Going into Best Buy and checking out the DVD's- I've notice there are many "Unrated" versions of movies- 91/2 Weeks, Striptease, Eurotrip, Girl Next Door, American Pie, etc.

So how many naked minutes does a difference make in classifying the DVD as an "Unrated" version? Like in the movie Girl Next Door (I saw the regular version) what did I miss in the Unrated version? I'm assuming the lap dance the ladies are naked in the unrated version.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to have both versions on 1 DVD and if parents are concerned about subject matter, don't DVD's have parental control?

I don't know, it seems that when I was growing up if you got an "unrated" movie something was taboo to see for it to get a rating like that. What was the rating for "Bolero" when it came out? Now it seems that "unrated" doesn't carry the same clout it used to and is used as a marketing tool.

Sorry for the long rant.

Finally, if you have seen both versions of any movie that has an unrated version, what made it different from the regular version.

Thanks.

The other way around BlockBuster, or someone, edited some of their shit

Example: "Requiem for a Dream" they cut out all/most of the 'Ass to Ass' scene, and in American Pie, they cut out some of the pie humping.

Like there's something wrong with two women enjoying a dildo in a crowd of screaming men, or a guy innocently fucking baked goods.

Any changes to the cut of a film that was rated by the MPAA (http://www.mpaa.org/), is technically unrated. In other words, if it is a version of the movie that hasn't been rated, it's unrated. It's all a big marketing ploy to sell more DVDs.

As mikey said, the MPAA uses an arbitrary set of rules for ratings. The studios cut things here and there to satisfy the ratings board and get the R for theatrical releases because they can't get into as many theatres or places to advertise with an NC-17.

The imdb usually has the list of changes in the trivia link on their films. Go to the movie of choice, then click trivia on the left side.
