I know there a lot of ECW fans around here, so I thought I wouls share. I got an email today from Highspots & just before I deleted it, I saw this (http://www.highspots.com/www/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?AffiliateID=46&Store_id=125&page_id=23&Item_ID=10698):

(Scheduled release date has been moved back by the WWE to November 9 and WWE has now decided to make this a DOUBLE DVD instead of a single DVD)

Follow the rise and fall of Extreme Championship Wrestling on this special Double DVD release!
ECW redefined professional wrestling in the '90s with a reckless, brutal, death-defying, and often bloody style that came to be known as "hardcore." It attracted a rabid, cult-like following that is still going strong today.

This 6-hour, 2-disc set follows the rise and eventual demise of the company that raised the bar and revolutionized sports-entertainment forever.

DVD Extras:
Seven bonus matches, including:

- The Pit Bulls vs. Raven & Stevie Richards
2 out of 3 Falls Dog Collar Match for ECW World Tag Team Championship
Gangsta's Paradise - Philadelphia, PA (09-16-95)
- Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Psichosis
2 out of 3 Falls, Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA (10-17-95)
- Mikey Whipwreck vs. The Sandman
Ladder Match for ECW Championship
Hardcore TV - Philadelphia, PA (10-28-95)
- 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Sabu
ECW TV Championship Match
CyberSlam - Philadelphia, PA (02-17-96)
- Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven
WrestlePalooza - Philadelphia, PA (06-06-)97
(Alternate Commentary)
- Tazz vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
ECW TV Championship Match
Living Dangerously - Asbury Park, NY (03-01-98)
(Alternate Commentary)
- RVD vs. Jerry Lynn
ECW World Television Championship Match
Hardcore Heaven - Poughkeepsie, NY (05-16-99)
(Alternate Commentary)
- Steven Richards Apologizes for Leaving ECW
- Tazz Seeks Paul Heyman's Blessing
- Paul Heyman: Travel Agent

here's why any ECW fan who still loves ECWSHOULDN't pick this up:

1. this is going to be more biased then that "monday night Wars" Only ECW people that work for WWE are interviewed and Paul Heyman has ZERO control on this project.

2. Much of the great stars from ECW won't be featured. For example, Shane Douglas won't be in it since he owns all rights to his name, likeness, and footage.

3. No Joey Styles!!!!

4. I guarentee you that all facts will be twisted and "forgotten"...you know, like the minor fact that ECW was forced off TNN illegaly by the WWE

(for those that don't know, ECW had a clause in their contract that if they maintain a certain rating, they stay on TNN. ECW was doing so, but when Viacock got WWE programming, they out of the blue took ECW off the air because Vince didn't want it on the same network as his programming...I still want to know the reasin why ECW didn't sue over breach of contract)

one glaring omission I know of: WWE won't admit-if it wasn't for ECW and stealing the idea of the edgy-style programming ECW did, WCWwould have put Vince out of business

That sucks. There really should never be an ECW retrospective without Shane. Besides, how do you start off the disc without the footage of Shane throwing down the NWA title?

3. No Joey Styles!!!!
Shit, I never even considered that. I wondered why the bonus matches were mostly ones that had already appeared on ECW DVDs. Then I realized they said "alternate commentary" next to each. Wow, if his voice isn't calling the every match, it just won't feel like you're watching ECW. And, God forbid, they let someone who never was involved in ECW do commentary (like JR or the King), I will have to take a drive up 95 to Titan Towers to get my refund.

Suddenly, I'm not quite as anxious to get this as I was last night.

the King was part of one of my favorite ECW angles. he played the WWF role, but he did a few appearances and wrestled a match or two. his first appearance was awesome...in the cage. they gave dreamer an great beatdown. i loved when ECW would shut the lights off for a surprise appearance...and his was great.

True, and his involvment with the ECW/WWF crossover angles were well used, but I never want to hear his voice call an ECW match. I might break a TV if I ever hear him refer to Francine's "puppies."

Got my copy yesterday & got through almost the entire first disc. Not a lot of wrestling, more like a documentary where it shows bits & pieces of matches, but none in full. Lots of interviews with the wrestlers, plus Vince & Easy E. I really like the way they put it together so far.

It does still have Joey's calls of the matches, and even cutaways to him in front of the ECW flags, but I know it would be so much better if you could hear his thoughts on some of the stuff...and sadly, this is missing.

Anyone else pick this up yet?

I wasn't even really a fan of ECW, but still, I wouldn't pick this up, even if I was a fan, considering how I generally can't stomach the WWE's revisions of history.

Shit, I never even considered that. I wondered why the bonus matches were mostly ones that had already appeared on ECW DVDs. Then I realized they said "alternate commentary" next to each. Wow, if his voice isn't calling the every match, it just won't feel like you're watching ECW.

I hate, hate, HATE the WWE commentaries of classic matches / footage. Some of the commentary on the Eddy / Benoit discs is just BAD.

