I got 2 of them!!

I spent 4 years in the United States Coast Guard...I was a crewman on a helicopter...I spent most of my carrer in the Pacific...We did alot of search and rescue...life on board ship was prettyl cool too!! I almost stayed in but I left to get married!

My first most favorite job was with the NYPD...I started out as a foot patrolman in the South Bronx.I worked hard for several years and wound up as a "white shield" in anti-crime..eventually I became a detective in OCCB...it was a strain on my marriage but my wife was stronger than me and helped me out whenever I needed it...I loved that job and sometimes wish I could go back to it!!

My first great job was making surfboards with a guy at a local surfshop. The pay sucked and I would go home everyday with fiberglass dust itching me everywhere but I got to surf all the time and hang out with girls in bikinis all day.

I worked as a kitchen designer for 2 years. I enjoyed that alot. Worked with alot of really cool people and it always felt good to help make someones home nicer.

My current job is running my own businees doing renderings and drafting for architects and designers. I make my own time and have to answer to nobody else. Its hard because the income isnt as steady as I would like it to be but I have good weeks and bad weeks. Its tough but Im really, really happy.

last two years i made over 40k, my Dad made 60k in 87and 88...

besides the good money the factory had stood since the 18 hundreds... i had close to 20 relatives work and retire from there with good names...

thankful for it and if it existed today i would rather be there making soap, or soappowder, or soapliquids, instead of working with modern technological computers and network equip...

Monster,

NEVER underestimate the value of your college education! I wish i went to college... Keep looking and it should land you a good paying job...

My grandad quit school in the 2nd Grade and my Dad in the 8th Grade. It's an accomplishment to me to have finished high school and hopefully my kids can complete college...

i could tell you so many good stories about working in the Colgate Plant... it was a job that's etched in my heart, so much history....

i wish i had a 'writers capability' it would lead to a best selling book... Lost are the days when a man or woman can make a good living working hard on a blue collar job...

my current one, an inspector with DHS. I like it. It's laid back most of the time. I set my own schedule, I generate my own caseload, and there's little pressure.

I guess I'll have to go with my newfound career in the USMC. I'm not really crazy about it right now, but it's just the only meaninful job I've ever had.

hopefully my kids can complete college

I tell you what. If you keep letting 'em hang out in the Explorer with Bobby Pants, Figgy, and Nogz at the softball games, getting them through college is gonna be the least of your worries. They'll have to get through rehab first.

I'm all for kids experimenting and testing boundaries and whatnot, but you can't just throw 'em in the deep end of the pool like that.

Its a toss up. One was a maintance guy at the town pool when i was 16. Pay sucked, but we basically hung out all day in the filter house and took turns playing video games and sleeping. We would bring the girls back there, shut the door and make out during the day. and at night we had the key and the alarm code, so we would go there and drink and smoke.

The other one was landscaping. i did this for 2 full summers and part of another. it was me and my best friend, and our boss was an alchoholic who never wanted to work. he gave us a list in the morning of where to go, a map, and 20 bucks for gas and just sent us on our way. we were 18 years old and basically running the buisness. he sat in the pool all day and drank. it was a great job because shit always changed. different weather, different people. just a lot of changes. Plus it was mindless. used to put on 102.7 on my headphones and just listen to that all day. that was the summer i got hooked on O&A. i was in great shape, tan, and had no responsibility. i would go home and party every night. go to work hung over. never mattered if i shaved or showered. very different than my desk job i have now. it was maybe the best summer of my life, looking back. a million parties, easy job with what i thought then was awesome pay, and really no adult worries. the biggest problems were waking up on time and getting beer underage.

Easy....Ice Cream Man @ the Jersey Shore. I was given the best route ever. Small, packed beach with summer rentals. New people (gals) every week. I think I fell in love 8 or 9 times that summer.

Would've kept it if my boss didn't tell me on July 31st, "I can't give you any days off the rest of the Summer" (happened to be the summer i was moving into college)

A typical day:

10:00 am go load the truck
12:00 walking on the beach with a 60 lbs. box of ice cream with dry ice.
5:00 break for dinner and sleep on the beach
7:00 pm drive around the beach houses and hang out with various families.
10pm leave for the night

12 hour days did get to be a bit much. 12 hours x 7 days a week = 84 hours a week....ugh.

Only days off were rainy ones. At least I had those Rainy Day Women.
