He said it would include "The Great Lighthouse," which will be a 60 story building with a 10,000 square foot observatory deck for sight-seeing with a hundred mile of unobstructed view.
Awesome. I also envisioned something along these lines. It looks like they'll be building similar to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard, but on a much grander scale.

Actually, it wasn't even the county.
Wang had finally gotten everyone lined up except for one person- the supervisor of the Town of Hempstead.
The state, the county, the team, the banks, the NHL, the fans... all thought they had it done, and this one cunt spiked it.

They told Wang that the town didn't want the retail and residential component, but it was that part that was going to ensure the thing would be profitable year round. Speculation is that the town board wound up in the pockets of the Simon, who owns and runs the nearby big malls.

Hardee har har. Free agents complain about the arena, yet when they do play here they wind up loving it. Doug Weight, one of the classiest guys to play, loved it here and is staying with the team to coach and help in the front office. He could have gone anywhere but he stayed. The arena definitely hurts the team. But look at the Penguins before they got their new arena. They started to win, thus people wanted to play for them. Same with the Red Wings. Their arena is as worse as the Coliseum, but free agents go there too. It's about winning.

There are Isles fans. They had a few sell outs last year. But when they team doesn't win, fans tend not to show up. It's like that in almost every sport. I'm tired of everyone shitting on the area and the fans. The team is getting better. They have really good young players and they are locking them up instead of trading them. I give Garth Snow credit. He picked up Moulson and Graber for nothing and has gotten great production from both.

Lets be honest, why would someone want to play for the 3rd team in the area? The Devils are the better org and the Rangers have the majority of the fan base. The Islanders have no fans and are a shit franchise (at least for the last 25 years) I actually think the Islanders might be 1 of the worst org in all of sports! They need to let them move, maybe go to Canada or somewhere else!

You didn't read the proposal I'm guessing. If it's passed, taxes won't go up. If it fails, taxes go up and the arena is knocked down b/c it's not viable for just concerts. The Devils don't draw and they got a new arena. So, don't give me the "no one cares" argument. You speak on something you have no knowledge of.

The new arena, along with a minor league ballpark and whatever else is built on the site will create thousands of jobs, which is why the unions want it. The arena would also attract more concerts/events. It's $400 in bonds they would be using. $350 for the arena and wang have said he will cover every dollar over the $350 amount needed for the new arena. The county needs revenue, which a new arena will bring in.

I'm not an islanders fan but when I lived there they went from being a total joke with empty building to decent with packed house, and then of course back to a joke. New owner and new building would be good for them. The devils can't even sell out when theyre a playoff team. I doubt this arena gets built. Before the 1995–96 season the Islanders attempted to update their look. The result was the unveiling of a logo depicting a fisherman holding a hockey stick.
