He is a definite hall of famer but he is no comparison to Babe Ruth. Ruth led the league in homers 12 times, Bonds twice. Ruth is a Career 342 hitter, bonds is barely at 300. Ruth won many world series, Bonds has a pathetic performance in the postseason

That's only 14 HR's away...if he gets hot they'll probably follow his every at bat the rest of the season. Oh, goody! Why won't the steroids just catch up to him like it did to Giambi & he just die? How many times to I have to pray for this?!

Hes obviously gonna pass Ruth next season, and pass Aaron either end of next year or in the 2006 season. Either way, hes not leaving til he gets 756.

Ruth faced better pitching, and he did not wear body armor that gave him more confidence in crowding the plate. Ruth also palyed in bigger ball parks, although, Yankee stadium was only 295 to right, and the babe was left handed. Some of Ruth's bat weighed 52 oz.

Ruth stole home 10 times. He also out homerd whole teams. Bonds is great, Ruth was the greatest.

its almost an impossible comparison. its like 2 different game almost. more teams, better equipment, better conditions for travel and such. players today are way more spoiled. better medicine and treatments as well.

i am not a fan of bonds, i think he is a cocky fuck (and maybe rightfully so). but he makes no effort to get people to like him, so i would never make an effort to route for him. if this was someone like sammy sosa i would care. fuck bonds. he can have all the records he wants, people around the country fucking hate him.

maybe that should be a clue. you guys never gave a thought that maybe Bonds just used legal enhancers, like mcgwire did, and thats why he isnt having problems like alot of other guys.
then again, gagne seems to be doin ok on just regular steroids, so who knows

anyway 700 to me, is not as impressive as when bonds became the first 500/500 guy after being the ONLY 400/400 guy.
He is about to become the first player ever with an OBP over 600, ruth didnt even do that.
Ive never seen, in my entire life, one player put as much fear into another team as bonds does. and ill include ruth and mays and aaron, cause at least people pitched to them

Well when you get walked over 200 times a season, thats gonna happen. Pitchers very rarely, if ever, intentionally walked a guy when Ruth played.

thats a good point. he does command a lot of respect. i think more than necessary. his On base percentage is all due to the walks, not to hits so it is a slightly inflated number.

If he's getting walked over 200 times a season, incredibly seems to be a better word than slightly. Bonds is an asshole. He'll most likely get 756, but I won't give him the respect I give to Ruth and Aaron.

well you have to give him the credit for being walked so many times. thats why i said slightly. i feel like a lot of those walks are not needed. pitch to him and see what happens. managers and pitchers are pussies. throw some good pitches and see if you can get him to ground out.

In my opinion Babe and Bonds can both take a back seat to Mr. Hammering Hank.

What Ruth did set the stage for everyone to come after him. Bonds and others will come and go, but if you check out [was it a documentary?] the deal with Hank Aaron and the Pressure and Shit he got when he approached, tied, and then beat 714 was so bad he said the happiest thing about breaking the record was getting it Over, so the Death Threats and Hate Mail might stop.

He was getting a little tired of read, and frankly hearing from people: "No Nigger is gonna take the Babe's record." To see him tell it; you can see this was a horrific, nightmare time for him. He loathed the entire thing.

Here's to Hank. I vaugely remember it; or I don't and seeing it on TV a million times has replaced it, but the spotlight on Hank was worse then anything I can imagine. Forget 61.

the guy has 42 homers in like 350 AB's. thats crazyness, especially since he gets like 1 pitch to hit. if you let him get in a groove, he would be bombing 70 again.
thats why i think bonds only took legal suppliments. 1, he didnt get smaller like everybody else, and he is still hitting the same homers per AB. the rest of the league is down in size and numbers, but bonds didnt change, and obviously wouldnt still be on roids.

the man can flat out hit. you may not respect him like you respect those other guys, and thats fine, i agree in fact.
barry bonds is a questionable person but as a player, damn he might be the best ever.

