Also did ya notice Seth Meyers (Kerry) mouthing the script while Affleck (Carvelle) was talkin' at the beginning? It looked like someone on the side of the stage told Meyers to stop and then he bit his lip. If I'm noticing stuff like that, it must be bad.

This cast is just bad. I'm so bored I'll probably watch the whole thing though. I just hope they have some people who can do good Cheney and Edwards impressions. I know Hammond does a great Cheney, and Edwards is an easier impression than Kerry, so maybe they can do a VP debate parody next week. But unless they get Ferrell back, just forget about the debates.

SNL has sucked for quite a few seasons, it started going downhill when everyone followed Tim Meadows leaving. And then when Ferrell left it just sucked even more. The only one one the cast that is good is Darrell Hammond.

It's possible that it wasn't actually Don Pardo. According to the SNL book by Tom Shayles...Darryl Hammond would often "fill in" for Don Pardo. Seeing as Hammond WAS there...it's possible he did the announcing.

The guy doing Bush is horrifiic. I mean, he had some nuances down, but that was a bomb off the bat. They had all summer to work on that and they come up with that, after seeing Ferrell and Hammond go at it previously? I've heard Hammond did a better Bush than Ferrell(but he does Gore/Clinton since Ferrell couldn't do them), why not let him run with it.

And the Weekend Update girls may be batchworthy, but they make Kevin Nealon look like Dennis Miller doing weekend update.

The Dratch the downer sketch was a nightmare, I kept waiting for them to break the 4th wall and admit the sketch being that bad was part of the joke but that obviously never happened.

Bad, bad, bad. Though I do like when Affleck hosts and his Carvell was funny. The opening skit was terrible and lasted almost 15 minutes and they did too much Bush/Kerry throughout the night.

I loved the Debbie Downer skit last year, the cast had a good reason to crack up. Tonights was fucking brutal and Rachael was talking over people to get her lines out.

I was hoping Tina Fey (http://www.tinafey.net) would taker over WU by herself, but I think Poehler could be good with more practice. Finally, a weekend update I can jerkoff too. Haven't been able to do that since Norm hosted.

Jimmy Fallon was smart to leave, even if it was to do horrible movies like Taxi.

There are sooo many FUNNY people in Show Business. Why does SNL insist on hiring unfunny people to host ?! I don't equate John Goodman, Alec Baldwin, (or Affleck or Latifah) with humor. Not in the least.


My concept to upgrade SNL is to have a "team" host the show. EXAMPLE:

The Kids In The Hall
Penn & Teller
The Cast of Friends (back when they were together)
or the voice talents of the Simpsons.
Hell... reunite all the Brady Kids!

AAANYTHING to open up the comic possibilites would be welcome. It's time to rejuvenate the show. Obviously.

I'll be the first to admit, this is the first SNL I've watched on Saturday Night in over 4 or 5 years. With that being said, I thought Weekend Update was the best skit of the night. Really? I think they're some of the best "regular" hosts SNL has had over the years, right up there with Tom Hanks, Steve Martin and Christopher Walken. Baldwin especially. He's always seemed to fit right onto the show...I mean, he deserves props for "Canteen Boy" and "Schweaty Balls" alone.

Will Forte and Seth Meyers are really funny. I promise. Just can't be the guys you put the show on to succeed or fail.

I was just talkin to a friend of mine that there has to be a younger guy out there that can be brought on the show to be the male lead. The ladies are funny, that's why Weekend Update really seemed to be great and could be better than the Tina and Jimmy ones definitely (Amy Poehler > Jimmy Fallon on any day of the week). I even like Rachel Dratch and Maya Rudolph. None of the young guys are premier guy material though and thats definitely a problem.



And even saying Horatio Sanz is funny sarcastically gives an angel cancer. I promise you that.

I didn't think the show was horrible - not great - not even really good - but the first half hour, at least, wasn't the train wreck I've seen in more recent years.

The Debate opening had some good lines - they really didn't do much more than mimic something that was already crammed full of real humor. I really liked the lines about Bush working on weekends, and Kerry making the distinction between flip-flopping and pandering to the audience.

The monologe with Alec Baldwin was maybe the weakest part of the first 30 minutes, but I really have seen worse; the "Boner uice" commerical was as good as they get these days with fake commercials; "Debbie Downer" wasn't nearly as funny as the time they did it last year when everyone, including Rachel Dratch, laughed all through it - it just reminds me of real life party killers I've been subjected to; the bit with Kerry and James Carvelle made me laugh because of Maya Rudolph as the flipped out and horny Tereza Heinz-Kerry and the under-used Darrell Hammond as Clinton, who must have done something wrong to still be on the show for 10 years now, and they maybe put him in one skit per show.

The news, with Tiny and Amy, was all right - not the best, but not at all close to the worst; Horatio Santz was funny when he sang as Elton John, but crashed and burned when he tried to talk and joke (I always laugh at how bad he is), and Gandolfini was funny in his little cameo. I did not miss Jimmy Fallon.

I stopped watching after the news because I didn't want to push my luck - I really haven't found the show very good the last few years, but will watch it from time to time because, after 35 years, I'd still rather have a bad SNL on the air trying out new things with new people, than not have it on at all.
