I haven't seen a thread on this, or in search, however who do you predict will win on election day?
Note, this isn't to say who you want to be in there, but you do you think at this stage in the game will end up winning the election?
My feeling is that at this point that Bush is going to win by several points, that it will be close, though not as close as in the last election. I also think that Nader will take 2-3% of the vote away from Kerry as well.
I'm not saying this because I am voting for him, but based on the way things are going right now.
Do you think it will be
- Bush
- Kerry
- Nader

Hmm...this is a toughy. I think...there's gonna be another terrorist attack before the election. If one does happen, Kerry will win. If not, Bush.

I think, unfortunately, that Bush will win.
I also predict voting problems in Ohio, much like Florida's in 2000.
And protests. Massive protests if he wins. Call in the National Guard kind of protests. It will be very, very messy.

No way do I want to predict anything. My gut reaction is that Bush is going to get this again, but there are many things in motion right now, so much can change.
I am sure that this is going to be closer than last time. I think what we are learning from the polls is that we don't know anything; caller ID has made it very tough to get a good, objective count of people who will give honest answers. The numbers we are seeing are the numbers of folks who decide to answer their phone and give their opinions - we have no way to know what those who decide to ignore the calls are thinking.
Aside from the people who do not answer polls, there are lots of first time voters going out. Also, if the democrats can get their base energized the way the republicans have (there are more registered democrats than republicans), then it should be interesting.
According to electoral-vote.com (http://www.electoral-vote.com/), which takes all of the polls, mesh them out, and spit out a map of the way the election would go if were held today, Kerry would win. It's the first time I've seen him ahead on this map for two days in a row, in the two months I've been looking at it.
Electoral Vote Predictor 2004:
Kerry 291 Bush 247
As of yesterday there seemed to be more votes that they consider to be "strong Kerry" than with "strong Bush,"but that's shifted today.
Ugh
I wouldn't be surprised if we still don't know who won on November 3rd.

Well, kids picked Kerry to win. (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=494&u=/ap/20041020/ap_en_tv/nickelodeon_president_4&printer=1) I've always found this interesting, based on Nickelodian's website kids picked Kerry to win and they have correctly picked the president the last four times. These things interest me more than anything, though I don't hold these or polls as any real indicator, more out of something interesting.

Neither of those are really prediction threads. Especially that stoopid Bush in a landslide thread by that goofy Reefy character. This particular thread is more scientific and less partisan in nature and is closer to the actual election that I think it deserves it's own thread.

They picked Gore in 2000.
Also, Scholastic's poll (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041020/nyw076_1.html) chose Bush 52-47. Scholastic has correctly predicted every race in the last 40 years with the exception of Truman-Dewey and Nixon-Kennedy. So, the kids who read chose Bush, while the kids who watch TV picked Kerry. Interesting...

The funny thing was that most people who listened to the Nixon-Kennedy debates on the radio thought that NIXON won. Those watching on TV gave the edge to Kennedy partly because of his purty face -- and Nixon's 5 o'clock shadow.

Yes, that is indeed the old chestnut...but I gotta wonder if that really "proved" anything. JFK stole the election, so maybe it was just the people who were going to vote Dick anyway that thought he won it. Personally, I've watched the entire thing, and NEITHER of them really seemed all that spectacular in what they said. Both were just very vague and treading water...and besides, Nixon even SOUNDS jowel-y.
But forget Nixon's stubble. It's the clammy flop-sweat that got him.
Imagine the smell.
Delicious.

Yeah but his old man only bought the election with cash bribes.
It wasn't as if he had a brother who was governor of a disputed state or if he used partisan Supreme Court justices appointed by his father working on his behalf. Now that's plain evil.