LT was a douchebag crackhead, no one seems to care about that

good point about LT.

as for bonds, he def. has the natural ability.

and just because steroids kills someone's body does not mean it will happen to everyone.

there are people who can do coke and function and there are those who become instant addicts and it ruins their lives.

there are also people who eat big mac's everyday and stay skinny. its just genetics.

he is a machine, and get better with age. don't forget he is an NL guy meaning he still has to play the field every day, not just get 4 AB's and sit the bench

i know withthe steroids, that was like a half joke.
but everyone wants to compare him to rookie bonds, how bout compare him to bonds in 93 when he first went to SF. he was about halfway between rookie and now. he's been gettin bigger over years, its not like it just happened. when you get older, you get even bigger, and work out more to prevent injuries.
even a guy like scott stevens is bigger now just cause he has to work harder.
for some reason, and i dont want to, cause i dont like barry, but i honestly dont think he took anything illegal. you can take millions of things that are legal and really help, and im sure he takes many of them. but he is just so good with such shit to work with, i dont think he had to go illegal.
i mean, he changed the whole dynamic of a sport. IBB used to be to set up a force or get to the pitcher. they walk bonds because they are sccared. no one has ever made other teams that scared, even LT wasnt avoided like bonds. they avoid him like he's aids

Steroids or not, Bonds gets bat on ball better than anyone else in the league and theres no illegal supplement that can give you an unfair advantage at that. Snoogs made a good point about the amount of homers he has in about 150 ABs less than the rest of the starting position players around the league.

Theres plenty of great players in the league, i.e. Arod, Pujols, Vlad, but they all have a ton of ABs.

Arod has had 5 seasons with more than 600 at bats. And just 2 seasons in which he didnt have over 500 at bats, and those were his first 2 years.

Pujols has had 590 at bats his first 3 years, and already has 540 now.

Guerrero has had over 560 ABs in each full season that he has played in...

Now, lets take a look at Bonds...

Bonds has not had 500 or more official at bats since 1998. In 2000, he had 480 ABs. That year he hit 49 home runs. In 2001 he had 476 At bats. That year he hit 73 home runs...in over 150 less at bats than the players mentioned above! After that season his ABs have decreased greatly. In 2002, he had 403 at bats. He hit 46 home runs that year. In 2003, he had just 390 At bats. He hit 45 home runs. This year, with less than half a month to go, Bonds already has 42 home runs in just 343 at bats. Those numbers are incredible!

This has had 100 or more walks in 12 of his 19 seasons in the league. Hes had 150 or more walks 4 times in his career. In 2002 he walked 198 times. This year, he has already been walked 207 fucking times! Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron were great players/hitters, but none of them scared the piss out of opposing pitchers quite like Bonds.

You can check out some of the stats here-

Babe Ruth (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats_historical/mlb_individual_stats_player.jsp?playerID=121578)

Hank Aaron (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats_historical/mlb_individual_stats_player.jsp?playerID=110001)

I also included despite him being completely left out of this argument...plus hes my most favorite player ever.

How could anyone else deserve the MVP award more than Bonds? If you were to look at the teams roster outside of Bonds, what do they have? Besides Schmidt, their rotation is mediocre at best. I wouldnt trust any game within a 4 run margin to that bullpen. And the offense...really isnt all that great. Grissom is alright, Durham has his moments but hes nothing like he used to be. JT Snow is in consistent and isnt a big run producer. Edgardo Alfonzo? AJ Pierzinsky? Cmon! Yet, this team is like 3 games out of first in the NL west? Theyre 1st in the wild card standings? Thats all Bonds...Ruth had Gehrig to help him with the offense...Bonds has no one.

Yeah I heard that too, but cmon, would you want to be in the same locker room as those losers? We've already established that hes a cocky fuck and he doesnt really try to hide it. The fans sometimes like to think its about them, but in reality its just about those guys going out onto the field everyday and makin $. A lot of the guys around the league couldnt give 2 shits about the fans, Bonds is one of the few who isnt afraid to show it. And why would he need to?
