Gary Oldman is one guy who knows how to get into a character, and he looks different in every role...a real character actor. Matthew Bright ("Freeway" was a small gem) wrote and directed this domestic melodrama about "little people"...dwarves and (don't say it..)midgets. A great cast is on hand like Matthew McConaughey and Kate Beckensale (a stunning woman who can't act, but she is so cute) along with a huge cast of little people.
The story of Rolfe (Oldman is amazing) and Steven (McConaughey), birth twins from small parents that are not too close. Rolfe is a dwarf and Steven is normal size, Steven gets the news from his girlfriend Carol (Beckinsale) that she is pregnant and this is a major blow. Steven is afraid that the child will be a dwarf and never told Carol about his small family, until Rolfe shows up. This is the heart of the story, but this movie is just plain stupid and unresolved. It's Brights fault for making a stupid movie.
At leat the movie is watchable for the cast of real dwarves including Peter Dinklage as a mean drunken Frenchman biker named Maurice (Harve Villachez was the model), and Debbie Lee Carrington (Total Recall hooker dwarf) and pornstar Bridgett the Midget. The party scene is strange with David Allen Grier as a SammyJr wannabe. It's Oldman that gets it right as the good hearted Rolfe. Bizzarro-rama movie of the month. Call Dr. Cult-O!
