My only question is this:

Will the whole movie be on ONE disc. There was nothing more annoying than having to FLIP over the disc and watcht he last half of the movie. Now isn't the technology there to fit the entire movie on to one disc now? I sure hope so.

Is the original 2 sided? I think it is, and it drives me NUTS. I never buy special editions, but I may get this one just to have the one sided DVD.

Yes. Goodfellas was literally one of the very first DVDs released and they didn't have compression down like they do now.

A movie has to be really long with mulitlple soundtracks and commentaries to be on more than one disc (like the Lord of the Rings Extended Cuts: 3«-4 hours long with 4 commentary tracks, DTS 5.1, DD 5.1 and DD 2.0 tracks. While the regular cuts, which are long movies already, fit on one disc, one side)

I have the original, and it has two sides because the whole thing couldn't fit on one disk. I do hope this new special edition has the whole movie on one side.

I could swear we've had a thread on this before, but I can't find it. I recall a running gag "My dvd starts at X scene" and the response being "Weird, mine starts at scene X."

(Sorry, I don't own Goodfellas, so I don't know which scene is the cut-off)

I think Goodfellas: Flipper Edition cuts it at the scene when Spider has his foot banaged up from being shot by Tommy:

Spider: "Why don't you go fuck yourself, Tommy?"
[stunned silence]
Jimmy: "WHOA! I don't believe what I'm hearing! Check out the BALLS on this kid! Hey Spider, this is for you! [tosses money on the table] That's the way! You don't take no shit from nobody!"

I love that movie!

Yep; Goodfellas and also, The Right Stuff, I have the copies with 'SIDE A' and 'SIDE B'.

For the Trivia Heads, The Right Stuff, at least the one I bought, splits where they alternate shots of John Glenn and a Chimp riding the Centrifuge and the Overdub is something like 'Who will be first into space?'

I'm not sure if it was compression, or the dual-layer, single sided discs came out; hence that single little tiny pause many long movies get on DVD; the layer change.

IM STILL GONNA GO OUT, KAREN ! ! !

I never realized that when Henry and Karen do that famous Copacabana Entance and walk through the kitchen, they make a circle though the kitchen to make the entrance longer.

I never bought the initial DVD edition solely because of the "flip." Thank CHRIST this is coming out.

Best of all, it's all part of a big push to get Scorsese's films cleaned up and given the big DVD pushes they deserve. I'm buying this new "Goodfellas" DVD as part of THIS...

I can't WAIT until they get to "Raging Bull," as that it's been out of print as a bare-bones DVD for a few years now.

Two other great movies out-of-print, hopefulyl signifying they'll get an upgrade? "Heat" and "Short Cuts."

They did a Kick-Ass job on Scorcese's 'The Last Waltz', while that's more concert movie/documentary then his other work, the new DVD and CD set astound.

He knew it, even for a concert film, if you want that 'at the concert feel' you gotta get the big expensive 35mm cameras and lenses and film, and sheesh that DVD is one of the most 'Immediate' Concerts, in terms of putting you at the show, I've seen.

And you didnt buy it coz of the Flip? You didnt suffer through the LaserDisc years, then. My God the money I spent buying, watching, and eBaying That Format.

I spent the extra and got a double sided laser disk player, meaning my trips to get up and flip were reduced by 1/2. well worth the money