NYD is kinda right about the debates on the radio. It was very unscientific (and stupid I might add) but i listened to the debate on the radio while the audio on the TV was mute. Bush didn't come off AS bad I'd have to say (because I didn't have to look at his stupid face) and you could here Kerry like banging on his podium and what I think had to actually be his writing. Bush still sounded stupid but he didn't look stupid so thats a plus.
As of yesterday there seemed to be more votes that they consider to be "strong Kerry" than with "strong Bush,"but that's shifted today.
I didn't check electoral-vote.com the day that you posted this (10/20) but every day I've checked shows that Kerry doesn't win any states convincingly. I know that they are small states, but Bush is winning 7 states by more than 25 points (amazingly Texas is not among them--winning by 23) and 9 more by more than 15 points. Kerry is winning only 1 "state" by more than 25 (DC by 67) and only 4 more by more than 15 points (Massachusetts only shows a 14 point lead). Now I know that Kerry's leads will pick up in NY, California, and Massachusetts, but I think that Bush could be winning the popular vote this time around even if Kerry wins the election. Now I think that Kerry will win because I don't believe at all that independents are leaning more towards Bush and I think these independents will go to the polls and vote for Kerry.
Keep an open eye for the Redskins game vs. the Packers! If they win or tie, 4 more years of Dubya. If they lose, it's Kerry.
Ironic that the Packers would "determine his fate" considering he had slipped and called Lambeau Field "Lambert Field" in a speech in Wisconsin. I actually will determine my late pick based on this game that's just how close the election seems. Wisconsin even seems like the state that Kerry would get as insurance in order to win, despite the above snafoo (sp?).
If the Redskins win expect me to be really down.

Bush is going to win with very questionable voting practices that will be unverifiable due to the electronice voting machines. There will be mass rioting in the cities that will not be quenched because the National Guard is currently over in Iraq. Bush will raise the terror warning to red, giving martial law powers to the government and use the rioting as an excuse to ramrod even more repressive laws through Congress.
I don't know if this will happen, but I've been having this recurring nightmare for months.

The Bushisms work without being able to see him.
I don't know how anyone could think Bush won unless you just happen to agree with him already. In that case you aren't fairly judging the debate. Agree with him or not, Kerry won all three debates.

I really hope there is rioting after Bush is elected. I really hope that we can lock up those obnoxious fuckers who cannot accept how the system works.
Think about it this way - how is there going to be rioting? The only place where there is going to be rioting is in Washington.
For a riot to happen, you need a central location to air your agression (Fenway Park, Seattle Starbucks, South Central LA, etc) - what are pissed off extreme leftists gonna do in California and NY, who are already states for Kerry?
Makes no sense. Rioting = not gonna happen.

If you look here (http://www.electoral-vote.com/info/polls-2000.html), Bush was actually favored in all but two polls right before election day 2000 (by as much as 7). And all but those two were wrong, of course, since Gore won the popular vote.
I don't see polls as a definitive gauge on how the voting will end up if the numbers are close. If a candidate has a 15 point lead, though, I'm willing to bet they'll win it.

It is going to be Bush. You Bush haters/democrats are going to feel foolish. We're in NY, which has voted democratic for president forever (although we've had 10 years of republican majors and a republican governor in office....ironic huh)
Bush will win. Enough of this bullshit about Bush being anti american. The left is playing this off like Communism in the 50s.
Democrats are going to help poor people at the EXPENSE of the middle class. Don't let anyone else tell you wrong. The top 10% of the richest people in the world pay 70% of the total taxes.

well, a good way to predict who's going to win is by seeing how the Redskins do the SUnday before the election. I read somewhere that when they win on the Sunday before Election day, the encumbant condidate wins.
BTW, Fuck all the candidates.....I'm voting for "Diamond" Joe Quimby

Other Predictions... (http://www.newcitychicago.com/chicago/3830.html)
They mention the Redskins thing as well as the Nickelodeon thing. They also mention that USA Today has said that it's usually the taller candidate who wins - which would mean Kerry.
However, in a Bobblehead promotion and a costume count, Bush won.

