We just got back from a super-long vacation in the Southwest. It was a ton of fun, and we managed to save a lot of money using Hotwire and the like.
In fact, I got a 3-star hotel for 60 percent off the "Internet Rate"... pretty sweet deal.
Also, because the rental car place fucked up, I got an upgrade and a 30 percent off discount. So for one night of having a Chrysler 300M, I went back the next morning and traded to a PT Cruiser Convertible... which was a sweet, sweet car.
XM Satellite radio - I can't say enough about it, especially when you're on a desert and mountain highway going to Vegas. It was GREAT. Hardly any dropouts, and plenty of music choices to listen to.
Some recommendations:
Vegas - going in the middle of the week is a no-brainer, but a hotel you might want to try is the Riviera. It's a little cheesey, BUT I paid 100 bucks for a beautiful suite. The suite was bigger than my current apartment. NICE.
It was funny - with Kerry and Bush in town, there was nary a cop to be found ANYWHERE. I noticed as I was driving that I didn't see a single cop on any of the major highways.
Seeing Air Force One flying over my hotel - very cool.
I'll post some pics if people wnat to see.
