View Full Version : O&A - MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT - THIS THURSDAY

I had just realized the other day that it is in fact their own channel.
A lot of people were actually thinking they should be on XM 152, which is the "extreme talk" channel... and other than the Monsters of the Morning, there's nothing of note there.
I have a feeling the first show will go WAAAY over 4 hours! They've got so much to get off their chest at this point!
Yeah... who knows. They have a ton of flexibility. It's an exciting concept.
Speakin' of Eddie, he has Sat, Night Rocks on XM. Gotta feelin' that there will be some cross-over shows goin' on!
Does Eddie do the XM show from the Q104.3 studios?
That's the thing about XM... a ton of the programming comes from DC. A lot of other programming is streamed in from around the country. O&A are the first XM-only show that's based out of NYC, I believe.

What's weird is XM is the only advertiser on Howard's site. You would figure Sirius would take advantage.
Rumblings are that Sirius may not be able to afford him. They sold their financial soul to carry the NFL, and the dividends are nowhere near the number of subs that have come on board to XM since the announcement.
If you are to believe the "unofficial stats", there's a very good chance that XM has added 600K subscribers since August. Considering Sirius just hit 600K subs TOTAL, there's a major problem.

Maybe they gambled and found out that radio rights to the NFL is not the cash cow TV rights for the NFL are for DirecTV. Who the hell would pay to listen to NFL games when you can get the DTV for a few more $ a month?

I wouldn't go that far. Direct TV is a huge outlay of cash.
Figure the equipment...
Re-wiring your house...
Buying the package...
etc. etc.
I dunno. I like listening to football on the radio, but since I'm a Jets fan, I'm pretty well covered.

Three specials right now - Roady for 49 dollars, XM Commander for 49 dollars, and the boombox with receiver for 99 bucks.
All are SUBSTANTIAL savings over buying them retail - the catch is that you have to buy three months of service in advance.
For the boombox, the total price is STILL cheaper than buying it retail.
The boombox deal is GREAT if you want to upgrade to the Skyfi2 in a few months. I'm seriously thinking about getting a boombox, even with my ghetto setup.

Please help, only 2 more weeks till oand a and I'm out in the cold.
What and how much do I need to get an xm radio?
$2 a month for o and a.
$10 a month.
Then I'm lost; all I want is to listen in my house, not in the car. what else do I need to get to hook it up in my house (I assume the boom box, can I hook it up to my reciever I use to hook up my speakers to my dvd,tape deck, tv?)

I knew it would be some discount. It figures.
My "Boombox" just arrived yesterday! Oh well.
You can only use it as a boombox. You can buy a car adapter or a home stereo adapter, for like $60 a piece, which I'll probably do down the road.
The sound is pretty good (not enough bass for my taste) and there is plenty to choose from. It also has a headphone jack.
I've only got a few preset so far, but I'm lovin' that they have a "prog-rock" station (ch. 51)!

There's a thread called "What's Your XM Setup" that has a lot of good information on it. Mostly by me, but that's besides the point.

That would be correct. Remember, after you get the boombox, you have to call XM back to order O&A separately.
When you order the Boombox bundle, it will automatically tack on three months of service for 30 bucks.
Once you get your boombox bundle and you know your radio's ID, you have to call or go online and order O&A.

O&A Ungagged
XM Live - XM 200
All Day - Friday, Saturday, Sunday
America's Most Dangerous Twosome tell their side of the story at XM's Performance Theater. An uncensored, totally raw and personal rant on their hilariously checkered past and a preview of the insanity planned on their XM Debut. Joined by a theater full of fans, this show is one brilliantly bizarre look at these lovingly warped pop icons as XM takes off the gag and lets the boys rock.
Good marketing strategy... but I'm wary of listening to this show, rather than getting "fresh" O&A on 10/4.
This was pre-recorded, it was the event Silent was talking about before.
It'll be interesting...