Apparantly the Labor Department (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&ncid=536&e=6&u=/ap/20041029/ap_on_el_pr/bush_labor_memo) is predicting that Bush will win as well.
Labor Department staff, analyzing statistics from private economists, report in an internal memo that President Bush is likely to do "much better" in Tuesday's election than the polls are predicting.
The Labor Department report, obtained by The Associated Press, includes an analysis of economic models that suggest Bush will beat Democrat John Kerry. Titled "In Focus: Predicting the Election Outcome," the memo says, "Nearly every single model has him winning."
"Some show the margin of victory being smaller than the models' inherent margin of error, while others report the lead as substantial. And this is without the consideration of a third-party candidate."
Bush's win of the popular vote could be 57.5 percent, 55.7 percent or 51.2 percent, said the paper, dated Oct. 22 and prepared by the department's Employment and Training Administration staff for the assistant labor secretary.

Landslide?
Where have all THOSE supporters been hiding?
There is a theory that the "cell-phone voters" haven't been factored in; these are people who screen their calls and do not take the polls, etc., and are virtually impossible to get a beat on. They lean to the left, but no one really knows about this election.
Some of the people I've talked with who are involved with polling say they would not be surprised by just about anything. This includes, a repeat of 2000 (one candidate gets popular/another gets electoral), or even an electoral landslide. They also wouldn't be surprised if it breaks 4 - 5% on either side,
Another interesting thing one of them told me - if George Bush was running against "Not George Bush," he would absolutely lose. The GOP has been very effective in making this election about John Kerry, which is unbelievablly ballsy, considering what a shitty job the current administration has done.
Maybe that's what we need to do - have two elections: the first is an across the board "Should this President be re-elected?" campaign. If he wins; he gets 4 more years. If he loses, then he is a lame duck, as the different parties come up with alternatives.
One problem it will fix is diverting the responsibilities of being President from the President. It really pisses me off to see the Commander in Chief (regardless of the party) spending a year of his job trying to get rehired - using all of the respourses he can legally filter from the public.
Yeah - would create problems, and it won't happen, so I'll just end this here.

Apparantly the Labor Department is predicting that Bush will win as well.
They're just HOPING that, otherwise it's just ANOTHER job lost in the last four years.
And I don't know who brought it up here, but I really like the idea of presidents only being able to serve one 5 or 6 year term, and that's it, so they don't waste a whole year stumping for themselves while still in office.

I don't think the idea of having foreign "observers" helping oversee this election is that odd.
I mean, there's all this issue of how close and controversial various states are going to be...could it hurt to have some extra eyes to make sure nothing fishy goes down?
Plus, it's obvious that who our leader is effects the entire world, so foreign interest to make sure that process isn't disrupted can be understood.
And besides, can anyone give a reason as to WHY we shouldn't allow observers that ISN'T insanely hypocritical when you consider we've done the exacts same thing in at least dozens of other countries?

I've been hearing talk now of how there is no way for Bush to win.
Other people I know are now starting to talk of Republican death camps and how the voting process is actually a front for Kerry and his people to identify political enemies to help them move us all into the camps quicker.
Talk now is that we will be forced to have numbered tatoos down our arms and will be made to wear elephant patches on our sleeves to identify us to the rest of the public.
It's getting scary. I wish I had some Xanax or something to calm me down. Waking up Wednesday will be one of the most frightening mornings of my life.
I don't want to hear about the assinations, political take overs, hear about how the congress has been disbanded and replaced with a monachary that Kerry rules. I just want everyone to get along.
Actually, that might have all been a bad dream, but still, I just want happiness and stuff.

You don't have to keep WABC on your radio AND Fox News on 24/7. Yet.
It would probably be a good idea to pass on the Kool-Aid. And make some new friends. :)
If all the newly registered people (& casual voters) get out to vote, Kerry wins by 2-3% in popular vote and comfortably in Electoral College. If not, Bush in another squeaker.
I'm leaving tonight to help the Democrats stuff the ballot boxes in Pennsylvania. My last entreaty to you all is this:
If you're voting or leaning Kerry, just do it.
If you're thinking of voting for Bush - Hey, masturbation is fun! And Tuesday would be an excellent time to go for the World Record!
