Well, here I am in a suit for the first time in 9 months, getting ready to venture out on a cold and rainy night to go to a wedding for a co-worker. Thanks sooooooooo much for inviting me. Since we have such a small company and not everyone in the company was invited (and I sit right next to the guy) I could not politely decline without getting caught up in some elaborate lie.

How do you feel about going to a co-worker's wedding? My opinion is that there is a very good chance that in 5 yrs this guy is not even going to remember me if either one of us leaves the company. And its not like either one of us would search the other out to hang out, there's about 13 yrs age difference between us and not much in common besides a common signature on a paycheck.

So all in all, I wish the guy did me a favor and didn't invite me. I wish him well and all but I have better things to do with my time and the money that I now have to give.

OK, time to go and get drunk and make an ass out of myself in front of my boss. Which is fine because he got drunk and made an ass out of himself in front of me 2 weeks ago at the Red Sox game.

Thanks for letting me vent, there's more but I have to get to the service. Ugh.

yea thats a shitty situation on both sides. he feels he has to invite you because for about a year before hand and 6 months after, that is all he is going to be talking about.

and as you stated, you feel like you have to go in order to not feel like a dick or make up a story.

i have been in this situation once. it sucks. i have nothing to help you out here besides the fact that there might be a hot bridesmaid / cousin who you could get lucky with.

I've mentioned how much I hate weddings enough times to dissuade my co-workers from ever inviting me.

No but I did get drunk and tell the groom that his new mother-in-law was hot! Boy, that was an uncomfortable moment. Oh well.

And my wife, God love her, told me that she thought the Priest who preformed the ceremony could probably kick my ass because he looked bigger than me. So I finished my wine and walked over to his table and said to him (much to my wife's horror)..."Hey Father, my wife thinks that you could kick my ass." He then stood up, I was about an inch or two taller but he was built like a fireplug. We then agreed we were both pacifists and went our separate ways.

WOW!! thats sounds like a hell of a night.

that would be have been a great story on its own. but with the backdrop of a co-workers wedding it becomes an instant classic!

way to call the priest out BTW.

You should have taken the padre down right where he stood TJ. That would've been a story that a bunch of people would have retold for years to come.

Perhaps then the wedding wouldn't have been so damned boring.

It's not a party unless the priest is unconcious.

However he gets that way is part of the fun.

i would decline unless i actually socialize with the co-worker during off-hours and consider him a 'friend'... any little excuse gets you off the hook

but it's a night out with the Mrs and you can have a nice dinner, dance, and have a few drinks and then go home and do the wild thing...
