Ichiro is 1-2 so far tonight which puts him just 9 hits behind Sislers record with 10 games still remaining in the season. I think at this point its a given that he will beat the record. And frankly, good for him. He's an awesome hitter, and definitely deserving of the record. THoughts? Comments?

Much Thanks to Jester for the sig!
I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about.

This is probably the most under-appreciated record in all of baseball. Nobody realizes how great this acheivement really is. Even more unfortunate is the fact that hardly anybody knows anything about the man that has/had the record. In my opinion Ichiro will break the record and in all honesty I'm very happy for him, it's really an incredible feat.
<IMG SRC="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v53/monster6sixty6/guests/hhh3_sig.gif">
He's not even hitting .400, 85% of his hits are singles, and if he breaks the record, he will have done it in more than the 154 games in which George Sisler set the record.

Yeah, that and Hack Wilson's 190 RBI season are very forgotten.
Here's to you Suzuki, best of luck.

Well, we live in the age of the home run and RBI. The typical baseball "fan" doesnt care about other stats like Hits, OBP, and even runs scored. Ichiro gets recognition though, but plenty of great hitters are often overlooked. Its ridiculous how different hitters are perceived since the days of Tony Gwynn.

its amazing how good this guy is at the plate. what's more amazing is how he rarely swings and misses a pitch. i hate reading about how he may be trying harder for the record than he is to get his team a win. they are so far behind, what does it matter to him...some say you owe the fans a win...but if i was a fan at this point i would care more about him breaking the record than i would my team winning a meaningless game. i hope he breaks it.

Yeah but those singles are more then anyone else has hits. And he's hitting .375 which is nothing to sneeze at. He has 300 more at bat's then Bonds and has a higher average which is impressive. And as far as playing more games, that is just the way it is. But he is the only one to get this close to it since 1930. So if the eight games were that important you would think someone would have gotten close before. I hope he goes on a tear in the last week and breaks it by 15 hits so the eight extra games aren't brought up.

For the record, Sisler played in 154 games and had 257 hits. Ichiro thus far has played in 151 games and has 249 hits. It's not out of the question that he will still tie or beat Sisler's record on it's own timeframe.

I was just about to type that so thank you HBox,. but he has played in 152 so only 2 more games and 8 hits needed...which is not uncommon for him considering earlier this week he had 9 in two games.

Filthy hitter. Just filthy.
He could sacrifice average and hit 50 bombs, no problem. He hits bomb shots in BP. Like, Bonds type bomb shots

Fuckin awesome. Hes an awesome hitter and deserves this honor more than anyone else in the league. He definitely earned it and I dont know how soon someone will be able to accomplish something like this again.
