Genesis capsule crashes in desert (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/09/08/genesis.entry.cnn/index.html)

Wouldn't it be fucked up if something came out and said "Take me to your leader?"

its a shame that this failed. these things are not easy to build, no matter how smart the guys doing it are. they have much tighter budget constaints. i guess in a perfect world you could say "an extra 25 million spent on development and testing could have saved this mission costing X amount of dollars" but that is hindsight. look at the shuttle, all that money and successful flights and something went wrong.

i feel bad for the scientists who were involved as well as those who were waiting for the tiles to come back. that was some important information they were hoping to gain. hopefully we can launch anther one with the info we learned from this one and it will be a success

I agree but NASA will learn from this and become better.

i think they really need to develop a committee that can determine whether the 'benefits of certain areas of the space program outweigh the cost'

I haven't heard much of the two vehicles on Mars. Has there been any benefit? There seems to be too many causes on earth that can benefit more from the enormous amount of money being spent than the benefits people see from it being used in space.
