Can anyone recommend a good pay site for mp3s for downloading and using on my iPod?

I used iTunes to make a purchase however it would not allow me to put the song on my iPod (unless I did something wrong). I've never purchased downloadable music before so forgive me if this sounds stupid.

Is there another service that's good and legal?

itunes is the only music downloading service you can use with the iPod.

I downloaded the song but it came in as a m4p and itunes will not let me add it to the ipod no matter what I do.

Is the itunes set up on the PC/Mac you have the iPod connected to? It should be automatic

It's for PC, and yeah my ipod is connected. It downloaded and it appears in the Purchased Music folder, but I cannot drag it or move it into the iPod.

I did some searching on Google prior to this thread and saw that other people have had this problem as well. If there's a way to get it to work I'd love it.

did you try making a new playlist and adding those songs to it? The iPod should grab all playlists.

the file may have been named incorrectly with the .m4p extension which the ipod does not recogonise as a music format, rename the file to .mp3 on your pc and then import to ipod

.m4p is a valid extention (the music you buy is "protected" music you rip in the "acc" format will be .m4a)

Does the song play from iTunes? Is the iPod set for "Automatic sync"?

It's strange, it plays from iTunes and I can drag it into the Library, and any Playlists I create in iTunes, however it will not allow me to put the playlist on the Ipod and I cannot drag the song from the library into the Ipod.

I'm not sure on the automatic sync part, but I'll check the settings later tonight when I get home.

I updated my iTunes to 4.7 yesterday and it looks like this is now slightly different for PC users, but you should have your iPod settings look like this:

http://members.cox.net/nicksporsche/skwiPod-one.jpg

You can get to it while the iPod is connected by clicking the iPod button on the bottom right:

http://members.cox.net/nicksporsche/skwiPod-two.jpg

If it's in your iTunes library and a valid file that iPods recognize (Apple's "acc" files are .m4p and .m4a so they are valid) it should be transferred. Maybe you need to reformat the iPod or reinstall iTunes. There isn't much to the program to change.

Well I'm pretty sure my setting is the same exact way yours is. I'll see if by clicking the ipod button if it moves the song into it. Thanks.

I bypass all the security stuff by having dedicated recording software on the computer. Sony bought Sound Forge and for $80 it will record any audio that comes out of your computer and then encode it in any of over a dozen formats, and since all it knows is its sound there no licensing crap attached to the music file.

Theres freeware/shareware that does the same i'm sure; i just use the full version for all the lovely audio from me you hear on R+F.

MT is right. It's a foolproof way to grab (and convert) ANY audio.
The only drawback is: initially, you have to grab the audio in Real Time. Meaning... if you want to save a song that runs 4 mins and 20 secs, it's going to take you 4:20 to rip it.
Once you've got it re-recorded, THEN you can convert it to a WMV, MP3, ACC, or whatever. That part of the process only takes a few secs. As will finally uploading it to your portable device or a CD-R.

Recording and encoding the music is not an issue for me at all. I am having more of a problem with music which I may not own but would like to download legally to put into the iPod.

As far as taking music from cd's, lp's, etc and ripping them to either .wav or mp3, or whatever other format I have that part covered.
