OK all...right before I start I need to announce this thread was approved by the FBI, CIA, FDA and most importantly...JustJon.

Ok boys and gals....I am announcing a Texas Hold-Em tournament at my apartment in October. Up to 21 people can participate at one time max. The buy in will be 20.00.
3rd place gets their money back, 2nd place gets 25% of the pot and 1st place gets 75%
BYOB and I will inform you all the exact time as the end of September arrives. But we are looking at Saturday night, October 16th at the most likely date. If not then the following weekend, the 23rd.
The tourney all depends on how many people want to attend. Let me know on here and I will keep a list of who is coming and who wishes they had the skills.
Oh yes....women are welcome too! (We need someone to serve us the drinks after all)

Well I do not know about trophys...I would just be happy with the money and acknowlagement.

One time buy in per game at the cost of another 20.00, which gets everyone the same amount of chips. We will only have a one time buy in per game so one game will not take all night. We would like to try and get at least two in during the evening.

You are more then welcome to bring a friend or two. The less people who represent here the more you will be welcome to bring. I want to save as many spots for RF.net family as I can before we auction seats off for other friends.

There were rumblings last winter/spring about doing them, but there were other issues and delayed long enough that I needed to do the softball game. If there is interest in a RF.Net Texas Holed'em Tourney, and if someone has a real location we can play (more like a larger hall somewhere than an apartment), you may contact me privately and we can see what we can do.

I live in Union county in NJ. Kenilworth to be exact.
It is only 10 minutes from where the softball game was played this past Saturday. There are several train stations in the area if you would need to take them to get to the game.

Most definately. We could hold up to about 25-30 people. 21 gives us more breathing room though.

Ok...considering the dealer rotates with every hand no matter where you sit you will be next to the dealer at least twice a round. once to your left and once to your right.
Oh yes...you even GET to be the dealer at one point. Didn't you know that? Or maybe you have played a different system with your buds.

Ok the date is set....it will be on Saturday October 23rd. NOT the 16th. The games will begin at about 6pm. I will need a list of who will absolutely make it vs who is interesed. Seats may fill up fast and I will inform you here when I have to start turning people away.

So far it will be a 21 man tourney, but we MIGHT be able to fit another 4-5 people in on this. Details of that to come soon.

That's 19 boys and girls. If we can get 2 more we can still keep it to a 3 table tourney. If we get 3-6 more it will turn into a 4 table tourney.

We will not go higher then 25 people due to space. But everyone keep letteing me know on here if you are still interested. You never know when a chair or 2 might open up due to late or last minute cancellations.

And for all you people (like mdr55) who have friends you would like to bring along, I want to give the board members a shot 1st at joining before anyone else. Hope you understand. It does not mean they will not make it, just want to wait it out a bit.

Now as for some of the rules....
As far as limits are concerned, it will be a 2 raise limit for each drop of the cards (i.e. no more then two raises after the flop, then a 2 raise limit after the turn card ect. for each hand) and the limit max raise is $2. Those limits will increase as the game goes on and the pace picks up a bit.

The dealers will be revolving (sorry Snoogans).

Again it is $20 to join in the game and another $20 for a ONE TIME PER GAME buy in.

Room will be non-smoking but there will be a smoking area for you people who cannot go without

As for winnings. They will be announced in the middle of each game.

I will post directions at the end of September to my place.

And the most important information is....this is BYOB!!!!!

20- .25 cent chips 10-.50 cent chips 10-$1 chips and 5-$5 chips. The buy back give you the same amount if you want to get back in the game.

The house will be taking about 2-3 dollars per person from the pot in the 1st game so we can order some pizza. We figure that would be enough for food and soda. (about 60 bucks) but it is BYOB for alcohol.

We are down to 4 chairs left. Had two more people want in over the weekend. We are up to 21 people with 4 chairs left.

