My favorite memory of her was when she got drunk and put her glasses in the blender. Definitely one of the best television personalities ever. I will drink tonight in her memory, then try to debone a chicken.

I'm sure she will be garnished with praise, and perhaps a sprig or two of parsley.

I had no clue she outlived the dead half of The Two Fat Ladies.

This isn't cool, especially since it should be the Frugal Gourmet rotting in Hell.

Big props to Ms. Child who did some nice work & had a good run to 91 (especially w/ cancer for the last few decades).

I think I'll go to a nice restaurant and have some coq au vin in her honor this weekend.

And I say coq au vin not to be a francophile, but because the English translation - cock with wine - sounds a little too Jersey-style these days, if you know what I mean. & I think that you do.

1 hour at 2100 degrees F or 1 1/2 hours at 1400 degrees F.

Of course, this doesn't allow for time spent basting or whether or not aluminum foil is used.

James Beard died in 1985. This mean you hope Jamie Oliver dies in 19 years?

I think it's great she ate the most horribly fatty foods and lived to a tender old age of 91.

That woman put so much butter in her cooking I thought she was gonna have a coronary at the end of every show...

And so the August death tour for little old famous ladies curtoid has met rolls on...firts Fay Wray, now Julia Child.

I actually got to meet here two years ago, on her 90th birthday when I was working at NMAH. She had actually donated her kitchen to the museum and there was a very large reception with all the top chefs in DC. It was a blast - one of the nicest hoity toity reception.

I had no clue, until I saw the news tonight, that before she was a chef she was an honest-to-God SPY.

I'm not 100% sure but I think she has denied those rumors. It is kind of cool to think that she was.

I have tons of respect for what she did in help putting PBS on the map. She viewed what she was doing as a public service, which is why she didn't make a habit out of endorsing any product, and those that she may have mentioned by name on her show were never ones they she got paid for - she never did commercials.

If any one is in DC, the Julia Child Kitchen exhibit is really nice.

I heard this on OTL yesterday afternoon and when Miles said she would be processed and then laid out nicely on top of a tart cake I damn near crashed the car.

The Dan Aykroyd bit was what I remember the most though.

From an NPR article.

Decades before becoming a famous chef, she worked for the Office of Strategic Services. (The OSS was the predecessor to the CIA.) She was assigned to solve a problem for U.S. naval forces during World War II: Sharks would bump into explosives that were placed underwater, setting them off and warning the German U-boats they were intended to sink.

"So... Julia Child and a few of her male compatriots got together and literally cooked up a shark repellent," that was used to coat the explosives, McCarthy says.

The entire article. (http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/features/2002/apr/spies/)

They are quite a refreshing mix and the Old Bay flavor is kind of neat. It would be cool to see them get down in DC now.

Actually this is getting way off topic:

.AND we just put the baby into the oven with a little GAHnish and dash of paprika and set to cook at 350 or until screaming.

Since WJFK isn't going to give the midday spot to R&F, I would love it if they put these guys on 11am - 3pm too (http://www.live1057.com/out_to_lunch.html?theshow=otl)

Actually, looking at the "Live 105" website, R&F need to be getting a little more love from the webmaster than they are currently getting. Not only are they not on the little left side montage of pictures with the rest of the line up, but when they slapped together the R&F page they obviously just cut and pasted the template from Don and Mike's page, because the actual name of the page, from the meta tags, says "Don and Mike."

Grrrrr!
