Man, whatever happened to the Phil i once knew who was just a ROCK and a Metal Icon to Millions
Oh yeah, heroin and some other drugs that really fuck you up.
I found this on one of the metal messageboards I visit. Found it funny:
PHILIP ANSELMO: 'If You're Standing With Your Arms Folded, You Are A Homosexual!' - Aug. 31, 2004
Scott Mervis of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reviewed the Ozzfest 2004 traveling heavy metal festival when it hit Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday (August 2. An excerpt from his review follows:
"BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, featuring Ozzy axman Zakk Wylde, roared through a set of squealing metal with guitars all up to 12. It was full-out, no frills and a little undistinguished compared to what was to come. Wylde, a rugged character, did impart some wisdom from his WWII-vet father: 'You can fly planes into our buildings, but when you [mess] with the best, you're gonna die with the rest.'
"Phil Anselmo takes the award for the most hostile performer of the day - and perhaps the year. He didn't seem to understand why the corrosive hardcore of his band, SUPERJOINT RITUAL, didn't inspire the overheated crowd to maintain a constant mosh pit.
"The tattooed and mohawked Anselmo took to insults (or at least his idea of them): 'If you're standing with your arms folded, you are a homosexual!' He also ratcheted up the military rhetoric: 'This is the United States of America, and we can hate whoever we want! So, let's start busting heads!'
"Ultimately, the angry but amusing kook went off the stage, slamming down the mike and saying, 'You're the worst audience I ever played in front of.'
This picture was also posted which made me giggle.

Wait, is that Phil NOW?
Shit...what happened to the badass beast I feared/respected when I was in high school and middle school?
Maybe it's the hair. Long hair, I'm sorry, has NEVER looked hardcore on anyone. The short hair made him look fuckin' BRUTAL.

The long hair I think has to do with his roots down in NOLA and being quite the fan of such old school bands as Venom and Celtic Frost. If Superjoint was anything remotely near either of the latter, I woul dhave been overjoyed. The rest of the band I am cool with being members from Down, EyeHateGod and others in the NOLA sludge scene. I just wanted one more Pantera record. Trendkill was o.........k but just one more burst of power from the Almighty Pantera would surely do the trick.
Fortunately there is a whole new breed of metal (in the old school Pantera vein{not THAT old}) that is suiting me just fine.
Oh yeah, remember the O & A Oxxfest interview the other year? That was the first I had heard just how messed up Phil was. I remembered the Vulgar era Phil that came off as Mr. Determination and Strength because of how he carried himself. I pulled out my Headbanger's Ball from when Pantera hosted in 91 and just watched the dramatic difference in how he was then compared to now.
It is really a shame bcause he seems as if he doesn't want to clean himself up.

I just found my "superjoint ritual: a lethal dose of american hatred" cd i had stashed in a bin with other horrific cds(along with slipknots new album)
popped the dusty thing in and whammo
"1.2....1...2..3..4" on almost every song. I miss Pantera(the band) :( even my Deftones cd laughs at it

That last Deftones was aweome. Look out for the new Shadow's Fall as Revolver gave it 5 Stars. New Lamb of God and Mastodon OWN as well.
Lethal Dose was very much like the same song. You are so right about the 1,2,3,4.......1,2,3,4.
Boring.

and about Deftones last album that had "minerva" my only complaints was the song "Hexagram"

Last month I played a gig with a band made up of the drummer and lead guitarist from Zyris and another band. Not a gloat because how bad does it suck to be in Zyris, who were enjoying some success as a Joisey band when in 1987, Zakk gets the Ozzy gig. He gave guitar lessons in Jackson, the town near Great Adventure.

I was at both "local" ozzfests this year (1 in jones beach and 1 in pnc) Superjoint has been heckled both times. People chanting "Pan-ter-A", telling him to shut up when he starts talking, and yelling Dimebag and Vinnies names at random times. I would imagine this is happening through-out the Ozzfest tour. This would eventually get to anyone, especially if you believe in the current band you're in and want so badly for the fans to enjoy it. Now the 'If You're Standing With Your Arms Folded, You Are A Homosexual!' comment was just to get the people rialed up. Plus if you're at a metal show and you're stand there with your arms crossed....maybe you are a faggot. I didnt enjoy every band at Ozzfest but I was still in every pit. I hate the fairies that run to the front of the stage and just stand there. Go stand in the back with the other fags. Also as far as the slamming down the mike and saying, 'You're the worst audience I ever played in front of.' comment....it's probably true, so shame on the arm crossing homosexuals.

I just wanted one more Pantera record. Trendkill was o.........kYou got 2. The 101 proof live album and Reinventing the steel. Trendkill kicked ass, reinventing the steel was o.........k. That's because they knew it was over after that album. Dimebag started reusing old riffs, and Phill started reusing old lyrics.

You know Pants, I fucked up there. I did get Reinventing The Steel and got that one confused with Trendkil. Shame on me for forgetting also because I loved the return favour or Seth Putnam doing a lot of the backing vocals on Trendkill after Phil did vocals on the Gloves of Metal on 40 More Reasons To Hate Us. And 101 Proof......I LOVED that. I don't normally count live albums though in a bands repitoire unles it has a bunch more newer tracks on it. Kind of like what KISS did with Alive II.

They were the worst - here in DC just rambled and babbled through his entire 30 minutes. Glad to know I'm not alone in my dislike of them.