JP...I have only lived in Kenilworth for about a year and a half. But you being in Springfield means you are only about 20 mins tops from my place. Were you at the softball game? I did not remember seeing you there.

M1...yes I do have a backyard. Although I do not think you will want to put up a tent there. I live right next to the GSP. It gets a bit noisy in the AM. But if you do not mind it then my Backyard is all yours. I called the Kenilworth Inn and they said they charge 89.00 for a room for Saturday night. You might want to consider that place. Not a bad price for a hotel like that and on a weekend also.

It's cool Snoogs...like I said it was an understandable preference. There is just several problems to be had with having a set dealer who will not be betting in the game. We would need to find at least 3 people who would want to deal and know how to do it without wanting in on the game and also the space situation. We have enough room for 6 people per table max but adding another 3-4 people would not be easy.

But believe me it was something that I had considered. Depending on how successful this tournament goes at the next one we may well have set dealers.

Wasn't a complaint, it was an observation.

Think of this... you know everyone is in for $20, and not gambling based on money once they're in. Why not usee whole numbers for the chips? It's easier for people to count and track in their heads.

You also started thinking about limits when you started planning the games. It just shows you don't play the game alot.

Actually that is a good suggestion. I think that works fine.

So with the chips being those amounts the blinds will most likely be $1 for the small and $2 for the big. And those amounts will double every 30 minutes. (So after 30 mins. it will be $2 small and $4 big, then $4 small and $8 big ect.)

Now for the rules:

Blinds start at $1-small $2-Big and will double every 30 mins. They top off when we hit no limit.

Winning totals will be announced in the middle of each game.

We will be taking $2-3 per person off of the top of the first games pot to pay for food like pizza or something.

It is BYOB and a non smoking apartment. But as stated before...we have area for you to smoke for those people who need one here and there.

We have 4 car parking in the driveway and plenty more in the street. So parking will NOT be a problem.

I will be PMing everyone from the board with directions. Please let me know here where you are coming from and I will send the directions to you individually. Make sure your PMs are ENABLED or you will not be getting anything after I send it.

i think the blinds should increase, but it should be no limit the whole time. i make this suggestion cause i know alot of people prefer that and i know i probably wont play many hands during limit time cause its just not fun unless i bought all my chips like a casino.
limit tournaments go on to long also. if you do it that way, the first game that starts at 6 with 21 people wont be over for a good 6+ hours.

I would prefer to ease everyone into the game before opening up the no limit gates but that is me.

The limits for the first few hands sounds quite reasonable. You have got to feel the other guys out. The only problem I have ever encountered with no limit is, near the end of the round, some joker calls 3 card guts (matching the pot, of course) You are in or you are out. End of story. I was up over $100 one night, and wound up losing on one round of fucking 3-card guts!!

BTW J4A, sounds like you got a full house. I will probably bail on the spectaor gallery. (unless a bunch of you punk out). If it is a sucsess, and I can find a proper babysittier, I would definitly go for THE-2.

lets remember people this is a FRIENDLY game. Not everyone is as adept at playing that hard core style of poker some of you like to play.
If we were to go No limit and someone got bumped from the game within 7 hands he is less likely to want to go in for the next game because he got killed from the table so quickly the 1st time.
The purpose is for everyone to have a good time and enjoy themselves, not come over and then leave 40 minutes later because you were dicouraged enough not to want in for the next game.
At the risk of sounding redundant we are playing limit poker for a LIMITED amount of time...if some of you can stomach that for a little while until we DO hit the no limit time then fine, if not then it is your option to not want to play. God knows I have other people who would be more then willing to fill those seats very quickly.

see thats the point justice. no limit takes out that element of reckless hardcore. with limit, you can be a reckless jackass cause you cant lose all your money. making it no limit actually makes people play a little closer to the vest, and makes the game alot more fun. its kinda hard to bluff and know if people are bluffing when all they can bet is 3 dollars and do it EVERYTIME

yea, but there i didnt buy in for 20 and play a tournament. in ac, i bought my chips, 2/4 all day, but i can sit down, win 1 hand, and leave with more than i started. thats why i dont mind limit in a casino.

