Stern Takes On Powell...

Talk radio giant Howard Stern confronted his longtime FCC nemesis Michael Powell on Ronn Owens' KGO morning show on Tuesday morning.

FCC Chairman Powell's interview on the San Francisco-based show (9-10am PDT) had been promoted in the media beforehand prompting Stern to unexpectedly call in for a tense 15 minute conversation.

hell yea reef. they really tool on him good. But if you listen to the stern show, he actually says a lot of the things they make fun of him about. its not like the brokaw impression where its just the voice and they do a bit. Stern actually says some of these whacky things.

I've discovered that too while listening. You would think they'd have filler advertising for the station and ID's etc.

What a great call. I admire Howard for being respectful. I don't completely agree with everything he said, though I think he made some compelling arguments. I do defend his right to free speech, though I disagree with his notion that it's a government conspiracy against him. Also I agree with him that there is definitely a double standard between him getting fined and Oprah Winfrey not.

I don't think Stern came off well at all. His conspiracy theories are ridiculous. And he actually COMPLAINS that Viacom isn't being allowed to gobble up more stations? That's not a very sympathetic argument, and that's where he lost me, right off the bat. He spent way too much time attacking Powell. That's irrelevant, and Powell made an excellent point about how this isn't a partisan issue. Michael Copps is another FCC Comissioner, and a Democrat, and he's always talking about revoking licenses.

I went into this hoping Stern would lay into Powell, but he didn't.

Just listened to it. I thought he asked Powell a few tough questions. The host could not be a bigger dick though. He wanted this call to end ASAP.

I think Powell was put on the spot and I do agree he lied.
And you know they will not hand down a fine against Oprah until AFTER he leaves for Sirius radio.
And that is IF they fine her...which they will not most likely.

Yeah I don't get that at all. He had a news story developing right in front of him and all he's concerned about is going to commercials. I would think that he'd let those two just go at it and then just take a long break after.

He did sound whiney, but you have to give him credit for having a colossal set of balls. He just told the guy that can get all Infinity's licenses pulled that he didn't earn his job. Then he challenged him to fine Oprah and to let the courts decide whether he is indecent. Powell held his own though, and kept a cool head. You can see that Howards personal attacks over the last few months have gotten back to him.
