How do you deal with the ups and downs? One second they are friendly, the next second they act like a total bitch. Does anyone know anyone like this? Any pointers?

Generally, lithium and depokate are prescribed by a psychiatrist....I've dealt with many bi-polar pts, and it us a duificult illness to deal with ,,,,If you have someone in your family with this diagnosis...get them to a physician, preferably apsychiatrst...ASAP!!!!

I dated someone who I think had this disorder, but refused to admit he had a problem (unless he was drunk, which was 90% of the time). There were some days when he was insanely happy, while the rest he couldn't even get out of bed or return a phone call.

Good lord. That's tough to deal with: when their up they're really up but when their down they're really down. It's tough meeting a balance because many things can affect their behavior (even a minor thing as the seasonal change). Even the body develops a tolerance over time to the medication and the only thing the psychiatrist can do is adjust the meds to the present prodromal at that time. The only thing you can have is patience and understanding.