An uncensored, totally raw and personal rant
i'm curious ...
it's probably a given that they'll use the seven forbidden words, and a host of compound prases, to pepper their language ...
but, what happens if an ignorant caller drops the 'n-word,' or if anthony calls a woman a twat, cunt, bitch or whore ...
are there controls to dump out a caller that they might not want on the air (website or another radio show) ...
o/a were really good at pushing the lines of good taste and still be funny, but sometimes callers can be less tactful and blunt ... you even hear it on stern or old ron & fez shows with callers using racial humour in poor taste ...
this is not a criticism of o/a, just more will there controls be to filter content ...

This Ungagged thing will not be on Live 200. They said it would be on a bunch of stations at assorted times. (Ethel, Squizz, Lucy, etc.) I'm not sure of the specifics, go to Opie and Anthony.com or Foundry. I'm way too lazy right now to link. Just remember, it won't be on XM Live.
EDIT: It premieres at 7PM on XM Comedy 150. Then at 10:00 that night Sit down Stand up with Jim Norton premieres.
I even got a link. (http://www.xmsatelliteradio.com/programming/programming_main.jsp)

I just ordered the "Roadie". I got a deal for being on there mailing list. I was able to order it for only $49.99. Not bad considering that they get $99.99 in Best Buy. But, you have to pay the $7.50 shipping. But, for some reason, tax was $2.50, which is 5 bux cheaper then if I bought it in the store.

This thing had BETTER get good reception at the office on Monday.
Anyone getting channel 202 yet? I signed up and I'm still not getting it. I already tried refreshing my radio online and that didn't work. I hate calling customer service, but I want to make sure I have this working Monday morning.

I signed up for 202 on XM's website while I was waiting to receive the activation signal, and it popped up on my boombox about an hour later. They even sent me an email saying "sorry for the delay."
I originally thought that the High Voltage channel came with the bundle offer, but when I noticed it wasn't mentioned on my billing info, I just went ahead and ordered it online after hooking up my stuff.

I havent heard a second of either Sirius or XM yet. I'm gonna check the systems out this week, but addressing the 'commercials' ssue here's a 100% naive guess, but it's happened before with other media.
Like people said, even with no commercials, breaks have to be taken, IDs, legal, whatever. Well even 'commercial free' cable channels can still hit you with a Ton of Ads about other shows on said channel. Since theyre advertisising their own thing on their own channel, it might amount to a shitload of promos about that chennal, or a bunch of promos for other channels.
And thats a 100% guess.

Maybe doing something like playing some music or some old highlight clips..
They were using comedy bits for the first two breaks. The first one was Carlin, the second break was Dice. They mentioned having no present sponsors, but they have PSA to run at some point, but I haven't heard any of those yet, but I've been in & out of the show.
DAMN! It's 8:55am & they're just getting around to spewing a little venom on Howard & I'm at work.

They were talking like there is going to be commercials.
I think the teasing of the commercials is just to put the audience on. I think they know they'll have a riot on their hands if they are paying for radio AND getting commercials.
But then, I would have thought they would have the studio ready to go and all the drops in place. I mean, they only had two months. Silly me.
I can't hear the show now, but the mic levels and everything today sounded AWFUL. Opie needs to run a tighter board or someone has to speak the hell up. Norton.

Hmmmm...telling, now that they have gone to XM and revamped their website (now "powered by Foundry Music), that they have removed Ron and Fez (which was really a link back to this message board) from their official links of "Friends of the Show."
With friends like these... (http://www.opieandanthony.com)
And, yes, I realize that it's because R&F haven't mentioned them or promoted them (because of Infinity and the gag order) since they left the airwaves.

