View Full Version : Bush's Speech

That single brain cell in his head must be so lonely.
45 minutes without saying a thing!
The gist of the speech was that, "You guys better turn over your terrorists or you'll be in such BIG trouble."
I'm sure Bin Laden is laughing his ass off at his lack of leadership.
This is a new type of war, but immediate retribution is demanded. The US, Israel, England, USSR, even France have lists of terrorist organizations and their locations. Eliminate some of them now. Clean up the rest later.

Yes, 45 minutes of crap we
ALREADY KNOW!!! The only
reason he made this speech is
b/c he knows he had to reach
out to the American poeple!
No shit, we are against
terrorism and those who harbor
terrorist! I *NEVER* thought
I'd say this (and this is my
dad's BIGGEST "Someday, you'll
understand...") but how I wish
pre-Alzheimers Reagan was in
control. Right then and there
he would have asked Congress
for a Declaration of
War!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're ... against...terrorism? Now everything makes sense. I thought it was actually an OK speech even though it was pre-known knowledge. I did appreaciate how he said military personel will die, which means this will involve ground troops. This wasn't a speech about new knowledge, this was a speech about stuff we know to rally us together. I thought he was the most sincere I've heard him ever and I feel safter under him than under Gore.
The Cat Calls given to Rudy were a bit odd.

If you want a bombing, who are you gonna bomb? Would you rather have a hundred unidentifiable bodies scattered across the landscape, or thousands of terrorists in our custody to do what we please with? And if they don't comply, you'll get your bombings.
"They started it first" is not a good excuse for killing innocent people. If that's the case, if they retaliate, you're fair game.
I'm not Bush's biggest fan either, and I sure was laughing at the stupid faces he makes, and the way he looks at people when he addresses them, seemingly oblivious to the fact the camera is stationary and it just looks like he's wandered off somewhere else...but the country is in his hands, retarded or not. Support him, because he's not going anywhere for the rest of this "war".
At the end of the day, we're not stopping terrorists, we're stopping terrorists that affect US. I'm placing my bets that Rome as well as dozens of other cities or countries plagued by terrorism will still be run by terrorists at the end of this. That's why I regret that he didn't name anyone else than Afghanistan in this. Just a general "countries that support terrorism", meaning the middle east, I guess.
So whatever. bloodthirst is never an answer unless, of course, you're in the elementary school playground with a cheesgrater. Remember, put it in backwards, because otherwise it's a bitch to get out, and how are you going to fuck little Johnny if he's still got a cheesegrater in his ass?

another feeling i still can't shake is that it's not Bin Laden who did this. we don't know who did this, and we won't know for a while. We're so quick to point fingers yet we probably don't have any conclusive evidence that it WAS him. Do I think he's a bad person? Hell yeah. But there's always that possibility that there's a new player in this game of world poker.

Bin Laden is the scapegoat of the moment. All terorists must be destroyed. Even Bush seems to realize this.
Bin Laden needs to be destroyed (at the very least he was responsible for the USS Cole). But so does EVERY other terrorist group.

i'm not saying he dosn't deserved to be killed or destroyed. He definitely does, as does every terrorist group out there. but i'm am 100% sure there are terrorists groups we don't know about. And this mgiht be one of the groups who did the 9/11 thing. Wait for us to tire our resources against Afghanistan and THEN reveal themselves.
But still- destroy Bin Laden definitely.

Ikeaboy, you're right. But the only comforting thing about this all is that in the past, we've been only going after the terrorists like the occasional cockroach you see on the floor. Now we're breaking down the walls and going after the nests.
I'll be interested how our "internal security" is treated in the coming months. How are we ever going to be safe? I can only hope they finally expose the Shriners for the terrorists they really are. Look for a car bombing from the Shriners in the near future. Fortunately, due to the size of the actual car, no one outside of a three foot radius will be hurt.

I wish you people would understand what Bush was establishing!!!
I am in the Military and I know people that are there right now and I know Delta Force commandos that will be right in these terrorist's tents with them - slitting their throats!!!!!
BUSH just told the world - not through the media - exactly what the media has been reporting Bush has said. This is the first time that we have seen our LEADERS say what the media reported.
The demand has now been set by our Commander In Chief - we will act. He has specifically called the Clerics of Afghanistan out and to act immediately! The entire world just saw what the F'n blondes and talking heads of the media have been saying - WHAT BUSH JUSY SAID
WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE THINK!!???? THAT WE JUST HAVE SHIPS AND TROOPS STANDING THERE WITH PRE-FABBED ORDERS TO GO IN WITH SPECIFIC MISSIONS?
No - we are going on our terms people - we are going to go when they peek out of their shitty little hide sites and take a look around.
I will quote A Few Good Men - "I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post - either way I don't really give a damn about what you think you are entitled to!!!!"
You people have NO idea how covert commando operations work - secrecy keeps them alive and they need to rehearse their operations before 12 men go into a totally hostile country!!!!!!!!!!
You should just support the military and realize that we are coming - and may God have mercy on their souls!
Don't be a bunch of whiners - we are all ready and waiting - we will strike - and Victory will be ours!

I'm with Rooster on this one, gang. Bush did a magnificent job in showing his resolve to the world. He was at times angered, saddened, and resolute. He made no bones about how far he will take this, and served notice on the rest of the nations of the world that if they weren't with us, they were against us.
He burned with passion when he spoke of the lives that were lost, and especially when he held up the shield of the deceased police officer. I felt good knowing my President was an honest to goodness human being, and not some phony, polished politician like we had to endure for the previous 8 years. I also kept saying to myself as I watched, "Thank God this isn't Al Gore up there right now." I assume he would have been far more concerned with the internal combustible engine being the death of us all rather than religious zealot terrorists bent on destroying our way of life.
Regardless of all that, we must all realize that unity is the only way the country can accomplish anything; we should have learned at least that much from Vietnam. So please, let's not bicker over how soon or how hard we're gonna hit 'em. Just realize we HAVE TO hit 'em, and be ready to back up your country, just as you would have your buddy's back in a barroom brawl.
It's gonna get ugly.

