is this another round of 'nerd trappings' ...?

the early geek rumour i read was it would be a WB-like show with a young boba fett coming of age seeking revenge in the rise of the empire ...

they should give the project to the guys doing the clonewars cartoons, they're the best lucas project in decades ...

well, lucas has said repeatedly over the last few weeks that the movie aspect of this story is done with ... really wants to use tv as a medium to further tell his story ...

So if the WB does basically a Smallville of Star Wars where you replace Clark Kent with young Boba Fett, it's probably gonna suck. But I do believe the only way they can do that kind of show successfully is if the Clone Wars writers take that show. If anything, let the Clone Wars guys make their own animated show about the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. That would be something I'd watch.

Indeed.

In fact, I would argue that one of the final Clone Wars episodes - the big Jedi battle against General Grievous - was better than any lightsaber battle in either of the prequel movies. Hell, that 5 minute episode completely blows away BOTH prequel flicks.

They should set it on Earth, and have that bitch-boy from American Pie play Poo-See Fahg. And they could even have a great tag line.

THIS FALL, THE FORCE IS WITH US!

And you'd have like a whole army of beautiful people fighting each other with lightsabres and discussing their virginity or lack thereof.

That would own.

Right, They've ignored all his Star Wars references for 10 years (George Mentions Clerks in the AOTC Comentary, but thinks Jay and Silen Bob talked about the Independent Contractors who died while building the Second Death Star) and now they want him to work for them?

no good can come of this,

the clone wars cartoon was the fantastic, also for anyone looking for the contiuing story of luke and the the old gang pick up the Timothy Zahn novels, he did five in total and the first three are also availible in comic book form from darkhorse comics, but he really got it, the charethers are dead on in my opinion

Is it supposed to be a live-action show or a cartoon? Furthermore, is Mark Hammil a necrophiliac?

I've got a better question - what makes anyone think that Kevin Smith has the talent to do such a show?

I'm as critical of the new Star Wars work (since the prequels began) as a guy can be, but even I know Lucas can hire guys 1,000x more capable of doing this show than Smith.

You do? Because he sure as shit hasn't done it for either of his last movies. I mean, he had Spielberg BEGGING to direct just ONE film in the latest trilogy, and Lucas turned him away. Thusly, Lucas' track record of monumentally stupid douchebaggery stays strong.

from the force.net

a tidbit from the recent UK SFX Magazine (Christmas 2004):

SFX has been told of plans afoot for the promised Star Wars television series. Contrary to rumours suggesting a Boba Fett serial or a live-action show, SFX understands the plan is to produce a fully CG Clone Wars series, taking place in the 20-odd years between Episodes III and IV, following the growth of the Rebellion and the formation of the Empire.

No, they'd replace Clark Kent with Han Solo and Lex Luthor with Greedo.

It would still suck. It'd be better if they just ditched the trilogies timeline and went with a Knights of the Old Republic style.

Out of all the director commentaries on the DVD's, his is the most interesting. I hate Ben Burtt talk for twenty fucking minutes about how he got the sound of a lightsaber by squeezing a lions nuts and so forth.

Lucasfilm has confirmed that Star Wars: The Clone Wars will premiere in theaters as a feature film on August 15 before becoming a half-hour animated TV series in the fall on Cartoon Network and TNT.

A new era of Star Wars entertainment begins in 2008 when "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," from creator George Lucas, premieres as an all-new feature film in August, followed by the television series debut in the fall, in a partnership announced today between Lucasfilm Ltd., Warner Bros. Pictures and Turner Broadcasting System Inc.

Produced by Lucasfilm Animation, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" takes audiences on incredible new "Star Wars" adventures, combining the legendary storytelling of Lucasfilm with an eye-popping, signature animation style. "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will open in North American theaters Friday, August 15. International release dates will be announced soon.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars" showcases an entirely new look and feel to the galaxy far, far away – combining the expansive scope of the "Star Wars" Saga with state-of-the-art computer-generated animation. Each week, viewers will see a thrilling, 30-minute "mini-movie" created by the talented artists at Lucasfilm Animation.

On the front lines of an intergalactic struggle between good and evil, fans young and old will join such favorite characters as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala, along with brand-new heroes like Anakin's padawan learner, Ahsoka. Sinister villains – led by Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous – are poised to rule the galaxy. Their exploits lead to the action-packed battles and astonishing new revelations that fill "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."

I'm so done with the SW universe that I almost didn't bother to read this thread. I've never been more disappointed at a movie than I was at ALL THREE of those craptastic prequels.

This new show is a guaranteed misfire.
And you can bet yer ass the animation is gonna be heavily influenced by Anime. And most likely will feature style over substance.

Having said all that, I would buy the soundtrack if John Williams was the composer.

I am not going to a theater to watch another Star Wars movie. I saw them all in theaters (all 6) They finished the films. I would watch it on TV, the trailer doesn't look too bad.

So Fox is out? This is Warner Brothers and TNT?

there are (or were) two TV projects -- one animated, clone wars based series this fall, and a live-action (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_live-action_TV_series), 'dark times' era series to follow in 2010

Meh...they really need to change it up and go with a completely different time period if they want to keep churning out Star Wars stuff.

Knights of the Old Republic era would have been a fantastic way to go...from playing the games, there's a lot of story there, and it'd be something completely different from all the current stuff.

They could hand that series off to some nerds to write, and let them run with it. I'd watch it. I can't see me checking out the 'chapter in between the first and second trilogies.' I've had enough of them.