Don't you think it might be more of a legal issue with having a link to something having to do with an Infinity property? They mentioned in their "Ungagged" interview on XM that they still love & talk to Ron & Fez, but that they couldn't appear on each others' show because of R&F's employers being Infinity. They said they would appear on the Ron & Fez show anytime if it was only up to Ron, Fez, Opie, & Anthony. But that it wasn't just up to them. Ant likened it to robbing a bank, "...then you don't go back in there & try to open an account just because you're friendly with a couple of the tellers." (loosely quoted)
~~~~~~~~~~~
- As for the highlights of the show, they started off with how the new studio is still in shambles.
- The one & only sound bite Ant has on his machine is the Arnold "Dillon!" quote.
- Steve C is in a bulletproof glass booth that makes the guys want to give him an afro wig & paint him in blackface.
- O&A have a martial artist/bodyguard in the studio
- Lady Di & Marion were re-introduced to the world
- Patti was on the phone
- The quote about Howard's daughter was that she had "those big Jew titties that make you just wanna slap it in between and..." and that "...Karma is a bitch."
- the early callers had nothing to offer, but love to curse
- Frenchy is equally funny with or without cursing for the first 15 seconds of a phonecall, but not even the ability to drop the f-bomb helps him to remain interesting beyond that length of time.
Nope. You don't have to get permission from someone to link to their website.
And espeically since the link they used to have for Ron and Fez was for this particular message board - a board that is not officially tied w/ R&F (and not under control of Infinity), but is a board that still devotes a lot of space promoting O&A.
Curtoid you're wrong on this. On the XM ungagged or that party show whichever it was that was played on XM that I had heard over the weekend, one of the listeners brought up Ron and Fez and not only did they say "Ron and Fez rock" but they also had a lot of really cool things to say about them, that they're still tight to this day. I don't have XM myself yet, but I did hear it through the reciever that Amy has. The two shows are still cool with each other.
In fact one of the listeners asked them if they would be doing AFRO shows and I believe it was Anthony who said it didn't sound like it was legally possible so I don't think so, but that doesn't mean they aren't still close. Plus they're still redoing the website. Just because the link isn't up now, doesn't mean it won't be back up at some point.
All I said was that they were not linking back to this message board like they used to; that it seemed like they paired back on those that they were considering "Friends of the Show."
I know they still must like R&F (although I doubt the seriousness in them being as "tight" as they ever were, if they rely on Brother Joe to call up with veiled information, but hey - I listen too close and often get things wrong - ha!), and it's awesome that they still mention R&F when they can, because I know that if situations were reversed, R&F would do the same without hesitation or qualifiers.
Plus they're still redoing the website. Just because the link isn't up now, doesn't mean it won't be back up at some point.
Well...hopefully that will happen.
As much as this site, and YMB, does to promote O&A I just would be surprised if they don't link back.
I don't know if O&A mentioned them on today's show, but whatever show that was that I heard them on they sure sounded sincere to me.
My take on R&F not talking about O&A I think has more to do with Ron and Fez taking the safe route and staying quiet. I think that they see their show being syndicated to three markets now and hopefully more, so they're likely just keeping their mouths shut and not rocking the boat. Though about a month ago Ron and Fez made a reference to O&A on the air which was the first time I had heard that since they got to DC. I also seem to remember that they have the same agent, I don't know that means anything, but my take on the two shows relationships with one another was that they are completely cool with each other.
Well, after I was able to get some sleep now, I'm far less negative about it. It was disappointing that they were late and sloppy. I'm not sure if its XM's or O&A's problem, but either way I'm paying for this now so I got a right to complain.
That being said, still an entertaining show. Loved how they savaged Howard. Great stuff. I thoguht when they were having mic problems in the beginning they were about to pull that gag where they talk low and then blast that Alice in Chains song, but I think they're smart enough not to start off at 6 a.m. with that, yet. Frenchy dropping c-bombs all over the place was great. Too early for Patty or the retarded Laverne and Shirley. Norton was on fire. I was hoping for more dirt, but they're smart enough not to give all that stuff away too fast. From now on I'm gonna catch the afternoon replays. This is too early.
