I was driving down Route 1 today on my way to work, and I saw that it was all stopped up in the North Brunswick area.

I've seen a lot of accidents in my time, but I've never seen so many strobes in my life. Check this out.

A tractor trailer flipped and hit another car, landing on it and it bursting into flames.

As the conglomeration of metal, fuel, and fire went flying through the three lanes of Route 1, it took out the front lawn of the Malouf car dealership, sending mud flying all over the cars and the front facade of the dealership.

The wreck also took out two light poles, and then badly smashed up at least three cars on the Malouf lot. Since these was the front row of the lot, these were the high-quality "display" cars, that pull people into the dealership.

Anyone see this?

Your story is inconsistent with a car accident. Some eyewitnesses claim it was a missile. If you're lying about that, what else are you trying to hide?

I heard the car called the tractor trailer a "doggone stubborn n*gger" before it got jumped.

The "g" sound is unmistakable.

Clearly a hate crime targeting homosexual immigrants from Poland.

OK, I got the dirt.

Accident happened between 4 and 5 am this morning. Woman in a small car ran a red light in the rain and met up with Mr. Tractor Trailer.

The accident took out the giant flag pole at the car dealership, along with a power pole, the aforementioned lawn destruction and mud-slinging, and it took out EIGHT cars on the Malouf lot.

The woman somehow survived the accident and she's in the hospital, but apparently is extra-crispy right now.

Burned is a horrible way to die - it's slow, painful, and gut-wrenching... literally.

So this was actually a real event? I searched all sorts of news sites but there is really no Jersey News Service at least from what i could find. I tried to listen to Jersey 101.5 but that got annoying after about 15 minutes.

I will now light myself on fire.

Seriously, though, I've been asking around, and nobody has ANY clue why it hasn't been reported. I'm about thisclose to calling the Home News Tribune and asking, "What's up with that?"

Talk about hell, I live near a Jersey 101.5 broadcast tower and their signal saturates all other stations on my clock radio. On every FM station I get 101.5.

no shit. to me its one of the worst ways to go...that and drowning. my wifes dad died of burns when she was 8. to put it nicely, he liked to drink. he came home one night from a bar and took a shower. he slipped in the shower knocking himself out and at the same time turned the water on to hot. everyone else was sleeping so you can imagine how bad the burns were. he ended up spending the next 3 months in the hospital and then died. his body wasn't strong enough to fight off getting sick and that was the end of it. terrible story and that is why if i had one wish it would be to bring him back for one day. my wife barely got to know him and i'm sure there is so much she would want to tell him....and she may also want to introduce him to me, but i'm not always sure about that.

My dad saw a similar accident up here around the Danbury area. He was driving home yesterday and, mind you this was the pooring rain, a tractor trailer hit into another car and one truck wheel went flying upwards and ended up coming down and landing on another car. If there weren't two slow moving cars up in front my dad, he might've been the one in the accident.

Big rig flips on Route 1 in N. Brunswick
Thursday, September 09, 2004
BY BETH KRESSEL
Star-Ledger Staff
A tandem tractor-trailer crashed into a utility pole and flipped on Route 1 in North Brunswick yesterday before one of the trailers cracked and spilled its cargo on the busy highway.

The early morning accident left one woman injured and backed up northbound rush-hour traffic for miles.

The accident occurred at 4:15 a.m. when a Mitsubishi driven by Diana Fisher, 29, of Kendall Park was crossing the highway from Cozzens to Adams lanes and collided with a rig traveling in the center northbound lane of Route 1, North Brunswick police said.

After colliding with the car, the driver of the Overnight Transportation Co. truck lost control of the rig, drove onto the curb, crashed into a 65-foot utility pole and snapped the pole in half, police said.

The truck also downed a 25-foot metal light pole in the parking lot of the Malouf car dealership on Route 1. The rig then flipped onto its passenger side, cracking one of two trailers attached to the truck and spilling 30 gallons of a cement additive.

A number of pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles parked in Malouf's lot were damaged, but police weren't sure whether the truck or falling debris damaged the vehicles.

When police arrived at the scene moments after the crash, smoke began pouring from Fisher's vehicle, authorities said. Police quickly opened the car door and helped the driver walk to the side of the road before the vehicle burst into flames, said Lt. William Kloos.

North Brunswick firefighters were called to the scene by police and quickly extinguished the flames, said Lt. Roger Reinson.

Passers-by who saw the car after it had been hoisted onto a tow truck said nothing but the metal frame was left once firefighters put the fire out.

Fisher was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where she was listed yesterday in stable condition, police said.

Truck driver Matthew MacDonald, 43, of Schenectady, N.Y., was not injured in the crash, police said.

Police said it is not clear what led to the crash and no summons had been issued.

The hoods of pickup trucks and SUVs parked in Malouf's lot were smashed in, windshields were cracked and the vehicles were spattered with mud and grass.

When asked the estimated cost of damage, Bob DeVito, the dealership's general manager said, "I have no idea. We are trying to assess that right now."

The rig was traveling from the Philadelphia area to another company terminal in Albany, N.Y., Kloos said.

Motorists faced major delays while crews worked to clean up the accident.

"It took two hours to get three miles," said Fred Martino, 66, who traveled from Franklin Township to the dealership to get his pickup truck serviced, he said.

Once he arrived, he could not believe his eyes.

"It looked like Beirut," he said.

The northbound side of Route 1 was closed until about 10 a.m. and traffic was diverted off the highway onto Adams Lane and then onto Route 130, Reinson said.

The county hazmat team arrived at the scene at 5:30 a.m. and determined the cement additive was not hazardous, said Bob Heimbuch, a county hazmat specialist.

The utility pole was replaced just before noon, said a spokesman for Public Service Electric & Gas.
