This past Friday night, I was coming home from visiting an old friend where he works. I take the usual route home like I always do. So, I get pulled over like 5-6 doors from my house. The cop tells me he pulled me over because I did`nt use my "Directional" which I know is bullshit because it`s a habit of mine. He then asks me why I`m in this neighborhood & I tell him because I live here in the `hood. So, he than says, "license , insurance , reg, please" I give him my stuff. He then comes back and says, "Jeff, step out please" & I say why? He then begins to tell me that I have outstanding warrants out of Newark, N.J. for unpaid parking tickets. I then tell him , "Dude, Your going to bust my balls over that'? He gets pissed and hooks me up...I`m on my way...

So, I get processed and put in the bullpen w/ like 40 other Dudes who think it`s a joke. The whole time , I`m freezing my balls off!

That was friday night at 9:30. I got home from my little trip at 2:30 Sat. afternoon. Oh fuckin` Happiness...

I had a similar situation about a month ago. I was out to lunch at work, got pulled over for the stickers on my plate which had finally come through the mail I just hadn't put them on yet.

I show the officer the stickers & he still asks for my lic/reg/ins. He comes back & asks me to step out & behind my truck. Two other black & whites show up. He asks me about a ticket I got 8 months or so earlier that is unpaid. I show him the USPS money order stub that was used to pay for it & mention that I hadn't received anything from DMV or the court about missing a court date or anything & as far as I know it was paid months ago.

Luckily I had shown him my family member gold PBA card. He tells me he's going to get me through it as easily as possible, but he's already called it in & because of the warrant I have to come to the station. I get cuffed & put in the back of the car. Luckily the station was about 100 yards away & my job was about 100 yards further.

So I was in & out in under 30 minutes & he gave me another break & didn't tow/impound my truck...but what a pain in the ass.

OK, maybe that's not so similar afterall, but either way I'm glad to hear it wasn't too-too bad on you.

I wish there was a way to check to see if there is anything outstanding against you so that you arent taken by suprise. I heard that if you skip jury duty or didnt pay a parking ticket that it kind of sits there in your record and then as soon as they run your license it comes up and you get cuffed. I dont know how theyd do it, like if there was a site somewhere where you could type in your license # and see whats against you. Maybe if they had it, more people would try and fix whatever is wrong! The way its set up now, shit is kinda snowballing on you and your not even aware of it. I had paid a ticket a few yers back by mail, and never got any kind of confirmation. For all I know, they never got it and the next time I get pulled over, Im fucked!

There is; its called paying attention to your bills and tickets, and paying them. Not that I do that, but Ive heard it works...

Thats a bummer NJ; sorry your weekend started that way; hope it ends better. Yow.

This reminds me of a song.

"Fuck da POlice, Fuck da POlice!"

But seriously, cops have a rough job and the guy was probably having a bad day. That doesn't excuse what he did which was fucked up.

I hope everything works out, sir.

its not fucked up, it is his job. just like it is your responsibility to pay the ticket on time.

99% of the time, if they let the person go, they would never straighten the ticket out anyway. by arresting them, they make sure it gets paid.

Agreed. If the word goes out that when you're pulled over with outstanding tickets and they let you go; who knows?

It is a bummer what happened; but I dont know what the officer's choice is in the matter, not your case, but lets say he runs the tags and it comes up a boatload of unpaid tickets; what's the SOP? Does the officer have a judgement call, or is it automatically haul you in?

I ask coz NJLDude's sounds like it was for parking tickets; so maybe its the cops call; its not like The Blues Brothers where the cops look at the computer after they run the Bluesmobile tags and it comes up flashing:

*MULTIPLE MOVING VIOLATIONS*

*IMPOUND VEHICLE*

*ARREST DRIVER*

-

I wanna hear more about lock up

Not at all!!! You have to understand that everytime a P.O. stops a vehicle...he has to run a plate check and a check on the driver's license...if you get an alarm on any of these....you must take action....if a violation comes up on the driver's license or there is an alarm on the car....discretion gets blown into the wind!!!!!

"Dude, Your going to bust my balls over that'

over the years my dad had to go to NYC to bail his brother out of jail over parking tickets and my brother spent the night in NJ. it sounds like from the quote above you purposely diregarded paying a ticket and if so you you got noone to blame but yourself. If the ticket was issued and you never found it on your car, then that sucks!

i know you can now pay tickets online 'they put the web-site location on the ticket' but not sure about being able to locate outstanding violations...

Wow, PBA card, your a proffesional bowler?

Really thought, how do those cards work? The Cops will most likely let you go on a minor violation?

If the ticket was issued and you never found it on your car, then that sucks!

That's what truly sucks. I go to school at Rutger Newark campus. The parking decks & two blocks worth of meters with more than 1 hour limit fill up before the 8:30 class & I don't always have one that early. So, EACH & EVERY TIME I park at another meter with only a 1 hour limit I take a chance of getting a $25 ticket for overtime at the meter because every class is at least 1hr 20min. Compound that with the fact that the "locals" seem to revel in removing tickets from windshields & you have a formula for bad times.

I've probably gotten 12-15 tickets on that campus over the last 2 years & I think I've been able/aware to take the ticket home maybe 3 times. The rest were lovely little surprises when the court document came in the mail telling me I have to now pay double because of a fine for not paying the initial charge.

I can't wait to be done with that f'n school (& court system).

The best thing you can do with regards to paying violations through the mail, whether it is a traffic or moving violation. Is send it certified mail. If there is something that says you never paid it, ceritified mail is your basic proof of it being sent. I once had a situation where my plate number was mixed up with someone elses and I got this ticket in the mail, the plate number on the ticket was the same as mine, but the car description was totally off, plus i was at work that day. My boss wrote a letter attesting to the fact that I worked that day, and I included my car info. I then went to the post office and sent it back to the DMV certified mail. I got a letter back from the DMV apologizing that it was a clerical error. But after that incident I talked with a friend who was on the force and he said the best thing you can do when paying your ticket is send it certified mail.

Fucking A well told Reef-Meister, I forgot about that one. Taxes; state and fed and house, anything that has to go to the Township; basically anything that could come back and bite me on the ass, I send certified. Expensive but that card you get back sure makes the difference. You want proof, well Here, YOU Guys signed for it when you got it.

Oh, and to bring this a bit back on point; how you doin' NJLD? Hope everything is OK.

And we havent heard any lock up stories; we want Dirt.
