I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about.

As Jon pointed out, the media section is a good source. We regularly add the best show segments from the previous week.

Here's a guide to what's in there (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/46/Topic/39220/page/File_Library___Mach_II.htm)

Seriously, here's how you get the shows in mp3. Record the shows directly to your pc. Or via a tape recorder and then transfer the audio via a line-in cable to record as a .wav file. Then use an audio editing program and convert the format from .wav to .mp3

By the way what's better, mp3 or MPEG-2 Layer 3 format files?

Mikey, dont let your head explode.

I'm not sure of the difference, in fact i'm not sure they aren't the same thing; there's MPEG 1,2,2.5,3, and 4. And different layers.

What is different in each is the balance between sampling frequencies and bit rates. And different ones were used for different media, some were designed for use with HDTV, some with Music Audio, some with Broadcast audio.

I think.

The ones used in Video also encode that, at 30 frames [29.97 really, but Mikeyboys head...] a second.

[aside; Video is 30 fps. But Film was/is shot at 24 frames per second. So when they transfer film to VHS [and I think DVD], they have two frames of film, and then a third is inserted, the same as frame 2. Frame 1,2,3,3,4,5,6,6,7,8,9,9... I'm pretty sure is what you see on VHS, hence when you slow scroll through your porn, you see every third frame is the same. fuck that was long.]

A 64kHz/sec bit rate is just fine for talk radio, but 128 is the minimum, usually for iPod Music.

But there is a difference reef, because the sampling rate differs, how I dont know how, coz 44.1 and 48kHz are standards. Mikeyboy, that means a CD/MP3 player takes a snapshot of the sound 44,100 times a second, and encodes it in ones and zeroes.

101001000111011100
101000101011101011
011001010101111101
101010110010101010
101001011111101000

You hear that? Now THATS Rock!

[OH: MP3, stands for MPEG, which is the Motion Pictures Expert Group. Nice fucking way to name yourselves! Coz JEPG is smething like Joint Pictures Expert Group. Buncha snobs!

And Wav just means un-compressed audio.

Good = Sounds just like your CD

No Good = It eats memory at over 1MB a second.

BUT

With a 600000 Gig iPod out in 2008 or whenever, people can digitize their entire audio and video collections, uncompressed, so we'll look back at MP3 like 8tracks and 78s and edison cylinders....]

Question..

Since R&F is an over the air broadcast on public radio would sharing the shows be considered illegal?
