After it blew it lit up the biggest cigarette I have ever seen and told the mountain next to it "Sure baby, I'll call you."

Mt. St. Helens is about 70 miles from my office. In case anyone is concerned for my safety, I was just outside and can report with confidence that our streets are lava-free.

I still recall that fateful day of May 18, 1980 when St. Helens rained death and destruction upon the region. However, an even greater tragedy occured that same day across the pond in England, when we lost the conscience of a generation, Ian Curtis of Joy Division.

Kennethc, you consider the lose of this person more important than the 57 people who lost their lives in the original explosion??

Fuckin'-A, man.

The silly thing about Curtis dying is that he peobably would have made the front pages in the UK for killing himself, but got bumped by the volcano.

That, and suicide is ridiculous.

But then again, so is living by a volcano.

Reeshy,
I certainly don't rate the death of Ian Curtis above the deaths of the 57 who perished in the 1980 blast. The tragedy of those deaths is of course greater than a pampered rock star's suicide. I was being ridiculously hyperbolic in a rather dry and lame attempt at humor. In fact, I'm not even the world's biggest Joy Division fan. Curtis' canonization by the "I wear black on the outside 'cause that's the way I feel on the inside" death cult is comically overblown. My post was in the vein of "tragedy plus time equals comedy." My attonement is that I'm now pourin' out what remains of my morning bottle of St. Ides in loving tribute of my fallen 57 homies:

Let's get ready to rumble.

MOUNT ST. HELENS NATIONAL MONUMENT, Washington (AP) -- Mount St. Helens blew off a spectacular cloud of steam and ash on Tuesday, the biggest plume yet in days of rumblings and the latest indication that a larger eruption may be in the works. MOUNT ST. HELENS, Wash. -- Scientists said the earthquakes and explosions at Mount St. Helens could lead to an eruption as powerful as the one in 1980, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Not sure. Maybe he wasn't sharing his half a doobie.

As for the volcano, the new said there's no chance right now it will erupt. So fuck it.
