Bring back the View Askew movie characters like Jay, Silent Bob, Brodie, Dante, and Randal for one big movie based on all the characters he did sans the ones that had multiple parts?

Well, he already kinda is.

"Clerks 2: Hardly Clerkin'," an animated film reuniting the cast of his first movie (plus Jason Lee), has been "official" for over a year now.

Sadly, I don't think Kevin has anywhere to go but back to the characters that gave him a name. Even he's said he's scared to direct a bigger budgeted movie again after what happened to Jersey Girl. As proof he's even pulled off of directing the upcomming Hornet movie (though he's still writing it).

Well, from what I understand, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was supposed to be his last hurrah with the characters. The studio wanted him to do a big budget movie with all his principle characters, so he did it, but intentionally did it poorly as sort of an F You to the studio. Can't confirm any of this, so belive me. Believe everything I tell you. Forever.

In addition to the animated movie, Kev said last week that he may do one more live action View Askewniverse movie for Jay Mewes.

He's been saying it'll be after he gets this "Fletch" movie done.
After he finishes his comic books, Fletch, Green Hornet, some short films, a few more shorts for Jay Leno, a sandwich...

Kevin needs to STOP living in the Askewniverse and make other kinds of comedy.
He could pull off a movie like OLD SCHOOL or WITHOUT A PADDLE and it would do some decent box.... but it's time to give the Affleck, "Hicks", and New Jersey stuff a break.

Personally, I think he should only write & produce. The Jersey well has been pumped dry.

haha that's the most ridiculous excuse ever.

I think it'd probably work out for him to make another. I'd probably see it because his movies are watchable. There's definitely worse things than making another movie with Jay and Silent Bob in it. He should probably do something else though. Just to prove that he isn't completely dependent on the same ole characters.

10 years is a long time for young actors; I don't know if it would work, but given Jersey Girl, I say fuck it, make a Clerks 2, and just go overboard; ten years later, they're all still at exactly the same jobs, but they look, well, like they do now...

Well, heres an update, sort of:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Filmmaker Kevin Smith is set to direct his own screenplay of "The Passion of the Clerks," a sequel to his first film, 1994's "Clerks."

The sequel was written for the stars of the original film, Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson. Smith also will make an appearance with longtime sidekick Jason Mewes. The story follows the Quik Stop convenience store employees of the original "Clerks" 10 years later. Principal photography is set to begin in January. Miramax Films will distribute.

"After working on the 'Clerks' 10th-anniversary DVD for the better part of the last year, I fell in love with the characters all over again," Smith said. "The whole process reminded me why I got into the film business in the first place: to make talky, low-budget comedies. So I wrote this script about the older and not-so wiser Dante and Randal, as they try to deal with a decade of further disillusionment, even less sex and eroding pop culture."

A three-disc 10th-anniversary DVD release of the film, titled "Clerks X," is due Sept. 7 from Miramax Collectors Series. It will include the original theatrical version of the film, an extended Sundance Film Festival cut and a new documentary.

Smith, who most recently directed "Jersey Girl," starring Ben Affleck, is writing a screen adaptation of the comic book and television superhero "The Green Hornet," also for Miramax.

Kevin smith is fine if you are looking for that instant gratification kind of movie... anything more in depth calls for George Lucas or some other big name director (ie the guy who did ET and AI and such i cant think of the name cause it is 4 am and i am sleep typing)

I absolutely love all of Kevin Smith's work. I was inspired to write and direct after seeing Clerks. I absolutely loved Mallrats and Chasing Amy. Dogma was brilliant. Jersey Girl wasn't as bad as some fans said, but I still respected it for what it was.

After meeting him in the Jersey Shore when he taped the Roadside Attractions and telling him how I really want to be a writer and director and then him remembering me at The Secret Stash in Red Bank, I knew that he was just the coolest.

I was going for the 'Lucas with Depth' thing, but I have to admit, a lot of peeps forget, wayyyy before Star Wars, he did a thing called THX 1138; a wild, weird, dystopian fantasy; with a very early Duvall, and the Dabney Coleman of his era, Donald Pleasence.

It's coming out as a DVD re-release; and for the movie triv fans, oh shit you already know about what THX is. Never mind.

He is very cool about that stuff, and how many directors have those open house Stash Bash type things. So props to him there.

But I have to seperate my like for KS with his work, and I dislike a lot of it.

Clerks was a singular, unrepeatable event. It's that surprise debut album that is so good, nothing the group ever releases will ever compare, no matter How Good the stuff actually is.

Meat Loaf always said he was gonna do a Bat out of Hell 2. Can't happen. You can't remake an event like that. You can try, and even call it that, but that dont mean its what it is.

Has anyone seen the commerical for the DVD release of Jersey Girl?

It is Kevin Smith holding a picture of his wife and he says that a fat guy like him got the hot wife with a lot of "bling bling", so help him stay in the bling bling by going out and renting Jersey Girl. Help out the fat guy.

I loved it. He's poking fun at himself and it is the most original "Now on DVD" commerical I've ever seen. No "See the movie that whats-his-name calls Awesome" type of plugs.

I know I'm gonna get slaughtered for this but I just saw Jersey Girl and thought it was great. You can't compare it to other KS movies. You have to compare it to all other commercial drivel, and when you do it stands out. To me one of the best simple movies that came out this year. Too bad the Bennifer/Gigli thing killed it. I have to say it might have appealed to me more because my old lady and I had a kid this year.

For example: Kindest Regards, Your Name
