View Full Version : Fake Bands
Tenbatsuzen

This sprouted from a Sports-Guy-esque conversation I was having about Zack Attack with a friend of mine.
The question is this...
You are forced by the powers that be to see one concert by a fake band, i.e. a band that was shown in a movie, TV show, etc. Not an ACTUAL band that toured, released a record, or played live shows that the general public could see.
Examples: Zach Attack, The Heights (with a special disclaimer, see below) and Catwalk.
Technically, the Partridge Family, The Monkees, Spinal Tap, and other bands are eliminated because even though they came from movies or TV, people could actually see their concerts and buy their albums.
(The Heights is a special exception - they did get airplay, but they never had a full album, just one track on the soundtrack that beared their name)
Go to it, kids.

But I'd go to one of the late-night shows. You know, where they wear the skimpier outfits...

Did The Silver Platters ever really perform? If not, I'd chose them and go for Marcia backstage, offering her vodka and a nitrus balloon.

Technically, the Partridge Family, The Monkees, Spinal Tap, and other bands are eliminated because even though they came from movies or TV, people could actually see their concerts and buy their albums.
I like to break rules:
I'm voting for Spinal Tap despite the "rules" set up here. They were a Fake Band who really could write and play their music (and toured for real while some "real" bands who toured were faking their playing/singing) They aren't a real band, they don't even use their real names or voices when not playing. I think of the real aspects of Spinal Tap (the real tours and albums) as part of the joke of them not being a real band (People actually thought that movie was real, at least for a little while)

Spinal Tap: Mark 2 (AKA "The Folksmen")
If I was playing by the rules I'd vote for

Steel Dragon (made up of members of real bands, even Mark Mark of the Funky Bunch. I guess I like the whole mix of real and fake in my fake bands.)

Pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pumps your blood.
The right atrium's where the process
begins,
Where the C02 blood enters the heart
Through the tricuspid valve to the right
ventricle
The pulmonary artery and lungs.
Once inside the lungs it dumps its carbon
dioxide
And picks up its oxygen supply
Then it's back to the heart through the
pulmonary vein
Through the atrium and left ventricle.

Of course, she'd have to be doing the Tommy voice while I went to town.
But still, what was the name of the BAND?

That's the voice of Tommy?
You know, when I saw who voiced Lisa and Bart Simpson, I didn't feel so bad.
Seeing the voice of tommy makes me want to give myself a silkwood shower with steel wool, THAT'S how dirty I feel.
Back on topic: Cold Slither rules, why are we still discussing this, and thanks for following the rules of the thread, Hatetree Highway.

BAD NEWS! Hilarious.
"I could play 'Stairway To Heaven' when I was 16. Jimmy Page was 22 when he wrote it...and I think that says quite a lot".
------------
"You know that fucking moronic Bass run you play?"
"Which one?"
"You know the one!. Well, could you slide your finger down the fretboard at the end of it?"
"No, I have a cut on my finger."
"well, couldn't you use a different finger?!"
"alright, but it might mean using a different string."
