It just seems to me that every person I run into has a kid, especially down here in FL. For me it just seems wrong to be knocked up so to speak at such a young age. Alot of these girls arent even married and dont plan on being married for a long time now. Now I have nothing against kids I think they are wonderfull and inside Im still a big kid. However Im Looking for a serious relationship and I feel kids might get in the way. My friend who's 29 says I shouldnt think like that. After all hes 29 with 2 kids a 7 year old and a 1 year old and says theres alot of woman who think the same way, and of course for a guy just ending his 2 year , 2nd marage. He says there might be something your missing, that woman could be perfect shes got looks and personality and your matches and needs. So, Im entitled to my oppion and he respects that, but I just cant see myself dating someone my age who has a kid. I need your oppinions....

At this point in my life, age 23, i would not date a girl with a kid. I might be doing my seld a dis-service because I am sure a lot of them are great. But that is a situation I just would not want to get in right now. Maybe in 10 years it will be different. But if I am out and I meet a girl who tells me she has a kid, I instantly lose interest.

After i was divorced, a met a woman who already had a 4 year old girl from her first marriage. We dated and often took her daughter with us. It wasn't bad at all. Me and her daughter started to bond since she really didn't have a father (her real father never visited her)..One thing led to another and I eventually married her mother...I eventually adopted Janine as my own daughter and I never looked back!!!!

As was so eloquently put to me by one of my friends: "never date a woman with a kid, because if they had one, they can always have another."
Meaning that if an accident occurs and you knock the girl up, no matter what you may think of it, you'll be paying support for 18 years.

I havn't dated a single mother, and honestly, I don't know if I would. Mostly because if it turns into a long relationship and fails, it's not just one heart i would be breaking, and I don't think that would be fair to the kid..

but on the other hand, i would date the mother if the daughter is hot.....it would be a nice front

don't do it, if you get attached to the girl, you will most likely get attached to the kid.

and if things fall apart you break up with two people, the kid who you still love very much, and the ex girlfriend, which if you still want to see the kid, you have to stay civil with.

become attached to a child that is not yours, you have no legal recourse to see, be apart of that childs life.

and now on a purely vain level......

if you do, hope she got the stitches to close the vag back to virgin size.

i can only speak from experience, i don't have any kids of my own. i lived with my ex and her daughter since the daughter was a little under 2 till she was just about 5. but personally that was the worst pain i ever had to live with. that was almost 5 years ago, and i wonder what happened to my "daughter" how she's doing and such. all i know is that she's 9 now.
so i'm a little biased, i say don't do it, because it turned out painful to me.
but then you read a story like reeshy's and it's all good.
it all turns into, can you deal with it, good or bad. can you live with if it turns bad, breaking up with two people.

can you deal with being a (step)father at an early age and just being thrown into it.

can you deal with being young(i don't know your age but i'm guessing your young), really wanting to party, go out, drink, but you can't because there is no babysitter?

don't get me wrong there is good things to. like sitting watching cartoons with the kid.
playing catch. hugging. going to the zoo.

all stupid mundane things that you do with a kid that cares become fun and amazing.

but no one can ever tell you what to do, these are choices you have to make on your own.

I think most of the negative regarding dating a woman with kids is because they refuse the let the natural father off the hook, regardless of how great a guy you are and a better roll model to their kids. They feel that because the pervious guy had impregnated them, they owe it to themselves to punish the guy for all time, even if you are willing to fill in for the creep. I dated a girl who had a kid by some guy who was a drunk and who beat her up, but she refused to deny him association with her child, even though he couldnt care less. I couldnt and wouldnt understand it so I sent her packing. I figured if my love and willingness to make up for someone elses shortcomings is not enough to overcome some girls feelings of revenge, then I am better off without them.

There's nothing for anyone to make fun of Reesh, you were married to someone who you loved dearly and who loved you. You also have a daugther that you gained from this relationship. You've been blessed by the kind of love that many people on this board, let alone this planet wish they could have.

As for Ag's question, personally when I was dating I never really had a hang up with the girl having a child, though it definitely wasn't a preference. If I had to choose, I'd say to avoid the relationship because you could always do better. It would really take someone that you can honestly connect with to make the choice if you wanted to be with that person.

I mean doesn't there come the point where you are too old and you have to take the next thing that comes along? I mean, I am 30, old and really at the end of the line and really have no shot at getting anything of a decent relationship so I am a bit forced to date someone with kids. I really have no other choice. I blew all my other shots with single goods int he past year or in one case didn't feel like I was good enough and maybe dating one with kids is the only option after 30. So yeah, I would do it. not sure how old you are but if things are looking really desperate, go for it just for the sake of dating someone.

Everyone comes into a relationship with a history. No relationship is ever going to work unless you go into it willing to love someone's good points and live with their negative. It's insulting to me as a parent to read most of the responses to this topic, because I know that my children make me a stronger, more tolerant, more responsible and more loving person. The idea that anyone that dates me is pretty much using their last resort plan is ridiculous.

I suppose until you're ready to be selfless, and responsible, having a child seems like a curse, but I'd bet that most parents on this board would disagree.

I certainly didn't mean to come off the way it sounded above. The point I was making is that if people have a hang up about the possiblity of being in a relationship with someone with a child they can always find someone else out there. As I said I never really had a problem dating someone with kids. I'm sorry if it came off to mean that someone with kids is less, or a negative. I was in "getting ready for work" mode so I was running and didn't really take the time to choose my words better.

1) i think its excess baggage that the other party in the relationship doesnt need- i know of people who were in relationships with people with kids and they get attached and want to adopt them BUT they never realize what kind of responsibility comes with that

or

the kids get attached to the boyfriend or girlfriend - then couple breaks up- then kids are emotionally scarred

A friend of mine once said something to me that I think applies to this little problem. If you're gonna paint a picture, you want a nice clean canvas. You don't want something someone else has already scribbled all over.

