Schilling just referred to Bob Stanley and Calvin Shiraldi as "great Red Sox".
Doesn't change the fact that Schilling rocks.
Nice job BoSox. Way to show up Cards.
As usual, both LCS's were better than the WS.

In celebration of the victory I promise to stop jumping in front of his car.

No they won't... Historically, the Sox still have nothing on the Yankees.
Plus, when the Yankees win the World Series next year, all will be rectified.

While I'll have to admit that I had hoped I would die before the Sox ever won a world series, I now must concede as a Yankees fan and offer my congradulations to Boston. I will always hate the Red Sox it's in my blood, but they deserved to win this year it's as simple as that. Unfortunately for me, my favorite sports chants of 1940 (for the N.Y. Rangers) and 1918 are now both dead. It's a sad day for me, but at least now the season is over and I can start focusing on next April.

I've paid my dues
Time after time
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand
Kicked in my face
But I've come through
And we mean to go on and on and on and on
We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting
Till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the World
I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune
And everything that goes with it
I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before
The whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose
And we mean to go on and on and on and on
We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting
Till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers

I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town
Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, fuggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked (I like to save time for
my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)
Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)
Well, I love that dirty water (I love it, baby)
I love that dirty water (I love Baw-stun)
I love that dirty water (Have you heard about the Strangler?)
I love that dirty water (I'm the man, I'm the man)
I love that dirty water (Owww!)
I love that dirty water (Come on, come on)

for boston, for boston we sing our proud refrain
for boston, for boston, 'tis wisdom's earthly fame
for here all are one and our hearts are true
and the towers on the heights reach the heavens' own blue
for boston, for boston 'til the echoes ring again!
for boston, for boston thy glory is our own
for boston, for boston 'tis here that truth is known
and ever with a right shall our heirs be found
'til time shall be no more and thy work is crowned
for boston, for boston thy glory is our own!

WOW.
I'm still stunned --- and hungover. I never thought I'd see this day.
THE CURSE HAS BEEN 86-ed!!!!
Schilling, Papi, Manny, and Pedro have entered the Boston Pantheon that includes Bobby Orr, Bill Russell, Larry Bird and Adam Vinatieri. Terry Francona and Theo Epstein get free drinks for life.
But the one guy I think I'm most happy for is Tim Wakefield. He was on the '92 Pirates that got upset by the Braves in the NLCS. He came to Boston in 1995 and endured some lean years. He should have been the ALCS MVP last year but gives up the homer to Boone. Now he's a champion. Nobody on the team deserved it more.
Now I know what the Yankees fans know so well -- it really does feel good to see your team win a World Series.

Do I have to bring this up again? The Yankees are suffering from the curse of Mike Mussina. They haven't won a World Series since they stole Mussina from the Orioles. Granted they got him through free agency, and pompous asspipe Peter Angelos wouldn't offer up the cash, despite overpaying Albert Belle, but don't let the facts get in the way of a good legend.
Oooooh! I like that! on SO MANY different levels!
Congrats Sox fans.

They might love them some Papi and Manny right now, but don't ask those old Celtic greats about playing in Boston. Robert Parrish used to have bricks thrown at him. They hate the schwoogies up there. lways have, always will.
PS 1918 isn't a shitty moniker. It's been a great chant, but its over.

After Ramirez had those two back-to-back errors in the Series, I'll bet all of Boston sounds like a 1920's Klan march.

Has the death toll gone up in Boston, from all the senior citizens dropping dead now that the Sox have finally won?
In the newest issue of Maxim on the last page in that quiz, #7 stated who does God hate more the Sox or the Cubs? I think you can say offically now it's the Cubs.

Good stuff Crippler. I've been reading the Sports Guy's columns for a couple of years now. We're both Boston fans but he always seems to write exactly what I think -- it's scary at times.
Most important, it's always interesting to see how he will work in a Shawshank Redmption or William Zabka subreference in each column!

