I am so thrilled they are doing this.

About 4 or 5 years ago, when WJFK was airing the punk show "Capital Radio," (maybe even longer than that - time is zipping by) they had on as a guest Eric Brace, a writer from the Washington Post, and the lead singer for the local bar band "Last Train Home."

He was proposing to the managment at the time (which still might have been Jeremy Coleman) to do a local music show on Sunday nights. Things didn't work out. Jeremy went to NY; Capital Radio became no more; and the chances of a local music show vanished.

I really hope with R&F behind it that something can take root. DC has one of the more robust music scenes, and a local music show could really be something exciting to hear every week.

BTW - "Last Train Home," who was named as "Best Bar Band" by "Washingtonian Magazine," signed with a small label a year or so ago, and has put out 3 CDs, 2 EPs, one foreign press compilation and is finishing up a live double CD, recorded at Arlington's "Iota," where they play several weekends a year. And while they've been on tour across the country (last night they were in Nashville at a benefit concert to help ailing musicians with medical expenses), and down in Australia they remain local - regularly participating in local charity music ta-dos, or playing gigs at The Birchmere, The Barns, Rams Head (Annapolis), The Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap. They have opened up for Lucinda Williams, Alejando Escovedo, Willie Nelson, and (next month) even George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic (!!?!!) among others. AND...they are just the tip of the iceberg!

If R&F aren't careful, this might become REALLY big!

This is great. As a member of the DC music scene (cough, Top Dead Center (http://www.top-dead-center.com), cough) I get the dual privelege of both playing great local clubs and bars to people that really appreciate local bands, as well as going to shows of other great area bands. Thanks to R & F, and everyone who supports local music!
