View Full Version : I Got a Really Bad Review Today

It's true. I've always gotten stellar reviews but this year I switched to a different division of the company and I don't like my boss.

The truth is, I HATE my job. I've been at it for 4 1/2 years and I only took it because someone else wanted me to take it. I've been in my current position for about a year. I thought it would be better but I feel miserable, lost, and alone.

After this review I just don't have it in me to turn it up a notch. I don't feel fulfilled.

Truth is, I want to quit and do something frivolous, like, go to dog grooming school. I have money in savings and in mutual funds. I can do freelance proofreading on the side while I'm in school. It'll cover some of my bills but I'm sick and tired of being miserable.

What do you guys think?

Go for it baby! Fuck being in a job you hate. i know what that is like. when that alarm goes off in the morning, you would do anything to not go to work.

I say find something you truly love and go for it. if money is not an issue, then you should. maybe go back to school for a masters degree or something. or just take a hobby and try and turn it into a career. you can always go back to the grind later on.

This may help your mental health a lot. and being a confident person will only open more doors and oppurtunities that now may be passing you by. You sound like a nice person, but someone who is unhappy with something. maybe it is work. i say quit this job with the shitty boss. if needed, have something lined up first before you quit. Unless you need/want a vacation, then just do it.

But one thing, the first day off, you have to set your alarm clock to wake you up on a weekday the same time you normally would. then look at the clock, and just shut it off, smile and go back to sleep.

I guess they don't pay mods well eh? Go back to being a regular poster. You were happier then. Go Diamond!

I get good reviews but no raises so i'm not sure if i'd be better off getting a bad review. Actually i would need to pass 4 or 5 Cisco Certification tests to get a raise and that ain't happening anytime soon and more likely never!

But we're all human and a 'bad review' is a downer since you care about doing a good job. It's a tough call to be cashing in any Funds considering you most likely will take a penalty and get taxed up the wazoo. Then again i'm not up to date on how all funds work.

You're young and smart and could probably do whatever you put your mind to. The key is 'putting your mind to it', doing it and not looking back.

Good luck and don't worry yourself too much. I work for a paycheck and along the way i do my best within the time i'm at work and am lucky to work with a good group of people. But when I'm off 'work' is the furthest thing from my mind...

Petrina,

Don't act crazy, you silly girl!

You know you like what you're doing....otherwise you'd be doing something else already!!

When I transferred to OCCB, I had gotten great reviews from all my sgts. My first review in OOCB was from a LT. who had never even seen me before...He was going on reports from people that I had worked with and never,,, I I mean never ...read my reports....He gave me a review that a rookie wouldn't even accept....I foughtt it...it took months...I won......that's when I got my detective shield...

Just fight it....fuck these people.....it's all personal...

Do what will make you happy. A few of my friends are freelancing right now and are loving it. If you arent happy there and dont see yourself getting happy, then thats not the place for you. I quit my last job for the same reasons. I wasnt happy. I started doing my own thing and it was the best thing I ever did. The money isnt always as steady but the quality of life is great. If you feel like you have enough money tucked away to cover yourself for a while then do it. You have to be happy.

God, I hear you there! I love doing what Im doing, but they moved us from Hicksville to Brooklyn and my boss is a total moron who encoutages an unprofessional work atmosphere where out of 17 people, 5 of us are bearing by far the brunt of the workload. My boss must have a phobia about telling African Americans, both men and women, what to do, and they are taking full advantage of it. Everyones afraid to bring it up because no one wants to be called bigoted, but its so unfair that they sit there playing video games all day while I cant catch a break in the phone calls. I am so sick of it at this point Id take anything else in the company just to get out of there. Its bullshit!

I say move on. There's no point in staying in a job that makes you miserable. Preferably, you should try and line something else up but if you don't, and can survive off of savings for a while, then do so.

If you have money saved up, Go for It!!!

If not, stay at your job till you find something else.

I was in a similar situation like you. I used to love my job but there was so much stuff going on that the stress wasn't worth it even for the salary. In fact, I was interviewing for a higher postion on the team and it wasn't until during the interview that I decided to give in my resignation. It was so surreal, I felt like I was in a movie where everything was moving in slow motion and my whole life was flashing in front of me. I still can't believe I did something like that. Since then I've work on another team in a different county doing the same thing that I left. And now I'm going to be going to a different team in a different county after not working since March. Thank goodness I got a good rep. I keep in contact with my co-workers and they always ask me how retirement is and I tell them I'm semi-retired.

Don't take off from First unless you know you can steal Second.

I don't know all the details of your job situation, but I think you work in a great industry, one that I've always wanted to be a part of. Maybe its not the best thing to take advice from people over a message board, who have no real consequences over what decision you make.

I understand about being miserable in a position. I took one two and a half years ago and I was super stressed and sad and lonesome and without support. My reviews revolved around "why can't I get along with the girls (other assistants)?" Other people saw it but could not help me at all.

I was transferred to another department (they found someone else for my position; they thought that that I should be moved because I couldn't play well with others). Lo and behold, I can do well someplace else.

The lesson here is: You are worth something to someone somewhere else. Go find it!!!

that's the 'somewhat' easy part... now you have to hand it in. It's gotta be pretty 'emotional' for you.

Stick to your guns, you owe them nothing and you have to do what's best for you.