I have always held this quote near and dear even though I can't really apply it to anything in my distant sports fandom's memory.
Remember this Red Sox fan's as this team will walk on water forever.
"Win together today and we walk together forever."
- Fred Shero (Head Coach Philadelphia Flyers, 1974)
Also,
I found it interesting (and you may have heard this already) that Boston won each of it's major four sports titles from St. Louis teams:
1957 Boston Celtics - St. Louis Hawks
1970 Boston Bruins - St. Louis Blues
2001 New England Patriots - St. Louis Rams
2004 Boston Red Sox - St. Louis Cardinals
And Mojo...
I see the hatred and the loathing towards not only the Red Sox but the city of Boston. I know that there is some kind of racist history and I am a little ignorant on this subject but could you possibly enlighten me (or us) on your situation and if anyone else wants to chip in, go ahead. I am always up for being educated.

I find it amazing that basically the entire baseball world and humanity in general recognizes Boston and their fans as primitive animals yet when confronted Bostonians act like they've been persecuted.
Oh yeah and just to bust apart those stereotypes somebody throws a ball at Pedro during the beginning of the parade and hits him smack in the middle of the forehead. The one guy who carried that team when it was a steaming pile of hot garbage is greeted in fine fashion after finally winning the city a championship. Not only this but the official slogan of this great march? "We kept the faith, now let's keep the peace" But hey Boston fans are some of the classiest people around. /vomit

Please. You can't say all Red Sox fans suck just because of this guy and a subset of asshole fans. Besides, the bad fans of the Red Sox are no worse than the bad Yankee fans.

I'm sorry but I have to say that you're wrong, based on what I have experienced first hand. I've been to Yankee Sox games in both Fenway and in Yankee stadium on many many occasions. The vibe is completely different, I never wanted to get involved in a conflict at Fenway Park so I never wore any Yankee apparrell, I have always felt that was a dumb move. But on several occasions I have seen guys get beer thrown in their faces, and on one specific visit i saw an 18 or 19 yr old kid with a Yankee hat on get heckled the entire game. He was about 5 rows in front of me and it was blatantly obvious that it was a serious problem. Eventually four or five grown men jumped on this kid and started pummeling him while one of them started to, and i say this with total disgust, dance on top of him pouring his drink. One thing I will say is that security got there very quickly, by the time I tried to make my way down there the fucking barbarians were getting escorted out. That still, however, doesn't change the fact that people actually cheered when this kid started to get hit. The only thing that sparked all of this was the fact that when he got tired of being picked on he turned around and said something along the lines of "Can't you just fucking watch the game".
That being said, I've been to even more Yankee - Red Sox games in Yankee stadium and have never in my life seen anything resembling an altercation like the ones at Fenway. Obviously there have been a couple of boneheads who have had one too many beers laugh at you if you were wearing Rod Sox attire. Usually though it's just plenty of Yankee and Red Sox fans joking with one another in Yankee Stadium. I mean you can say what you want, but every single time I've gone into Fenway there is usually an angry attitude in the air.
The proof is right in this last World Series. If you're a Yankee fan you know there is an IMMENSE amount of Red Sox fans in Yankee stadium. Just a tremendous amount. Yankee fans are used to that so it isn't a huge issue. In St. Louis though it's drastically different. You don't get opposing fans going to Busch Stadium, it just doesn't happen. And because of that there was a huge amount of physical conflicts during this year's World Series in St. Louis. I'm sorry but I just can not see this as coincidence. I understand that the entire Red Sox culture has been molded into this kind of diehard and live and die by your team image, but the stuff I have seen from Red Sox fans borders on the mentally retarded.

What's your point? That's only because the Yankees didn't win the World Series. And if the Yankees had won, the highest payroll of a WS champion would have been about $70 million dollars higher. Nobody is foolish enough to suggest that the Red Sox do not have a huge payroll, but the Yankees are way out of the league from evryone else when it comes to payroll, and they're likely to break the $200 million barrier next season.

