August 16th 1977. I was digging around Goggle and found this one from the day after he died:
Washington Post Excerpts:
Elvis Presley, who revolutionized American popular music with his earthy singing style and became a hero to two generations of rock 'n' roll fans, died yesterday in Memphis, Tenn. He was 42.
Shelby County Medical Examiner Dr. Jerry Francisco said last night an autopsy indicated Presley died of a "severely irregular heartbeat" and "just another name for a form of heart attack." He said the three-hour autopsy uncovered no sign of any other diseases -- though Presley had in recent years been treated at Baptist Memorial Hospital for hypertension, pneumonia and an enlarged colon -- and there was no sign of any drug abuse.
[read that last line again. I did.]
-
Overall, he sold more than 500 million records worldwide and made 33 films. He was a millionaire many times over and lived in a style that reflected it: ensconced in his Graceland Mansion behind locked gates, like the reclusive characters in "Citizen Kane," handing out jewels and Cadillacs to friends and even casual acquaintances.
[reading the next part tripped me out. Holy Time Warp.]
"The King is dead," said former Beatle John Lennon last night. "But rock 'n' roll will never die. Long live the King."
"His music was the only thing exclusively ours," said Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys. "His wasn't my and mom and dad's music. His voice was a total miracle in the music business."
The White House said last night that President Carter will "probably issue a statement on Presley today."
No arrangements have been announced yet for Presley's funeral.

So that means the Don and Mike show will feature more Elvis impressions and stories then usual.
May 25 1977 Star Wars is released. Elvis didn't get to see Empire Stikes Back (may have too messed up to see Star Wars, although many people liked to get messed up to see Star Wars or 2001)
and there was no sign of any drug abuse.
:quest: There were signs of it on TV and in concert. I guess they wouldn't accepts any sign short of a needle sticking out of his arm or the bottle of pills in his cold dead hands.
Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant shit to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Mother fuck him and John Wayne

"Elvis Presley is the king, I was at his crowning.
My life just passed before my eyes, I must be drowning."
-Phil Ochs
just to continue the tribute by dead music makers.

I was thinkin last night about Elvis
that he died, that he died.
I was thinkin last night about Elvis
that he died, that he died.
Just a country boy, comed his hair,
put on a shirt his Momma made
and he went on the air
and he shook it like a chorus girl
he shook it like a Harlem queen
he shook it like a Midnight rambler, baby
like you'd never seen
like you'd never seen. Gillian Welch--"Elvis Presley Blues"

The "Death Day Show" is better than the "Birthday Show".

There must be lights burning brighter somewhere
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue
If I can dream of a better land
Where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true
There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong winds of promise that will blow away
The doubt and fear
If I can dream of a warmer sun
Where hope keeps shining on everyone
Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear
We're lost in a cloud
With too much rain
We're trapped in a world
That's troubled with pain
But as long as a man
Has the strength to dream
He can redeem his soul and fly
Deep in my heart there's a trembling question
Still I am sure that the answer, answer's gonna come somehow
Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle
And while I can think, while I can talk
While I can stand, while I can walk
While I can dream, please let my dream
Come true, right now
Let it come true right now
Oh yeah

Because he's alive!!! Alive I tell you!!!
GRACELAND by Dan Bern
Mississippi Delta shining like a National guitar
Paul Simon wrote that song about Graceland while driving in his car
Mark Cohn wrote that other one
It was a big hit it made Mark Cohn real
I'm walking in Memphis do I really feel the way I feel?
Well look at me Lord I am at Graceland
On a Saturday afternoon
I threw up last night at a rest stop
From eating cheese grits at the Waffle House
I felt like hell then, I feel all right now
I am at Graceland and I feel all right
I know that Graceland has sacred meaning
Deep, deep meaning for lots of people
For me it don't mean all that much
Okemah means more that's
Woody Guthrie's home
I don't have shrines to Elvis Presley
On the dashboard of my RV
I haven't spotted Elvis lately
In the tool section of the Wal-Mart
But I travel around the country
Playing my guitar for whoever will listen
So I'm at Graceland,
I am at Graceland
I am at Graceland and I feel all right
He had the coolest shoes
He had the coolest hair
He sang the coolest songs
He made the coolest movies
He moved his hips like wheat fields waving
He was even cool in the army
Well look at me Lord I am at Graceland ...

I just find it freaky there were originally two Elvises out there.
Anyone know if his dead twin was identical?
And WHY is the "Aron" still spelled as "Aaron?"