Have you all considered that Bush really doesn't want to bring down Bin Laden, because doing so would jeopardize the oil producing nations in the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia.

What did you people expect to hear tonight? The exact time the first tomahawk missle would be launched? Or where the first infiltration of a Seal tem would take place? All he could do tonight is show the people that the government is not sitting idly by and twiddling there thumbs. He was giving us a direction to look to-not necessarily a detailed road map but just a direction. Listen to some of FDR's speeches and you will see that he was just as vague as Bush because he had to be. Bush can't afford to tip his hand at this stage of the game. All I'm asking is that we give him a chance-this thing is going to take a long time to reach completion-if we ever get that far!

I think the problem with America is that we want to know everything. Not that that's always bad but a lot of people seem to want him in front of a giant flag going on a endless monologue about nobody ever won a war by dying for his country but by making another bastard die for his and how we're sending our boys over there to kill all those sons of bitches. People, e.g. Billy, actually do want to see bombs dropping as Bush speaks. They want something. Do I blame them? No but you dont' want all our plans aired to an international audience.

45 minutes without saying a thing!
That seems to be the complaint about his speeach last night.
Well to be honest, I thought the opposite.
Bush said some VERY important things last night that needed to be said before we move any further.
1. Spoke on our current state and how our country is doing since the attack
2. Explained to the American Public the cause of this attack, why Bin Laden and his groups have problems with the U.S.
3. Described the current state of Afganistan so Americans know what kind of people we are dealing with.
4.Vocalized his respect for the Muslim Religion, and that he has all the admiration in the world for Muslims, and that this is not an attack on Muslims, but on Terrorism.
5. Gave recognition to the NYPD, NYFD, Rudy, Pataki, etc.
6. Outlined all his demands clearly, left no room for negotiation, and explained that there would be severe consequences to those who don't follow.
That is all I can remember now (Plus it is 8:30am and I can't believe I can remember anything right now)
And those who say "we knew all this" ... the fact is, it was never FORMALLY said. Now everything is laid out, no one can say they didn't understand the demands, didn't know the demands, or didn't understand the repercusions. That not only goes for Middle Eastern countries but for all countries around the world, and for the people in our own.

Maybe my take on this is wrong but, having our troops ready to go is the main objective. I think he wants all the countries to give all the information they have so we can go to direct areas. Not just go in blindly. Kind of like the "Hit the Mole on the Head" game. Find the hole then hit them when they pop thier heads out.

I think Bush's speech was sweet music to our ears, but I still want to see the action behind his words. Also, what about all these terrorists that are already here on our soil? I know they took in a lot of suspects for detainment and questioning, but I still think there are a lot of them still walking around free and ready to tick. It's scary to think that this might drag out over a LONG period of time.

When he says a war on terrorism and every country that supports them is just an outright lie. I don't think our government is going to go after the Basque in Spain or the IRA. And how about eliminating State Terrorism instead of just State Sponsored Terrorism. Our war on terrorism should start by us not supporting governments that are support terrorism or commit terrorism themselves. I'll give you an example we send lots of money to Colombia every year to support their country. Colombia is known for having death squads that roam the country and kill "dissidents".

<i>"I'll give you an example we send lots of money to Colombia every year to support their country. Colombia is known for having death squads that roam the country and kill 'dissidents'."</i>
that's because the "war on drugs" (haha, "war on drugs" that's pretty funny) is obviously more important than the "war on terrorism".
columbia is like the #3 recipient of US aid.
<i>"And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."</i>
hmmm...
bush's <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-092101bushtext.story">speech</a> left me...uhm, alienated. and i don't think this is necessarily a "war on terrorism," but rather a "war on afghanistan." at least that's what i got from his speech...

You know what's funny about that. This may sound like a conspiracy theory but it's true. Remember the contra scandal? Well Iran didn't have as much to do with it as Colombia. The CIA got drugs from Colombia, sold them in the cities(primarily to minorties) in order to stop a new generation from becoming leftist and the like. They had this happen with the Black Panther Party and they didn't want to happen again(Note the New Black Panthers are a joke. They just sully the name of the original Panthers). Then the government can bust the kids for drugs and put them in prison.

Rooster we can be united but there's no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to criticize the government for past actions. It's true. We have spent more money on the failed war on drugs than we have on the war on terrorism and let's face it, terrorism is more dangerous than drugs. Yet it wasn't on our soil, so not our problem. Drugs = big enemy on our mainland so we must do whatever we can to eradicate it...even if that means FUNDING TERRORISTS GROUPS!!!
Now I think we should 'stand' behind Bush since we very well can't change policy but it's our right to say what America has done wrong in the past
And yes, it's obvious that Bush set goals that no one can accomplish. George W. Bush, no president except for maybe Superman, would be able to eradicate terrorism from the globe. So while he did this to rally us and make us feel nicey nice, this 'plan' won't be a 100% success.

I've always liked America. In fact in light of the recent tragedy I've been moved by how people have persevered. But my complaints always go towards the government. In fact speaking out aganist your government is the patriotic thing to do. Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, etc. all said that dissidence is key in a democracy.
Example: My major complaint with our government is that it funds terroristic groups and governments at this very moment while denouncing it at the same time. This is a very hypocritical position for our government to take. We need to take a stand aganist terrorism whether if it state sponsored or perpetrated by the state itself.