If they are going to mock anybody, how about A-Rod? He was the one who got into a fight with Varitek and did the cheap slapping at the ball thing in Game 6. No, let's mock the classiest guy on the other team. I think that's a fucking joke. Bad enough to still be obsessed with the Yanks like that, but then you pick on the guy least likely to do anything to show up other players. I think it's bush league shit.

I have been to three Yankees/Sox games at the stadium. I have seen fans verbaly abuse and physicaly assault people wearing Sox stuff. Including one time when a threw his beer on a girl. I also saw one guy get punched in the back of the head while he was taking a piss. Don't say it doesn't happen at tyhe stadium. It does.

I'm sorry but I have to say that you're wrong, based on what I have experienced first hand.
And based on my first hand experience, you're wrong. I'm an Orioles fan and have been to many, many Orioles-Yankees games and Orioles-Red Sox games, and at those games, the bad Yankees fans have acted far worse than the Red Sox fan. I've seen Yankee fans throw beer at Orioles fans. I've talked to security, and they have by far more fights during the Yankees games than any other games. During the 1996 playoffs, a friend of mine was at a game at Yankee stadium, and saw a guy run up behind an Orioles fan, grab his hat, and throw it off the upper deck. I've seen a lot of dickhead Yankee fans, but unlike you, I don't paint all Yankee fans with that brush, and I don't say that based on my experiences that Yankee fans are worse than Red Sox fans.
Also, you're a Yankee fan. You're biased. If you say Red Sox fans are worse than Yankee fans, pardon me if I don't take that as an objective view. I've seen bad fans for both teams, and I'll say it again. Bad Red Sox fans are no worse than bad Yankee fans.
Oh, and in general, dickhead fans for any team suck.

Over the course of my entire span of being Yankee fan I've probably been to roughly 18 Yankee Red Sox games, and yeah I know it absolutely happens in Yankee stadium. But it isn't even close to comparable with Fenway, they aren't in the same league. I do, however, believe that things at Yankee stadium have gotten much better the last few years because I have seen many more Boston fans in the stadium. But the amount of fights and altercations and drunken bullshit that I have seen in Yankee stadium does not begin to compare to the massive amount of events I have witnessed in Fenway park. I can remember just last year during the ALCS a writer for what I believe was ESPN the magazine doing an article about him wearing all Yankee apparrel to Fenway and all Red Sox apparel to Yankee stadium and this guy said himself that the two experiences were drastically different. In Fenway he was surrounded by a bunch of guys will trying to buy a hotdog, while in Yankee stadium he stated that the worst that happened was him mouthing off with some of the fans. It's a totally different atmosphere bro, Fenway park is just an incredibly angry and bitter place during Yankee games, there's no getting around that fact.

Maybe, but you might be angry too if Red Sox fans were constantly shoving, 1918, Buckner, Babe, Bucky and Boone down your throats (if the situations were reversed obviously). I'm not cutting Red Sox fans any slack, I stand by my belief that the Yankee fan dickhead culture is as much alive and well as it is in Boston.

Are you kidding me? By your logic Wrigley and Minute Maid Park must be battlegrounds, which they are not. They do not compare to either Yankee stadium or Fenway. And there are just as many of the obligatory "Yankees suck" chants at Fenway. I don't give a shit that they're made at the history of their team, that does not give them the write to act like savages. And let me also state I know not all Red Sox fans are bad people. I totally agree, I'm simply saying that I have seen it much more in the relatively large sample size I have experienced at Fenway.

Nice. Trash the the classiest guy on the Yanks, the guy who plays the game right and never shows anyone up. Really fucking nice.
Did anyone see Jeter's quote after losing the ALCS? He said basically that he had no interest in the World Series and that he wouldn't be watching it. Sure a series is less interesting to you if your team isn't in it, but I thought it just came off as petty and sour grapes.

Don't twist my words. My point is that for every dick Red Sox fan, there's a dick Yankee fan gleefully shoving 1918 down their throats. It doesn't matter. You think Red Sox fans are worse. I think you're biased and are discounting some of the activity of your own team's fans. We'll have to agree to disagree.