Although, I do have another friend who is a single father, and he met a wonderful girl who treats him and his daughter brilliantly. I hate to say this, and it's as much an indictment of these men as it is of the mothers, and an enormous generality, but usually a single mother is in that situation because the guy who knocked her up is a piece of trash scumbag who won't handle is responsibilities. Obviously this is not the mother's fault, BUT it's not really that difficult to spot a man like this and a woman that would involve herself with a man of that character has some kind of issues/baggage that you REALLY don't want to get bogged down in, if that is indeed the case.

If it's something like a divorce and that father is doing the right thing, or she's a widow, I would say go ahead. If not, and I quote my father, "I would have run a thousand miles by now."

I think this is the most important issue here, and I really think that any single parent who allows thier dates anywhere near thier kids is incredibly selfish and doesn't give two shits about the harm they're doing the kids, and creating all kinds of emotional abandonment issues.

I'm not saying I don't think single mothers/fathers should date, but let the so's know about the kids, but keep them away untill you know you're in it for the long haul

for gods sake, we'll never get out of this awful mess of a socity until people actually start taking some responsibility for th lives they create, and put them first instead of being so goddamn selfish

To expand on my previous response, yes, everyone brings there own baggage into a relationship. I think it's more challenging when kids are involved. I can speak for myself after my parents got divorced and my mother started dating, I absolutely despised these guys my mom would bring home. Granted, they were pretty much all losers, but my sisters and I were still too young to understand things, and we didn't want some stranger trying to all of the sudden become a father figure to us. Kids should come first, not relationships. And, unfortunately, not all single parents think like this...many tend to put their own relationships and feelings ahead of their kids.
And call me selfish, because I know I can be, but at this point in my life, I don't want to have to deal with a relationship where kids are involved.

For me it just seems wrong to be knocked up so to speak at such a young age. Alot of these girls arent even married and dont plan on being married for a long time now.

I can understand not wanting to date a chick because you don't want to deal with the hassle of her kid. There's nothing wrong with that, but what's with the moral high horse about other people's decisions. Who fucking cares if someone else got knocked up when they were young, or ..::gasp::.. had a child but didn't plan on being married? The sooner everyone gets out of everyone else's lives, and quits judging others for their "shortcomings", the sooner the world we live in will become a better place.

The fact that anyone has the time to look up stupid fucking pictures on the internet to post in this thread explains why most everyone that has responded to this thread is pretty much incapable of growing up.

People get married, have children, try love and fuck up. That's life. If you're not able to deal, stay the fuck alone and miserable.

A clean slate and a perfect world do not exist. Mr/Mrs Right isn't fucking out there.

As much as I've been hurt, I'll still have to say that "It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

Please resume the bickering that fills your daily existence.

BLANK canvasses! BLANK canvasses only! I cannot stress this enough.

Edit: And the thing with Mary (Double M, as I called her) was weird. First of all she was the best piece of ass I've ever had, and I've had 'em all! And I was going through this whole 'saving people' thing at the time. It was just a strange situation.

Plus her brother, Lazarus, could drink himself stupid. One time he drank sooooo much that everyone thought he was dead. It was great, they buried him and everything. Then, 'cause I knew he was just out from the drinks, I stood in front of the tomb and commanded him to rise. He comes staggering out, stinking of death which added to the effect, with like the worst hangover in history. He seriously looked like he'd just risen from the dead. The whole place went nuts, it was great.

That's fine, because, let's be honest, what does every successful black (and is there any black man blacker than Wesley? He's so black, he's purple) man do? That's right, a white woman.

So the game is back on, the store is re-opening for business! White women, get in line. And maybe Asians, and light skin, and I do mean LIGHT skin, Puerto Ricans (and by Puerto Ricans I mean anyone of Hispanic descent). I, and my English accent, will be available to suit all your needs, listening and otherwise.

Ok, stop now, ok? The discussion is no longer entertaining, enough of the name calling and put downs. Granted I said what I felt earlier, and we all can acknowledge that we have different opinions about this subject, but it is unnessary to vent it out here like this.

Silera has it exactly right. Fear of what could go wrong in any situation will prevent you from experiencing anything at all. You'll waste all your time dodging imaginary bullets instead of living. Also kids are really really cool.

JPMNICK

This thread is going nowhere because it is an OPINION. We might as well be talking politcal issues. there is no right or wrong. the question was posed. people weighed in. the end. no need for name calling. There is no right or wrong. Silera made her point known. obviously it is different that many others because she is a woman with a kid. So she looks at it from a way different vantage point. a single male who is 21 will have an opinion as well as a single divorced male who is 39. who knows, and really who cares. they are opinions, not meant to directly hurt anyone. Also, how can you say there is no Mr. / Mrs. Right out there? Maybe you have not found the person, but it does not mean that it does not exist. there are people who are happily married for 50 years.

Silera, I am sorry you were offended by people who say they would not date a woman with a kid. I am one of the ones who said I would not do this. This is not a knock against you, I am sure you are a great person. but regardless of that, i would not put myself in that situation. as much as it sucks to say, it is a situation with potential for disaster. I also would not put myself in other situations not pertaining to this subject. Such as getting into a car with a drunk driver. These are personal decisions. i do not look down on single mothers or the men who date them.

Sorry for the rant, but I feel strongly about this. poking fun at someone is one thing, and there are some people who can take it better than others. Look at Keith. We bust his balls, but he keeps posting and is an awesome sport about it. AG posted this thread and asked us what we though. the last line of his post said "i need your opinions". that is what people gave. I am sure 99% of the people who said they would not date a woman with a kid do plan on having kids of their own. but there is a world of difference.