To save time on deals have multiple decks at the table. That way the cards are ready to go once one hand is finished. I know at the Ron and Fez tourney we had a horrible dealer and it took them forever to deal on hand.

The only problem with splitting up the tables with limit and no limits would be 2 things...
1) What happens when the people at either tables are down to say 2 or 3 people left but the other tables are still filled? Do the others just wait around for more people lose until they jump in?
And 2) what happens if there is an unbalance of people who wish to play no limit vs. those who would like there to be limits of the poker? Then we would not be able to break up the tables evenly.

and no you cant split tables cause everyone at the limit table would have an unfair advantage of being guarenteed to have chips left when the tables merge.

I can only do one trick...its actually pretty cool but you need to have the real chips not the plastic ones.

I think Justice has put together a good show. Its only 1 1/2 hours of limit. You could probably not play for that long and not even lose 1/8 of your stack to blinds and then its all no-limit.

Hey Snoogans, you are so fucking wrong. Most tournaments HAVE BUY BACKS. Don't base everything by the WSoP. It brings up the cash, as stated, and most of the better players just build their stacks and the buy backers are really short-stacked and donating. It also allows you to come back from bad beats. I'm not trying to rip anyone down here, but I've done this many times now. Just won one in AC and sold my seat for the next day for $800 (I paid an initial $50 buy in and $10 entry). The next day (of my satellite) it cost 1k to join. So a player who was going to play anyway asked if any of the final 5 (which was possible bc of buy backs, hence 5 winners and I was mid stacked) wanted to sell their seat. I passed and 2 people sold their seat for $600, while 2 others said they were playing. I was leaving in the morning but I was told to wait for a better offer from an experienced friend. Sure enough, I was approached again and I sold it for $800, $200 more. I took a chance and it paid off.

I forgot, the only thing is that there has to be a time limit to the by backs....say 1-2hrs. It doesn't mean you have to, especially if someone looks to powerful to bring down. When people get knocked out, set up some side games for fun or money.

And in most tournaments there is a final by back, termed a recharge, in which everyone left can by back even if they are the tall stack. This wouldn't fit as well here, but it is a norm.

We can bring it up right before the game and see what the majority vote is.

I do like the idea of a limit on the time you can buy back. I was thinking of making it no buy backs once it hits no limits.

OK folks....one week away.
I am still missing some directions (Irish and Silera...this means YOU).
Just to let you all know, this is for fun and money, but mostly for the fun.
Trash talking is pretty much part of the game as is joking around and busting balls, but if things start to get too out of control we will ask whoever is the offensive party to calm down just a bit and if all other requsts are ignored that party will be asked to leave the table and if it SILL continues, then the house with NO REFUNDS.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up before you come here. Trying not to drop any potential bombshells and ruin anyones fun.

Since there are no buy-backs the prizes are the same as your original post:
1st place gets 75% of the pot
2nd place gets 25%
3rd place gets $20 bucks back


With the first pot being slightly altered to pay for food and such the AMOUNT of the winnings will be announced in the middle of the game. We are going to try and make it with 4 winners...the 4th place winner getting money back, and so on. But the details of that are still being worked on. It also depends on how many people play ect.
if the 1st place gets 75% and the 2nd place gets 25% there is no money left! *laughs* and if that is MY math then I was wayyyyy off. (sorry)
Anyway....do not worry, if you win you still plan on winning alot more then you put down.

Ok all....like the man said..it's D-Day. And YES we have ALL those wonderful things...including (taa daa) A DRIVEWAY.
If you come early enough and there are spots open in the driveway (We can park at least 4 cars in there...mine and Cripplers will be in the Garage) Then go ahead and park in the driveway.
There will be more then enough room in the street for everyone else.