Personally, I think OnA just shot themselves in the foot.
They just get back on the air, UNCENSORED, with the freedom to talk aboot anything they want, after years of hiatus, and all they can do is a 10 minute rant on HOWARD STERN?!
That's creative? That's groundbreaking?!
That's lame.
To top it all off, OnA (and their fans) are the 1st to say that OnA are NOT ripping off Howard but, in the clip I just listened to OnA compare themselves to Stuttering John at the Billy Crystal press conference.
I used to like their show back in 99. They just got too big, and too arrogant, too quickly. Sterns show doesnt make me laugh anymore either. Either I'm outgrowing that ("shock")format, or that format simply can't sustain itself.
So I was browsing around looking for pics of Howard's daughter that Anthony was mentioning this morning and went to the Stern Board to see if there were pics and to see what the O & A feedback was there. First off, I couldn't find the pics and second off I found it strange that there were XM Banners on his site as well. Especially with O & A being on XM now you would think Stern wouldn't advertise for their new station. Unless of course XM has always been a sponsor. Come to think of it, I don't think Infinity even runs the Stern site. Who knows.
I know XM has been a sponsor of his radio show (not sure about right this minute, but as recently as a month ago they were), and as far as sponsors of the website both XM and Sirrus are rotated through - at least in the past.
I just don't think Howard sees O&A as that big of a threat. That said, I also don't think that, deep down, he has anything against them working and making a living.
From DCRTV (http://www.dcrtv.com)
O&A Now Rated X On XM - 10/5 - Radio "bad boys" Opie and Anthony debuted on DC's XM Satellite Radio Monday to "a college radio station" sized audience. According to the NY Daily News, not being on FCC-regulated "free" radio, the duo and their callers had the freedom to say a whole batch of cool "four-letter expletives." And talk about sex. And more sex. Like inserting "a Wiffle bat... somewhere dark and deep." Also, O&A blasted Howard Stern as a "whining hypocrite" and jested about the physical assets of one of Stern's daughters. They reiterated that the "Sex For Sam" sex-in-a-church contest that got them booted in 2002 from Infinity (and DC's WJFK-FM) wasn't nearly the outrage it was portrayed to be. And suggested that they might expand the idea "into the Muslim world" and do "Sex for Allah." Oh, they called DC "Chocolate City." More at xmradio.com.....
Wow...sorry I missed that.
Daily News article (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/ent_radio/story/238895p-204824c.html)
Launching what will doubtless be a string of complaints about their employer, Opie noted XM's main facility in Washington, D.C., is in a rough section he called "Chocolate City."
Pussy! haha. That area of New York avenue is far from the roughest section of the District.
Besides, from the way I understand it, Perrynoid's hatred for O&A predates them even becoming a team and going on the radio - maybe even as far back as when Marconi, or even Tesla, invented radio (!!!), so he can get grandfathered in with his hatred.
Those that want to bash O&A for being critical of Howard clearly have no idea of everything that went down. O&A were silenced by Howard and they have every right to be mad at him. After all this time they are free to speak their minds and their listeners wanted the fully skinny on everything that went down. Now we're getting it. If Howards fans can't take it that the man who pretends to be for free speech only believes it pertains to him then they need to wake up. I was a huge Howard fan long before his books and movies, he's completely a hypocrit and a 180§ from the broadcaster he used to be. Which isn't to say he doesn't have a right to evolve his show, but he does it and then is critical of others for their own things and acts like every other show is copying him.
Perhaps they went a little too far on his daughters, but as far as being critical of the things he did to silence their show and even mentioning his show on the air, it's all fair game now and about time it be told.
I don't know about the others on the board, but I would love it if there was an O&A Show feedback forum or general discussion since they are broadcasting back into New York again. I mean, a lot of the O&A message boards have a forum for Ron and Fez fans. I think it would be great to have something here for the O&A show. I know they have a million boards out there, but a lot of people here mostly just hang out here. It could keep all the O&A threads to one area. Just a thought.
Reefy - I don't want to get into a thing about O&A (with you or anyone); I do have to question how thin skinned O&A fans are, however. Not you, but there are folks who love to bash other shows, but then get VERY defensive over the slightest brush or unimplied slight.
Those that want to bash O&A for being critical of Howard clearly have no idea of everything that went down.
Ok...who did that exactly?
