This one has been bubbling around the 'net for a good week or 2, but it seems old Harry Fatass over at Ain't It Cool says it's a "done deal". It would appear that X-Men director Brian Singer is the next in a long line of names attached to this project. And he's bringing his X-Men writing partners Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris with him. Know what that means? We can all celebrate the end of that abortion, I mean script, that that turd McG wanted to film. You know, the one where Krypton doesn't explode and Lex Luthor is an alien. Well, it is at long last going on the shitheap where it belongs. Singer apparently wants to get away from an origin story, maybe because Nolan is doing that over at Batman HQ and he doesn 't want to bite his shit; it seems he wants to keep going with the Christopher Reeve continuity.
I don't have a problem with that, I mean I can do without nuclear man, but X-Men was cool enough that I think we can trust Singer to handle this well. I don't think Superman needs the kind of 'rebirth' that Batman does. I mean Joel Schumacher almost destroyed the franchise and we all need something to replace the awfulness. The Reeves movies, although kind of cheesey towards the end, are nowhere near as damaging to the Superman property as Batman and Robin was to Batman. I see no reason Singer, who is better known for his character work than explosions and action scenes (Usual Suspects - the various mutants' angst in both X-Men films), can't just continue where the other movies left off. We don't necessarily need a retelling of the story.
