Hi guys,
Got a quick question. I'm looking to expand my collection of 70's era instrumental jazz funk with organ/synth/piano as a central instrument.
I have Herbie Hancock's "Thrust" and "Headhunters", with "Thrust" being a good example of the genre I'm interested in. I particularly love Fender Rhodes Piano and Hammond organs. Another good example is Joe Farrell who made a great record "Penny Arcade". Too bad it was on the label CDI and was never mastered to CD. I actually bought the vinyl some time back and have yet to find a friend with a record player for me to digitize.
I have looked into Weather Report and despite how great Jaco was, they just are lame IMO. They are too fusion-y .
I have several modern acts like Medeski Martin and Wood (their best records being Shackman and Friday Afternoon in the Universe), Soulive, Robert Walters, Galatica (they suck). But I like the old stuff best.
Anyone have some info on the instrumental jazz funk?
thanks!