Note to WWE: I never want to hear Michael Cole or Todd Grisham or any of your other shitty excuses for play-by-play men commentating on classic matches. NEVER.

Just my random thoughts after watching:

-I can't believe they gave the documentary part almost
3 hours. That rocks.

-I am glad they included some of the Bubba Ray vs. The
Fans stuff unedited. That was pure gold.

-I forgot how ugly Francine was.

-I forgot how hot Tammy Sytch and Lita used to be.

-I'm glad I got to see Tazz's glory days. God he rocked
that fed.

-I forgot how much of a dick Bischoff is. He didn't even
pretend not to be.

-Kind of pissed that they showed Tazz losing to HHH
after he beat Mike Awesome, but I am not surprised.
At least Vince kind of admitted that it was a mistake.

-I wish they showed more of the "WWF Invasion" stuff
with Lawler, Brakus, Van Dam, and Sabu.

- I wish they showed the two tap out victories for Tazz
over Douglas for the Television and World titles.

Excellent DVD. Maybe the best I have seen from the WWE.

Things that are missing...

Pillman.

I'm sure that Pillman couldn't be used because 1) he's dead, 2) Shane Douglas would have nothing to do with this, and 3) Austin's on the outs with WWE right now. But still, Pillman going crazy was classic ECW.

2) Why the hell wasn't there any interviews with Deano Machino or Lita? I mean, Dawn Marie wasn't an integral part of ECW til late, and she's a major component of this DVD.

Not that I'm complaining. Nice dress, Dawn. Jeez.

3) The missing 4-way dance with Jericho, PB2, Too COld, and Shane. That really annoys me.

(Maybe they are saving that for a best of ECW DVD down the road?)

The match selection was really irksome. None of these matches really had a massive impact on ECW outside of the Taz/Bigelow match. Where are the Gangstas? The Eliminators?

DOC AND GORDY

DOC AND GORDY

DOC AND GORDY.

It was the first time i ever saw the Austin ECW promos. That was great shit.

I'm surprised that Missy Hyatt wasn't on this DVD, considering that she was Sandman's valet for much longer than WOMAN was. But WOMAN got a huge amount of face time.

I'm really shocked that they didn't interview Nancy, considering she is, after all, BENOIT'S WIFE. Unless she's not that TV friendly anymore.

It's funny. Dreamer, Paul E, Stevie, and everyone else gained weight, but Bubba Ray LOST weight.

I loved the DVD and I love Dreamer but they shitted on Justin Credible when they showed Taz dropping the belt to Dreamer ,never showed that he lost it to Credible 15 min. later and then Dreamer says Heyman put the belt on him since he knew he wasnt leaving, sounding like he kept it after that night. On Byte this though they did give Credible props.Plus their was no Steve Corino..at all as if he was never their, and their should have been like 10-15 matches that would of made the dvd probably the best ever...in my opinion!

Now that I think about it, they didn't say a word abot how ECW reformed on RAW that night. As much as it sucked after that one night they should have showed how RVD and Dreamer came out and how the former ECW guys turned on the WWF guys. That was a mark out moment if I ever saw one.

I'M GETTING BILLY STAPLES BIG ASS CARD!!!

That was never ECW. That a failed subplot of the Alliance angle.

The only remnant of how "Extreme" the WWE got is the size of Steph's chest.

The missing Pillman stuff is a huge letdown to me in an otherwise stellar effort. This was 4 brillant years they were trying to compress, where virtually every angle and TV show is worth viewing as a whole from at least 95-97.

The one glaring thing I missed was their tribute to Louie Spicoli, who had defected to WCW previously. I found Paul E.'s speech where he said "Unlike some organizations who use it as a catch phrase, here, truly, when you are ECW , you are ECW for life"

No moment better summed up that company for me.

I got to see the documentry part of this yeasterday. I was never a big fan of ECW just because I was away at college while it was really starting to get hot, so I never got a chance to see it. A couple of things I came away with after seeing this were:

1) Paul Heyman and some of the wrestlers would have done it for free because they loved it so much.

2) It must be fun to be in a room with Heyman and Bischoff.

I have a question, though. Vince McMahon did alot for ECW. What does everyone believe? It comes across as he was trying to help them survive when he could, but would he really do that?

I wouldn't read too much altruism into Vince's actions.

Both he and Bischoff were in it to raid ECW of its talent and of its ideas. Bischoff mainly stole ECW's talent - something that he denies, but he did. Vince stole both talent and IDEAS (the "Attitude" era owed a lot to the edgy stuff Heyman was doing in ECW). The only difference was that Vince wanted to keep them around so that he could steal more talent & ideas in the future. The only real difference between Vince & Eric was that Eric was only concerned with what he could take from ECW at any given point in time - he didn't give a shit, really, about ECW's long term survival, whereas Vince wanted to keep them around almost as a sort of WWE farm league.

Is there any other quality DVD out there that reviews the history of ECW? BTW, what is Joey Stiles doing now?