I jokingly called Opie a Pussy for being afraid of the "black" section of Washington, and Perrynoid called them "pussies" because he always has.
And, for the record (and not meaning to speak for Perry), but I think if your message was directed at us, then you are mistaken to assume that neither of us don't already know the complex histories of how all of these shows are inter-twined.
The real truth of what went down (which you won't be getting from Howard or O&A) is that it had less to do with O&A and more to do with Infinity; the power plays they were pulling behind the scenes, in moves that were always set up to keep Stern in place. He flexed back by "silencing" O&A.
Not to excuse him, but the issues are far more complicated than what has been played out over the radio, on message boards or in the media.
Perhaps they went a little too far on his daughters, but as far as being critical of the things he did to silence their show and even mentioning his show on the air, it's all fair game now and about time it be told.
Since I don't listen to O&A, and since I'm not a member of Howard's family, their comments about Howard's daughter has no effect on me or my life what so ever. It's pretty obvious, though, that they are going over the top (even pointing it out at Foundry in case you missed the shocking details) in hope of getting Howard's attention, in a hope to raise the awareness of their show.
Still, how would they feel/react, however, if Don and Mike (a show THEY look down on) decided to begin doing bits about Opie's dead family members???
Hey here's an idea - Maybe give Ron and Fez a forum within this message board for people who can listen to them in the cities they are on, and that way the O&A fans can take over the rest of the board!
Problem solved.
Actually Curtoid, my comments weren't directed towards you or Perry. I also wasn't commenting on what Opie said about DC. I just think that people who want to jump on them for being critical of Howard need to know where they're coming from. I have no doubt you or Perry know.
As for the truth of what went down between O&A or Howard, I'm certainly not the kind of guy who's trying to bring one show's fans against the other. My feeling is that Howard got his chance to say whatever he wanted to about O&A after they went off the air. They were always shut up from being able to comment, so I believe they have a right to say whatever they want from their point of view. Granted both or neither of these shows may be telling the truth but it's nice to be able to hear both sides of it.
I also want to clear up any idea that I'm anti Howard, I'm not. I am critical of the shows he does now because I found his older shows funny, however I don't take anything away from him for making his shows however he wants them to be.
As for your comments on the board about people in other cities, I don't exactly get it. I mean there is and has always been a General Forum and Feedback forum that listeners to the show can comment on what goes on over the airwaves. Why those listeners don't participate on the board is a whole different thing. I don't see people from NY stomping all over them. If anything this board is pretty welcoming of new folks in comparison to other boards. I wish more folks from DC, Baltimore, Florida, and wherever else would participate. I think it would be great.
I was joking - sorry I forgot a little winking yellow circle thing.
This is very true, although I think there was a time when it wasn't as inviting, and that reputation may have stuck w/ some. Doesn't explain Baltimore or Tampa, but hey - they are still finding their listeners in all three cities.
I wish more folks from DC, Baltimore, Florida, and wherever else would participate. I think it would be great.
I mean, a lot of the O&A message boards have a forum for Ron and Fez fans.
They do?
I only found one, and it had zero posts in it. The rest usually just link to this site, if that.
Besides, there's probably at least a dozen open O&A threads here.
If Howards fans can't take it that the man who pretends to be for free speech only believes it pertains to him then they need to wake up. I was a huge Howard fan long before his books and movies, he's completely a hypocrit and a 180§ from the broadcaster he used to be. Which isn't to say he doesn't have a right to evolve his show, but he does it and then is critical of others for their own things and acts like every other show is copying him.
AMEN Brother! Testify! I am totally with you on this one, and have been saying this for a long time. Yes I still listened to Howard from time to time, only because he was the ONLY person on worth listening to.
When O & A came out they actually thanked Howard Stern for breaking the ground for everyone else to do what they can do.
Sounds like to me Howard was afraid that O&A were the only serious threat to him and could quite possibly take away his audience.
Karma IS a bitch.
I do have to question how thin skinned O&A fans are, however. Not you, but there are folks who love to bash other shows, but then get VERY defensive over the slightest brush or unimplied slight.
