

I'm not mocking you, I would have been in AF ROTC had my health allowed.

nothing wrong with being in the ROTC as far as I can tell but if the man had any honor, he would go find a sword to fall on. Or go put a helmet on and fight along side the kids he has sent to die for oil. It would be nice if the ones who live come back and get taken care of but that's not gonna happen either is it. So he was an officer but never went to war? Well if he's not called up, he's not called. It's not in his control, unless like W, it was never an issue because there's no way daddy would let him risk his life. Hell, I wouldn't want someone as dumb as him to operate a gun anyway.

I taught at MAST a ROTC school out on Sandy Hook, NJ. Most of them were totally cool with having to wear the uniforms; Mon-Wed they could wear whatever school kids can wear, but thurs/fri there they are.

Interesting Gig. I had a 75 foot Research Vessel at my disposal, well along with the other three science teachers. Thats a small school; one science teacher teaught the entire grade.

Ever been out to Ambrose Light? Under all the bridges of Manhattan? Under the Driscoll Bridge? Theres some sights you might want to see; or not.

I've never worn it on campus, since I'm at a satellite school and not the host, but the people who see me in uniform the most are commuters in New York City (During the War in Iraq!) and they've been more curious than anything. Nobody has given me crap.

My detachment is in the unique position of being a single detachment for the 40+ schools in the NY metro area.

I had good friends who did the ROTC thing in college, and nobody ever gave them shit about the uniforms.

Hell, I think they got more respect AND fine booty BECAUSE of the uniforms, and I was kinda jealous of that.

Well, I never saw any ROTC guys take crap in college, but in high school, well, the ROTC kids in my HS took a lot of shit.

He was a Naval Aviator in the 1950s -- just after Korea and before Vietnam.
