View Full Version : CD-R's
for anyone who uses them alot what is your brand preference? I bought this brand from work called DYNEX, (aka best Buy) more than half of the ones Ive used so far dont work. Is there such a thing as a bad brand? Or is my burner a piece of shit. Oh and if I replace my CD burner with a DVD burner can I still make CD-R's?

AG, I had a lot of problems with TDK, but everything else worked OK.

A mind is a terrible thing to dyworf.
On occasion, you can get ripped with generic brands. Spend the extra dough and get some Maxell, Sony, or some other name brand.
Even cheap cd burners usually perform well, but it's possible you got a bad unit. Buy some good cd's and see if you have the same problem.

I mostly use Sony, but always try to stick to name brands. The cheap generics fail too often.

I never use generic. Never worth it. I have had a lot of problems with memorex, so I would even stay away from that.
For all my media, I tend to use Sony Products. DVD-R and Cd-R I use the sony disks in the yellow containers. Also, if you buy them in the spindle, also buy blank jewel cases to keep the newly burned CD's from scratching.

I use TDK, Sony, and I've found HP CD-R's which are generally cheaper work very well. I've never had a problem with any of these.

What ever non generic brand is on sale at Best Buy or Staples the day I go buy them..
Fujifilm or Memorex usually. But as long as it is not a no name generibrand and it's cheap I will get them. Never had any problems.
Just don't go burning everything at 48x and you'll be fine.

i prefer TDK, but they sometime are hard to find ... i choose CD-Rs for the face color rather than brand -- memorex and no-names tend to be blue, where as TDK are closer to silver ...

ok I guess I wont ever buy DYnex again. I too have had problems with Memorex in the past but it wasnt as many that were bad in a row. Usually like every 10th one was bad, unlike every other one with dynex
