What Happenes If I Ditch Out on Jury Duty?

So I got a summons to report to Jury Duty tomorrow, yet tomorrow I have to go to the doctor to get important letters from the doctor to return back to work. This is 100 times more important then jury duty. I dont know what to do. My mother told me to ditch out of jury duty and they will just summons me again. I just hope she knows what she's talking about.

Can anyone help me on this situation?

Get a doctor's note, and call them as soon as you're done.

Communication shows that you're not scoffing and ignoring them - they'll be a lot more willing to work something out with you if you don't ignore them.

The medical exam is because the fat old German lady doesnt know anything about giving physicals and is making me go to my own doctor and pay for it myself. Maybe tomorrow there will be another turn and cough post. A rectal exam would be a bonus.

When I was 21, I got a summons to appear for jury duty in Maryland. I screwed up and missed it, thinking it was the following day. Reading the penalties for missing jury duty, I freaked out and called them. They told me that despite the fact that I wasn't there, I was considered to have fulfilled my jury duty.

You know, you are entitled to have at least one postponement. I was scheduled for jury duty late last year, but I postponed it until July of this year. Luckily enough I never had to show up. I just called the jury hotline and checked my status and they kept telling me to check back the next day. By Thursday the message I got was that I was released from jury duty.

Click here (http://www.nyjuror.gov/general-information/questions-and-answers.php#5) for the New York Juror website, it says you are entitled to make one postponement which is automatic. So do it that way if you haven't postponed already and you'll avoid the chances of getting in trouble. Especially when you don't need to since you can get out of it pretty easily.


5. Can jurors postpone jury service for a later date?
You may apply -usually by mail or phone- to your local Commissioner of Jurors. Your first request for a postponement will be granted automatically. Subsequent requests for postponement will be considered individually by the Commissioner of Jurors Office.

Just hope that you don't get pulled over by a cop. I know a couple of people who just tossed their jury summons away and unbeknownst to them had warrants out for their arrest as a result. Then when they got pulled over by a cop for something minor they ended up going to jail.
