Google unveiled their latest thing this week with Google Desktop, which indexes you computer, chat logs, email, etc. and lets you then search them all. I downloaded it today, but haven't really given it a chance to index my machine to see what it can do.

i just downloaded this to my work computer and its awesome. ten times easier to find documents and email.

It doth rock, but beware. If you are on a multi-user computer (i.e. shared with other people and using passwords on multiple accounts) , Google Desktop will index all files, regardless of user and make private files viewable by the others

I was reading on some sites that it leaves you computer out in the open for attacks and is more or less spyware. Sorry I don't have an exact site for a source, but i've read this on different sites

Well, Roger Waters erased my hard drive. Then Syd Barrett drained my checking account. Finally, David Gilmour tried to molest my dog.

my work computer is only used by me so this is the coolest. I get around 75 emails a day and save all of them and its hard to find what im looking for using the outlook find function. the google desktop works 10x better.

And reefy, way to be way behind the curve on that one...

I'd also say turn off the AIM and email logging too.. wouldn't want someone else reading your personal chats and emails. HTTPS traffic can be indexed too, that might raise some concerns.

On mine I disabled AIM logging and internet history. I'll keep all that to myself, thank you.

The Google email search is great. It's almost instant, unlike Outlook's search, and even lets you view the emails as a thread
