View Full Version : Cheney will leave ticket in August

according to rumors in Washington.

The newest theory - advanced privately by prominent Democrats, including members of Congress - holds that Mr. Cheney recently dismissed his personal doctor so that he could see a new one, who will conveniently tell him in August that his heart problems make him unfit to run with Mr. Bush. The dismissed physician, Dr. Gary Malakoff, who four years ago declared that Mr. Cheney was "up to the task of the most sensitive public office" despite a history of heart disease, was dropped from Mr. Cheney's medical team because of an addiction to prescription drugs.

That's hardly an accurate title, considering that it is still a rumor, but yes, there have been a variety of rumors floating around that Cheney will be dropped from the ticket.

Didn't Poppa Bush also have rumors swirling around him that he was gonna drop Quayle from the ticket? I think the George Bushes share the same brain!

If anyone is telling Bush to drop Cheney from the ticket, it's going to be Cheney.

And historically the VP has little to no impact on the race.

Re: "Who Else"

If Bush was smart he would try and court the rest of the Republican party, and some of the moderate Democrats, with a Rudy Gulliani or a John McCain - he would win hands down.

However, if Cheney leaves, Bush will more than likely choose someone from the same crowd, but maybe not SO inside. Maybe a governor out there (lots of conservative ones out there), with the boldest suggestion being his own brother, Jeb.

There is also speculation that Condi would be put on the ticket, which would be historic (no doubt), but not likely to swing many new voters.

Until this actually happens, this is nothing but a Democrat conspiracy theory.

If Bush was smart he would try and court the rest of the Republican party, and some of the moderate Democrats, with a Rudy Gulliani or a John McCain - he would win hands down.

If John McCain won't join Kerry, who despite McCain's recent campaigning efforts, he clearly likes MORE than Bush, I doubt he'd join up with W.

And why should Guiliani join the ticket now? Assume Kerry wins in November. If Rudy were to run up against him in 2008, he would absolutely DESTROY Kerry at the polls - and that's even if Kerry has four GOOD years. Rudy should just sit back and relax, because he probably knows that no matter what happens in November, he's got it made to either defeat Hillary in 2006 for her Senate seat or to synch up the Republican nomination in 08.

However, if Cheney leaves, Bush will more than likely choose someone from the same crowd, but maybe not SO inside. Maybe a governor out there (lots of conservative ones out there), with the boldest suggestion being his own brother, Jeb.

I know you hate Bush with all your soul, but I would think you would at least give Bush's people - say, Karl Rove - enough credit to realize that Jeb Bush would be probably the worst choice that could be made (outside of maybe choosing someone like Rumsfeld).

There is also speculation that Condi would be put on the ticket, which would be historic (no doubt), but not likely to swing many new voters.

Condi would be a good pick, given her credentials. Powell would be an even better selection, if he could be convinced to run (he's always stated that his family doesn't want him to, but I still think he can be convinced).

This is all conjecture, of course, since I don't think any really seriously think Cheney will be gone.

mccain won't run -- too much baggage from the southern 2000 primaries, and old footage/reports might provide unnecessary campaing fodder ...

guilliani won't get picked -- they perfer him to shine ath the convention to strengthen the 9/11 ties to the grand old party, his views on social issues (particulary gay rights) are waaaaay to liberal for this administration

IF cheney is gone, the smart pick is from a 'swing state' ... the new VP candidate will likely to come out of ohio, pennsylvania or florida

in the recent new yorker, there is a short article about this doctor. based on the paper trail regarding fake subsciptions, etc., it doesn't sound like this dismissal of the doctor was fake. but then again, this administration presented inaccurate information well enough to start a whole war, so this would be like a walk in the park.

Proof that those of us in the northeast really don't realize how little a shit the rest of the country gives about Rudy NOW...so imagine what'll be left in 2008. How exactly will he "destroy" ANYONE 5 years from now? You really think he can sail that long on 9/11 alone?

I've put forth two possibilities - Rudy vs. Hillary, or Rudy vs. Kerry.

Rudy's a better politician than either of them.

He wouldn't even need 9/11 to beat either.

Since when did the better politician win?

Hillary, as much as I'm not a fan of hers, would smoke Rudy in a national election, especially if it's in 2008 or beyond. At that point, she'll still be Hillary, while he'll be nobody.

Personally, I don't have a problem with Rudy at all, but I think he lost most of his chances for national office when he had to drop out of his LAST race with Hillary because of the prostate cancer.

Hillary vs. Rudy = Moot Speculation

Hillary and Bill know how to win elections. While I would go into it thinking she would be a long shot of winning the nomination (from Edwards, I can assume), much less a national election, I never, ever bet against the Clintons.

The current state of the Republican party will not nominate gay loving, not woman hating, minority tollerating Rudy. Just won't happen. They remind me of the Democrats in the 1980s, when the left hijacked the party - except, the neo-cons find ways win.

((cough-cough-cheat-cough-cough))

Not going to matter - Kerry will run for reelection in 2008. Edwards will run in 2012, and then reelection in 2016, and by 2020 Hillary will be too old to bother a run for it - now, Chelsea...that might be something worth sticking around for!

WOW! I can just see it! 16 years of Democrats in the white house! Poverty, racism, polution, war, hunger, no health care, unemployment will all be things of the past! The land of milk and honey will be here, sugahs!

;)

now that's hot...

Cheney comes off as more intelligent and mature than George. I think regardless of politics people view Cheney as competent and confident. It would be tough shoes to fill.

He also seems like the biggest scumbag in the White House right now. At least to me he does, he had the most to gain from the war in Iraq.

I don't know...maybe by 2020 America will be ready for a 73 year old female President. After all, Ronald Reagan was 69 when he was elected in 1980.

Even though I was joking - I still doubt it, though.

Well shit, you might as well put "AP" next to it. If the Enquirer says it, it must be true.

By the way, why is the article in the Entertainment News and Gossip section?
