View Full Version : Cant get rid of spyware!
No matter what i do, Adaware, and Norton combined I cant get rid of it and its fucking up my comp BAD! I could do a system restore but theres to much data on this comp, more my mothers stuff than mine. Ill run norton, which takes a solid 45 minutes. it will find virus' but when I go to delete them More than half will come up and say delete failed. Should I risk it all get all the data and throw it on a disk then do a restore? Or should I bring it into the geek squad at work and let them take care of it for free?

> check your 'running' processes and see if there is a bunch of funky shit running utilizing chunks of cpu
> if so, end the process but first take a note of what the names are
> go to your startup file/settings and make sure you don't have anything checked to start at startup
> reboot
> check startup file/settings again to make sure everything remained unchecked
> now run adaware and your virusscan
Plus certain 'crap' i had found running that i didn't need 'after i followed the procedure above' i did a search for any files or folders with the 'craps' name in it and deleted it...
i had found some strange stuff utilizing cpu like 30% when all i had open was the Task Manger

The lack of "Spybot Search and Destroy" comments when referring to spyware concerns me.
If its only spyware, spybot will get it. However, I have a feeling its viruses too. Screw Norton. Get AVG anti-virus free edition. Much better.

Also try running everything in "Safe Mode". A lot of times that will work due to Windows loading nothing but the basics of what it needs to get going.
Oh, and get Spybot.

i'm having trouble since i removed a virus, ie. startpage-dc!host.
i am unable to get a windows update. 1st off, it gives me an activex warning, then nothing. i've even tried to get the updates from another comp and install them but they won't take.
anybody???