Very true cutoid. WAYYY back when, at the B.A.N.O.F. II when I first met all of you (and you all still regret it to this day!) I was sitting at the diner with many people including some BIG ass moron named Kev or something. This was WAY before the O&A vs. Don & Mike fued. I mentioned how...at the time, Don and Mike were having better radio then O & A, just for the moment that is. But overall D & M could not touch O & A for great radio. He actually threatened me with violence because he was SO offended. It is almost like we are not allowed to think O & A can have bad shows.
Funny thing is...witchout the O & A show he is just a fat bastard with no life.
At least them getting kicked off of radio had ONE good effect.
Perrynoid called them "pussies" because he always has.
I called them pussies for having a karate man in the studio with them.
But you are right Curtoid, I have always called them pussies.
They ARE pussies. They are pissed at Howard because Howie told their boss to shut up and not mention his name...AND THEY LISTENED!!!!
They should be mad at themselves- for bowing down like good little bitches and doing what Stern told them to do. Do u think Mel would listen to one of Opies demands?
I like the Ron and Fez show & The Hideout because they don't talk about this petty shit on their shows.
Some of us dig O&A and some of hate them.
I hate them for being lazy radio. They only went after stern to get noticed. THATS lazy.
Some shows don't need to pick fights.
I don't know why... but I think I expected more from these lightweight twirps.
And another thing...
All these folks saying Stern aint who he used to be.
DUH.
It's called change & growth.
Why do the same show for 20 years? He could be lazy like O&A and do the same thing over and over and over and over and over.. but why?
The radio is full of 3rd rate stern clones TRYING to do what he was doing in the 80's and 90's.
He was smart enough to change it up a bit.
and it still works for him.
Do you care to compare his fan base with o&a's?
His media coverage? His draw w/ live events?
His bank account? His reputation?
Maybe if O&A threw us a curve ball once in a while, instead of being predictable as they always are, they might...MIGHT get one or 2 new listeners.
I'm aware of that. That's why I said the following things...
I am critical of the shows he does now because I found his older shows funny, however I don't take anything away from him for making his shows however he wants them to be.
Which isn't to say he doesn't have a right to evolve his show
I applaud any show that can grow as time goes on. The R&F show in DC isn't same show that was on in NY, it's evolved and somewhat adapted to it's newer audiences as well as politics of today. I think it's a smarter show in many ways. I give Howard a lot of credit for taking his shows into new directions. Though I don't find his shows as funny as they used to be, but that's just my opinion.
I'd say on balance as the three shows go, R&F, O&A, and Howard that R&F to me is the most grown up and mature, in that the hosts are smart, and they stay above the fray, except for their little spat with Eddie Trunk in NY. :)
You're missing the point. Crossing the line is good when it's FUNNY. Not when it's purely for the sake of "crossing the line". There is nothing funny about "interviewing Opie's dead dad". That's purely shock value and to me, that's worthless and pathetic. And no, it's not fair game. That's a man's father.
I'd be a liar if I said I haven't thought about this.
I have much respect for the R&F show. They have always been kind & cool to me and allowed me to plug my show/site.
Out of respect for Ron , I would consider trashing the bit.
The point of the bit is to show that there IS a line.
That things said on a radio show (even a fake one)
can hurt others. Opie and Anthony in my eyes are cruel, no talent scum fuckers who laugh at people's pain. Their fans think it's great radio until the tables are turned on them.
I do not have the same connection some of you have with opie. To me, he's fair game. His emotions and feelings are fair game. And for christs sake, nobody is listening to my show anyway so who cares?! It's not like I have a college size following. So will I do the bit??
I was talking about the bit they did during their NEW days where they acted like they were fueding like O&A were at the time. I don't remember if it was Don & Mike or Howard who O&A were fighting with at the time, but Ron and Fez came on the air that night after O&A's show and acted like they also had a problem with a WNEW program. Eddie Trunks show. I was just making a small reference to that bit.
Perry, people say you have talent. However much I tend to doubt it, they can't all be wrong.
Use your limited power for good, not evil. Don't be EXACTLY the type of host you are alledgedly rallying against. Get some good material, and do a good show. Good luck, and GFY.
PS Cherrynoid, its nice to see you back up your man. However wrong you might b e in what you say, its nice to see you stand up for him. Behind every fucked up lunatic man, is a good woman.
