Im using Windows XP Home.
Windows auto Update notified me it wants to install Service Pack 2.
Ive heard it could be trouble.
Should i let it install? Or ignore it and have that reminder in my task bar forever?

anyone know if SP 2 will screw things up?

Thanks.

I have avoided downloading SP2. Though Windows Update now has a custom install option which I use and I download security updates and other things, but not necessarily things tied into Service Pack 2.

It depends on your situation. Most of the issues that I've heard with SP2 revolve around business-type software (stuff like Nortel's VPN client, and Novell networking software). If you feel that the security enhancements outweigh any other risk involved with installing it, then by all means do so.

I usually adopt a "wait and see" attitude about updates like this. I'll wait a month or so until a certain number of issues or bugs have been dealt with and the service pack repaired before I install.

If you do install, you should set a restore point prior to installation, (or if you have software like Symantec Ghost, take an image of your HD) and use it to back out should the update cause issues.