after a few month on XM, i'm just curious to catch an opinion or two of O/A's current show ...
is the tone/pace similiar to the last days of WNEW, or have they totally re-imaged the show ...?
Man - that is one thing I am jealous of - I can't even imagine how great it would be if Ron and Fez were allowed that kind of freedom. WJFK set the bar so LOOONG years ago, following Stern's lead, and then eventually it carried over to all the shows now - everyone breaks for about about 20 minutes per hour, which just blows.
Not only that, but unlike their WNEW tenure, they don't seem to be given nearly as much leeway with the length of their segments. At WNEW, if a topic got rolling, they would be able to extend a segment to the 40-60 minute range (of course the negative of this would be the buildup of commercials (and longer commercial breaks) that would occur if this was done). WJFK appears to be much more regimented, because almost without fail, every 4 hour R&F show is 8 segments and every 6 hour R&F show was 6 segments (ignoring the "fastest hour" period when they would do 4 rapid-fire segments in an hour.) Almost all segments fall in the 18-26 minute range as well. Regardless of where they end up, I'd love to see R&F get a little more freedom in the way that they structure their show.
The show doesn't have the same vibe, but there's still quite a bit of the funny. I tune in every day and try to catch as much of the 4 hours I can during the midday replay.
I prefer O&A's current XM show. I do miss Beuer and Mohr.
They usually don't get going until about 30-60 mins in since it's early in the morning and they usual have issues to deal with at that point (Anthony's hearphones don't seem to ever work right at first) I think Jim has the right idea by walking in a few minutes after they start.
I do think the shows suffer without Jim, They are still good but I love the dynamic with all 3 there.
I may sound like an O&A apologist, but I'm so glad they are back, I can't listen to anything else in the mornings besides XM.
I'm not a big fan of the Ultra-cringe moments, so during the Tawny Peaks phone call today, I could flip around.
My thoughts...
The Freedom of XM has helped them immensely.
Anthony doesn't do as many impressions as he used to, but he friggin' nails the ones he does do.
I miss the Reagan bits, I miss him doing Sharpton, I miss a few others.
He did slip into Heston during the Chimp Attack bit, which was welcomed.
(If Heston has Althzeimers, can't O&A do a phone call bit with Ant-As-Heston similar with what they did with Reagan?)
"I CRAPPED MY PANTS! DAMN YOU!!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!"
I don't like O&A complaining. I noticed that Opie does most of the complaining, and when Ant complains, it's usually for a legitimate reason.
The XM show is very different from the WNEW show. Both Op and Anthony are both very different from the way they were and as a result the show is different and I think it's for the better as well.
When the show gets moved off the premium channel in April it should get quite interesting.
The show is even different from the first month compared to now. I think corporate laid down some rules and told them to shape up and they will drop the premium. There is def. less sex on the show, not as many sex breaks per week. They are still funny, but MUCH more topical than the older WNEW show. they pretty much are talking current events everyday since they are on in the morning.
I would love to hear them again in the afternoons, but i doubt it will ever happen. Jim norton has been wonderful on the show. Of course there are things that could be changed. I am 100% opposite tenbats on this one. I love the bitching, and I do not like the impressions as much as I used to. I am sick of hearing all the same ones, and I never liked the nixon or heston voices just because i could care less about those 2 individuals. But that is just a perfect example of why people listen. they do different things that appeal in different ways to people.
I am glad the sex is out of the show. I never got sex on the radio. And I am glad they cut back on the stunts, although the Egg Nog Challenge and Cherry Darts were good.
I love the new direction of the show. More funny and more of it. And although I agree with Tenbats on the cringe interviews, I do like them sometimes. I did tune out of that Porn Star interview today, but the Dick Vitale interview was great. Norton asking the same question over and over was priceless.
I agree completely. I did listen to the porn star interview though I didn't really find it all that funny. Not nearly as funny as the Dick Vitale interview BABY!!
I also thought it was ironic that Opie was talking about losing his passion for doing radio, but then went into the Vitale interview where you could just tell he was really enjoying himself.
In all fairness, Opie did preface that by saying that losing his father is what helped contribute to him "not having fun"... which I can completely and totally understand.
